Why did this kind of melodic rock go out of fashion??
It’s still a brilliant song 40 years later!
Today’s pop/rock music is missing something…… melody 🎶! Brings back some great memories from 84/85! ❤
I'm 37 and just today I asked myself the same question. I wish I grew up in the 80's like you. It must have been a unique and amazing time, at least musically anyway.
@@kybone25Yes!! It Was!! 😊😊
it's not out of fashion, the young generation of artist and listeners don't always understand music with soul as opposed to music to just make money and a song with a "hook", no disrespect, but it was different then, I'm 58 so coming of age in the 70's and 80's and a teen and young man music like this made sense
Isn't it the same about movies? No brilliance in the actors, just effects.
Classics never die, they just find new people.
Tem toda razão
But I'm the same old people coming back here
So true

At this moment yes on my home from work good vibes

Hands down one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL songs ever written in human history. Kudos to all the 80s great musicians -- you are IRREPLACEABLE.

The 80’s were pure talent. Anything before 2000 you actually had to have talent. Now you just have to look good and have a following and auto tune will take care of the rest. There isn’t one artist today that makes music like this.

Yes. Every damned day of my life. Was 15 in 1986 and danced to this song repeatedly with my high school sweetheart. Unfortunately, after graduation, we broke up. But this song sure does take me back to those days. Have to say, in a way, I never really, truly got over her, or quit loving the life and times of those years.

It really make you think about life
How many Generation X are listening right now.
I can't fight this feeling any longer
And yet I'm still afraid to let it flow
What started out as friendship has grown stronger
I only wish I had the strength to let it show
I tell myself that I can't hold out forever
I said there is no reason for my fear
'Cause I feel so secure when we're together
You give my life direction
You make everything so clear
And even as I wander
I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fighting for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fightin' for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crashing through your door
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore
My life has been such a whirlwind since I saw you
I've been running 'round in circles in my mind
And it always seems that I'm followin' you, girl
'Cause you take me to the places
That alone I'd never find
And even as I wander
I'm keeping you in sight
You're a candle in the window
On a cold, dark winter's night
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might
And I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fightin' for
It's time to bring this ship into the shore
And throw away the oars, forever
'Cause I can't fight this feeling anymore
I've forgotten what I started fightin' for
And if I have to crawl upon the floor
Come crashing through your door

This is one of the greatest love songs of all times. It can still make me cry, and I am 70 years old. It deeply touches my broken, lonely heart. ❤️🌹❤️
I'm sorry that your heart is feeling broken. I feel for you. I don't know what it is to be 70 years old, but I do know that your life is only over when you quit. You've had a lifetime of wonderful (and some not so wonderful) moments. Some are ahead of you. Remember how it was when you were 17, or 20, or 25, or whenever, and use that confidence to get what you want. It's only over when you quit.
So sorry for the lonely broken heart. My own has felt the same before. My solace comes when I look for someone even more broken, lonely, and in need of a friend than myself and reach out to help them. Hope it helps🥰
@@missya7394 , Thank you, MissyA. I do appreciate it. My love passed away, after being sick for a year. I assumed he had papers written up,but he didn’t. His son is very nasty, so he was next of kin and took over everything. Gene was 78, but I never thought he would pass away. We had bought a Cadillac and he paid cash for it. I got cancer 5 years ago, and I took my name off. Of course, we never thought to put my name back on. His son said I had lifetime rights to live at the house. He also said he was giving me the car. His father would want that. One day there was a knock at the door, his mother had a new title to the car because he had signed it over to her. I had to turn over the keys. Gene would never have wanted her to have the car. After he did that, I decided I had better move. He had control of the house too. I paid half on the funeral, but he still wanted money for all kinds of things. I had to leave our home and beautiful flowers and our big yard. Then 6 months later my sister passed away. I am pulling myself together, but some days are hard. Life is hard, but family is the main thing. I have a wonderful son and daughter. I can always depend on them. It is hard to lose everything at my age. I will prevail! Sorry but it may help for you to know the story.
Esa musica es musica de verdad.igual que la de la naturaleza.

There are certain 80's songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.
It’s a sweet deja vu
Some make me happy 😊.. others make me sad !😢
me too, I remember driving, in the Lake District around, with an American guy who turned up on my doorstep March 85, and April he returned,it was playing on the radio. We fell in love, I went to the U.S. several times but it wasn't meant to be. He broke my heart. Very bittersweet memories
I just started crying when the song begins. Nostalgia? Huge feelings? I dunno.

