Listened to this when I was 35 years old. Now I'm nearly 70 years old . Still sounds good!!!! Greg and Ms. Echo...
yes their songs never get older... i love their songs so much....
And me Greg xx
All I can say is... You have a great taste in music sir!
This performance was 1985 and the year I was born. After the age of 20 that was when I discovered this amazing band and feel in love with their music. That’s when I realized I was really born in this era of beautiful music bcos for the longest time all of my favorite songs and bands are actually from the 80’s!
Good
True story: I was in the crowd here at age 17, and this song was our senior prom theme only a few months earlier. I was pretty sick of this song by this time, but looking back 35 years later today, it was a pretty damn cool piece of my life.
Lucky you!
Sounds super rad to me man🤘
I wasnt even born yet but I'd gladly give an arm to be there
@Tom Raski you sir are one of the luckiest people on the face of the planet being a part of the greatest concert festivals of all time. I was unfortunately was born in the 90's but my favorite era of music is definitely the 80's! If I get in a time machine I would go back in time to this to be a part of history.
Joshua Serrano, it’s funny but we didn’t realize how lucky were at the time. When you’re only a dumb teenager, you think it’s not that big of a deal. So glad I was there now
If I could ever travel back in time and had only one trip, I would definitely go at Live Aid.
Me too
Love this song and reo
I was there, came by bus, 13 hour ride from Toronto with my brother....GREATEST CONCERT EVER....
13 hours...to get to Philly from Toronto??
Sorte a sua .
@@mtlnascarfan around 8 by car. I guess a bus could be longer depending on stops.
hermoso recital
This band is very underrated in my eyes. In my mind they were one of the better bands of the 80s . Lots of good songs and memories.
I agree with you for the first part of their existence...once Kevin and Gary had their spat and Kevin won the music was never the same....Gary wanted the hard guitar driving stuff and Kevin wanted to go in the direction he is singing in this song...I admit I lost interest once they switched sounds...
What?! They were HUGE. Nobody of any consequence underrated them.
@@85308arizonaboy I feel the opposite way, so perhaps it's good that the band had two incarnations :)
Very very underrated
They weren't underrated by any means, one of the biggest selling groups of the 80's decade. You may mean underrated today, which I understand
Live Aid the greatest concert of all time!
Because of queen
Only the British side did the event greatest, American were horrendous, and the line-up quite sub-standard.
@@cjmq1970 well, exept the madonna performance!
True dat
@@kikit7262 no. Because they all sung to raise fund to feed starving kids on Africa. Don't let yourself fooled by the movie.
I was born in 1959 so I was a teenager during the 1970's, what a fantastic time to be alive in America with the greatest music in the world!
1956 here, yes indeed, we grew up in the best of times!
Agreed!!! I was born '58 and heard those wonderful music attentively , 70's, 80's, 90's music were incomparable and at my young age I started to sing many greatest hits trending in that era...thanks & pray...
I’m 14 and everybody says I’m born in the wrong era for liking this music. Sometimes I wish I was, this music is so much better than the stuff today.
The absolute best
@@lukepreuss4585 i absolutely agree! 16 this year and i will never regret finding this music.
No fancy lighting, no cool special effects....just pure music! I LOVE IT!!
No phones either, just crowd enjoying the performance
Just REO Speedwagon
The 70's and 80's were blessed with excellent musicians. After all these years their music is still in our lives.
Exactly .
Well said.. true human emotions will always be relatable
That's big true,I am 55+,but can;t listenig this new age music,Youg people don't know what good music is,everithing is coopying now from old music
@@michalizo4241 exactly like im one of these younger kids and im so thankful i was brought up on music like this. Because music nowadays, theres no fun, its all the same, boring, no talent. Alls you need is to be a rich kid who can hire a composer who will write them music. And then with their shitty voice and the addition of autotune, theyre successfull. 😞😞
So true
Seeing this beautiful music in Quarantine Times 2020
Just the right music..
Miss it was like back then instead of the world in caos
Presente!
Cool. Me too.
Hmm
This was “Our” Woodstock. Gen X. However we weren’t protesting anything. Just expressing life and embracing it.
God's hand was on Live Aid. The Concert was for Charity. To FEED Starving Children.
I was born in 1959 in a time of great music, television, movies, nostalgic simpler times. ( 60s - 90s )

No auto tune pure masterpiece.
Well,no auto tune anyway
This was a Amazing Concert... What happened to music and talent? I want to throw eggs at the radio now days,

Eggs, in flight, at Radio's front door.
Eggs, some rotten, Easter Bunny, lay some more....
If you have to, lay them, on the floor, by Radio's front door, for Easter.

