- It's been raining so much i thought i'd hid from the rain today and carve a chess set so we could play. It took more work then i thought to carve all the pieces by hand in just one day but i finished it in just a one day build and we managed to play a game before bed. I had joked about carving a chess set around day 2 the first time we were forced to hid form the rain but all the jumping around took up enough of our time i never got to it till today when the wet conditions and almost freezing temps keep us close to the fire. The board i carved the day before but from the time i woke up till we played our first game of chess i managed to carve all 32 peaces and drill the board so the chess peace i carved could be pegged to the board.

How many can really remember all the shapes of the chess pieces? Most would just have an idea not alone carving them with just a small little knife. Lol. Good job finding thing to do under the constant wet and cold weather. I enjoy the video as usual 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏

Watching every episode, was actually something pretty satisfying about seeing Fowler carve the whole chess set. The music and the editing help bring it all together as well. Talented guy. I would not of had the patience to make all those pieces. Oh and it seems them loafer slipper things Fowler wears hold up way better than them boots lol....Praying for sunshine. God bless!

I’m happy that he doesn’t focus too much on it in his videos, despite it obviously being important to him.
It is good to see other Christians that are not afraid to sho who the are. And openly talk about it.

This is my favorite TH-cam series, "I'm watching every one."
Sup doods! So I got 2 cool ways to dry your footwear. One way is to pull some laces down and put them by your knees in your sleeping bag and your body heat will dry them mostly. The other way is to use hot rocks inside them, and set them next to your fire, and turn them once. Works good!!

For the black chest pieces should have just took some coals and crouched then in to some water and stirred it up really good and it would have made almost like a homemade tattoo ink that would stain the wood really nice

I hear you saying need a bath, too cold though, why not bring a kiddy pool or even a horse trough that you pull like a wagon. Then, if you decide on a horse trough, fill with rain water, heat with coals underneath cover and seal with bungee cord tarp. Then take a bath once a week. You can put big wheels on it, fill with gear pull to your camp sites. You may need to park closer though, but you can buy a 44 gallon trough at Home Depot for $149, build a cover to keep gear dry. The cheaper version is a kiddy pool dug out, embedded in the ground. Get two big stew pots scoop water out, heat, pour in, seal off from cold with tarp and have second guy heating water. A nice toasty clean bath, you can even wash your clothes in it then set in a net bag in running stream. Next day dry over lines and fire. Use plastic tarps to hold heat in, keep wind out, you could even run 1.5" PVC pipe near the fire, with 90 degree and funnel just pour heated water in, then goes over to the pool.

In chucks small town, there was a competition where men from miles away would join together to see who could throw the largest item the farthest. The reward was 1000 dollars!!! And Chuck really wanted the thousand dollars..
Since those boots sucked, you should try the Nike SFB 2.0 Goretex boots. I've worn them almost everyday for a year. They're very comfortable and I can walk through puddles and ankle deep creeks without my feet ever getting wet.
If you've ever wondered why it took humanity 300000 years to discover technology past that of stones, this is why. People basically spent their whole day getting sleeping, getting food, having fun, and repeating. They had no down time to discover things because every day that passed without fresh food meant possible starvation.

Tip from the hobo survivalist:
Use a small rock as a pivot point when collecting rainwater from your tarp. Use it to puddle and then roll the rock itself to the edge to get a steady pour.
This is hard to do in the dark. But u can feel it out.
Rock+small toggle along side one another= perfection.

I'm watching every episode again. To be honest I skipped the chess board making the first time around because I thought it would be boring. This time I watched it. Impressed with your carving skills.
In your case, you should water proof the boots with SNO-SEAL. The way I do it: Set the Owen to 100, keep the boot in for 10 min. Take one out and apply the SNO-SEAL. Do to the other one too. Then use hair dryer on HOT and melt the rest in the boot. I do this two times to one pair boot, one after the other. And this will protect to the life of your boot.
So cool that you carved all those little pieces and made a chess board out in the bush. I have been watching the whole series, of both you and Gregs channel. Now i just catched up on your lives and q&a’s and found out about your generous giveaway. Waiting to see your last 2 days now, so exciting!
As far as shoes go goretex waterproofing is the best I know of...Merrill brand does sell goretex ml models.... keen shoes with keen dry waterproofing are also great.... but all said and done even goretex will leak if saturated over time.... so maybe adding in ankle gators could help.... fyi im not a Merrill fan... try keen next time couldn't be any worse lol....

Im watching every episode on both your channels! Super cool chess set! An idea to improve the board would be to use super glue or something like it on the pegs and to line the holes, to prevent continued use from wearing the holes and pegs out and making them too loose. You could also eventually cover the whole set in some kind of lacquer to set it all and make it more durable and waterproof.
