    THANK YOU!!! I'm so happy to see a true blade smith who can actually ''forge'' a blade. Really tired of seeing a smith(?) trace and cut a pattern then attempt to call it a forged piece. I try not to watch those channels. What a breath of fresh air and a pleasure to watch you work.

    Dear Mr. unknown bladesmith!
    I watched your video ''Knifemaking - Forging a Giant Bowie Knife''. Your giant Bowie knife is magnificent and you own really rare and amazing mastership. Your product responds in maximally high degree to my own personal standard concerning these knives which are true pride for the brave american nation.
    In my opinion on the world are existing only two best knife forms - the american Bowie and the nepalese kukri (or khukuri). I have in mind another more model. My word is about Bushman knife - famous product of COLD STEEL. But in any cases I accept these knife species only as working tools. I consider they have to be turned into weapons only in extreme moments, only in cases of inevitable necessity and serious danger.
    There has another subject. Bushman knives are made in factory conditions. In on such big factory exist special conditions, mighty producing technical powers (machines and various special devices). The producing process is quite easy. It is not so interesting. But true pride is for one man to create such thing with own hands in modest home conditions.
    I entreat you to accept my congratulations!!!

    A little tip from a fellow knife maker. If you use a larger bit to widen your pin hole just on the and leave some excess brass you can heat the pin up with a slick sanding belt and peen it over much easier. The bit of excess will fill the surface gap and make it flush without any filing.

    • @ebel-janschepers3709
      @ebel-janschepers3709 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sir first of all i would like to thank you for a really enjoyable forge, and what a lovely honest blade it is, most of them turn out to be just small if you will, but a giant bowie is the way forward, big is always better as you can put that bit more distance between you and the foilage, brush, etc, ive not yet read the comments but sir you worked that blade from start to finish a really outstanding video, the best part for me is when you started over, it shows you dont stand for nothing but your best, i dindnt see the overall length of your bowie sir but i will be asking for a quote on 1 of these sir, again thanks for a great outstanding video. 👍👏

    Of all the Bowie knives I've seen made on here this is the closest to the original bowie knife I've seen, every other Bowie knife I've seen they always put the texas clip on, this has the french clip which is what the original bowie had, It also has the spanish infantry mans guard, so did the original bowie. Nice to see someone FINALLY be accurate to history for a change. It may be bigger but the design is spot on.

    I know this video is 2 years old, but I'm going to mention this anyway. About 10 or 15 feet of heavy chain wrapped around the anvil will stop that pinging noise, that will really hurt your ears after awhile. I'll be subscribing now to see what other great knives he's made. And maybe swords too 🤞

    The more orange-colored sparks when working the knife say that it was probably not a particularly good steel, rather normal structural steel. If necessary, you can use it for a large, chunky knife, but at least a carbon steel would be better - there are also very inexpensive, good varieties, but not as inexpensive as structural steel. Other then that you did a awesome job man - congrats :) You are very talented!

All the details like peening the pin, the collar under the guard etc really make it shine in a world of stock removal blades and acrylic handles (not that they don't look good, but this hobbit's great sword you made is more my style). I would like to know how it's tempered, another dude on YT kept his tempering process a secret and I've been curious how big bowies are differentally tempered ever since.... and did you put the fist blade edge down to preserve the clay on the back? It's hard to get a hamon on a flat or hollow grind blade because the edge is so thin. A convex grind is a easier because there's more meat leading up to the edge but the type of steel also had some to do with it.