And I want to throw shit!!!! T___T
Lol

This is just about the perfect example of a power ballad, beautifully composed and sung.
You know, this song has become such a staple and classic, most people have heard it. However, I’m not sure people really listen to the lyrics closely. “You’re a candle in the window on a cold dark winters night” is an absolutely BRILLIANT line.
Poesía
I'm listening to this performance at Live Aid of this song , "back to back". It doesn't get boring . It's GREAT ! It's classic !
Putting candles in the window is a tradition that goes back hundreds of years. This is how travellers knew where the next house or rest stop was, while travelling at night. Creedence Clearwater Revival also mention the practice in the line "Put a candle in the window" from their 1970 song "Long as I can see the light". Belinda Carlisle put a modern spin on it when she sang "Darling leave a light on for me".
For sure, everytime I hear it it conjures up the candles in the night that I've been lucky to cross paths with....
That guy playing the guitar,I think is one of the greatest guitar players that ever lived.
Dave amato great fkn guitarist also played rhythm for Ted nugent
Thats Gary Richrath, he played for REO before Dave Amato took his place. Hell of a player
@@monzo9999 you are spot on mate my apologies
OMG! Kevin's voice is amazing! Of course the whole band is amazing!
The keyboardist...Mr. Neal Doughty was my neighbor in Belleville,Illinois We lived on Cambridge Drive! He lived #8 Cambridge Drive & i lived @ #23 Cambridge Drive! He taught me how to play the piano! I still play the piano! Thank You...Mr. Doughty..."Your The Best"
so cool
You sure are one lucky guy
Although I’m born in 00s but my soul is extremely 80s 🤘🤘🤘
Hell yeah..!!! 🎸🎸🎸
Same man, I was born in 03 but I was raised in the 80's
That sucks.
Same
2000 here
I'm 64 years old and I still love this song
Me too
Missed this kind of music....
So few vocalists can pull off on stage what they "accomplish" in the studio.
That is my measure of talent.
These comments are truly amazing!!! Kinda like REO. I was only born in the blizzard of '78 but made it. Here we are now. Keep on rock'n!
You were born outside in the blizzard or indoors? Because if it was indoors then the blizzard is irrelevent lol.
probably the best power ballad ever created
I'll be 65 in a few months. Great songs like this serve as mileage markers along my life's journey. They conjure up a place, a person, a feeling. And I am reminded that I can't get back there. But with music come memories, and I am transported back in time in my mind.
Takes me back to when I was young I was 32 Live Aid
Agree
Gosh, that was poetic, thank you
I m 56 ..This was time after I graduated High School and songs were all I lived for on Radio ..Good Time's ❤ 😉🎸
I'm 68, and feel the same, you said it all
No auto tune. Amazing voice
A beautiful song indeed. Love REO and RIP Gary!
REO PROBABLY THE BEST BAND THAT EXPRESED REAL FEELING IN ALL THEY DID.
One of the best bands ever. So many hits that never gets old.
I graduated Law school in Ohio 100th graduating class of Ohio Northern University and this was a great song that inspired me to start my legal career and married life with my girlfriend . Now, how many years later I am still listening to this song ..
The 80’s music is the best!
I have my XM radio set to 80’s on 8 in my car as the 1st preset channel!
Nick P 1st wave is the best
Mine is set on Classic Vinyl
💯💯💯💯
THANK YOU REO!
Three days ago this song helped me tell the incredible guy that I have been casually dating, how I really feel about him! It worked! He feels the same way but didn't know how to say it! We are now “officially” a couple! I feel like a kid again! I'm 58, he's 53 but we both feel like we were made for each other, just took a little longer to figure that out! Love you, Rick!
great story, thanks for sharing
The intro of the song really give me chills everytime I listen to it
Very touching music. Fr. Philippines. Wow! You are so lucky that the pianist is your neighbor. Great he taught you how to play piano. How kind Sir Neal Doughty is. Love you Speedwagon.
I just turned 55 in January, and wonder where all the time went! Having said that, I see this and feel young again! This music will never age, I’m watching in 2020 and wonder why this kind of music is gone. As I read someone wants to throw eggs at the radio, I want to blow it up!
Thanks for reading my comment!
Black people is why. Some whites too. But mainly black people with their rap. And everyone liking it thinking it’s cool and whatever when it’s a bunch of shit! Most definitely not music. Terrible.
Man, I wanna go back now to my teenages. Born in 1970, my whole adolescence was spent during that wonderful decade....
I was 25 yeas old at this concert... Still Love REO and I'm 60
The raw talent of someone like Kevin in the 80's .. He sounds so perfect, I just can't get over it!!!
I want to go back to 1985

I can't. Coz i just born that year.
With out the backround vocals.... All a Genius!!!!!
Listened to this band for 30 years! They still rock!
I can't fight this feeling any longer
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow
What started out as friendship has grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let it show
I tell myself that I can't hold out forever
I said there is no reason for my fear
'Cause I feel so secure when we're together
You give my life direction
You make everything so clear
And even as I wander
I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fightin' for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crashing through your door
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore
My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you
I've been running 'round in circles in my mind
And it always seems that I'm followin' you, girl
'Cause you take me to the places
That alone I'd never find
And even as I wander
I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fightin' for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fightin' for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crashing through your door
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore

April 2020! Miss the 80's. Best music ever! Timeless music!!💕💕
r.i.p in my opinion the best guitarist ever gary Richrath
Yes Gary was very good but not the greatest of all axemen dude. Think of Hendrix.Page,Winter to name three but then again dude opinions are like arseholes we all have one don't we.
Gary was very underrated, he certainly played a les Paul how it was meant to be played, REO were never the same without him.
Thirty Five years later I'm 74... still playin' the bars...and Senior Citizens Clubs and these guys are still out there kicking serious butt in the big venues. God Bless 'em.
Porque hoy en día no hay bandas así de rock que canten tan bonito , no perdamos el romanticismo señores !!!
Alot of 80s rock bands get too much disrespect by so called metalheads. Remember that these guys worked hard for almost 10 years playing small venues before they got huge in 1980
This song won't fade, it's eternal! Love you REO Speedwagon, 03-29-2020 Philippines. Lockdown from covid-19,god bless us all
This tune will never die. Just hearing those opening piano notes, brings me right back to all the experiences I've had in life, and for damn sake I'm only 16 years old. REO Speedwagon, the best band of all time. Love ya KC!

Looking back on this in October 2020, one of the greatest songs I've ever heard. I was born in 2001 but I will always love music from the 80s. That was definitely an Era we'll never forget. Memories and nostalgia always kicks in whenever these songs are played

The days when singers sang live yet sound the same as the studio record..
Same as the studio record ???'?? No this man takes this to a whole new level. Billion times better than the studio record.