I love the lyrics “you’re a candle in the window on a cold, dark winters night” this song is a masterpiece ❤
This song was popular when I met my wife. Spot on for us in sentiment and humor. Bringing the ship to shore and throwing away the oars forever, and all that. Two years ago, she passed away. Shortly afterward, I was watching some videos of our favorite music on You Tube. I had probably seen this video before, but with about 1 minute to go (you know when) I literally gasped. It brought tears, but happy ones, for having had her light in my life.
Sorry for your loss. If you have the right person in your life, they can make you feel like you're getting n top of the world and make you feel like you can do anything. I'll never forget the first time I told my wife I loved her when we were dating. This song was playing in my head and I went to give her a kiss and I told her I love you. Let's put it this way. It wasn't the outcome I was hoping for.

Great memories. This is back when Kevin Cronin actually looked like Kevin Cronin and Gary Richrath played that unmistakable guitar. They had already transitioned from a rock band to a pop band, going from Gary's rock guitar driven music to Cronin's ballads, but at least they still sounded like REO Speedwagon. Those were good times with some good music. Thanks for posting this.
MrMike9158 Even in Venezuela... where I come from...
MrMike9158 Kevin Cronin STILL looks like Kevin Cronin!!
Dave Melton Thanks for posting Dave. If you count the times I have seen REO playing club dates in Champaign, Peoria, DeKalb and Rockford, Illinois, I believe I have seen them 27 times. Back in the early days, Cronin was known for his long, curly, dark brown hair and played along side Gary Richrath. The last time I saw REO, was during the Arch Allies tour with Styx and Survivor in St. Louis. Seeing Cronin with short, "dirty blond" hair took some getting used to. The "Speedwagon" will always hold fond memories for me and I really appreciate people taking the time to post these videos and performances, and I appreciate you replying to my initial post. Later.
MrMike9158 When did Kevin Cronin stop looking like Kevin Cronin?
MrMike9158 GO FUCK YOURSELF.

First time I heard this song made me so happy.
If I had a time machine I would go straight back to the 80's, to when I first met my late wife...my soulmate...who passed 5 years ago. We met in Miri, Sarawak on the island of Borneo where she was teaching high school. And then I would set the time machine on "Groundhog Day Mode" and repeat those happy days for all eternity. I am 14 years old, and I discovered this song because I heard it on the radio way home one night. I immediately knew what era it was from, because it has a unique, beautiful and unmistakable rhythm. It's beautiful, I really love it.
I am not from this era, but I really wish I had grown up and lived in it. Thank you for no letting this die.
I literally have a handwritten list of songs from the 60s to 90s. I don't know what is it, but it's just that this music has some magic touch... And nobody can take that away from it. Nobody never will ✨.
I had just married a navy pilot and started my family in 1979 (I was 20). The sixties, seventies and eighties had the best music ever. Do you know why? Because only raw talent made it in the music industry. There was no technology to make you sound better than you were. I feel sorry for the younger generation today who are growing up with music from talentless "artists" and the crap and filth they put out today. You have a maturity that helps you see this. Your parents are proud of you, I am sure! I know I am.
@@triciamills6031You are right! That is very true! The truth is that the artists of that era are completely different from those of today, they were real. And although I am not saying that today's artists are not, unfortunately most of them are not, because of what you say. And it is also unfortunate that, in that sense, this whole culture has been lost. But thanks to you, who keep it alive, our generation can enjoy it as well!!
Thank you very much, your words really mean a lot to me, and I hope you are right about my parents! 💕
I'm so glad that you got to discover this music. The movies from this era were also the best. Star Wars, the original Star Trek, Steven Spielberg... above all E.T. and the original Muppet Movie. And Jim Henson, the greatest television ever!

The people involved in creating this magnificent song probably never thought that this would touch and change so many lives. I'm thankful for this gem.
My daughter was about 5 years old in 1997. We played great albums like this on our record player. She absolutely fell in love with REO Speedwagon. She'll be 30 in just a few months and still plays their songs when we ride in her car 🚗. Your music has touched another generation and now my baby granddaughter is listening to REO too...... 🥰🤩🤩❤💯
because it is truly great music and will be for ever
@@brianbaptist3277 great music 🎶 never goes out of style....I'm just so amazed how my daughter loves groups that her parents grew up with. I'm a child of the 60s and 70s, and we really were blessed with the greatest music 🎶. And we received a new record player last Christmas from our sweet daughter. Classic Vinyl Forever 👌 🙌 😎 ✨ ❤
