  • The first three Final Destination movies undeniably stand as great contributions to the horror genre. These films expertly combine elements of suspense, gore, and psychological tension, captivating audiences with their unique premise and clever execution. The concept of cheating death's design and the subsequent relentless pursuit by an unseen force strikes at the core of primal fears, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats. With their ability to provoke a genuine sense of dread, coupled with an engaging storyline and memorable characters, the first three Final Destination films remain cherished gems within the horror genre.
Written, Edited, and Narrated by: Tyler Nichols
Produced by: John Fallon and Lance Vlcek
    Executive Produced by: Berge Garabedian
SERIES SYNOPSIS: Hollywood has had its fair share of historically troubled productions. Whether it was casting changes, actor deaths, fired directors, in-production rewrites, constant delays, budget cuts or studio edits, these films had every intention to be a blockbuster but were beset with unforeseen disasters. Sometimes huge hits, sometimes box office bombs. Either way, we have to ask: WTF Happened To This Horror Movie?

In my humble opinion, the Final Destination movies (primarily the first one with big honorable mention to the sequel) really changed the landscape of horror and “disaster” movies. It really put the fear of just how horribly things could go with everyday life and how if death wants you, it’ll get you however it can take you. Whether it be with something as simple as a bus, or whether it be waiting silently after years. You can let your guard down, or even call after taking every precaution possible. It really injected that fear and anxiety directly into the public. There’s a reason why people still think of these movies when they’re about to board a plane, or when people drive behind logging trucks or even large trucks in general.

Screws can unscrew themselves in certain situations. I worked in a hardware store filling gas cylinders from the large tanks and one time I actually saw the screw that held the valve handle slowly unscrewing itself from the constant vibration of the gas flow. That freaked me out because I'd seen FD5 in cinemas only a week prior. Glued the screw into place to stop it from happening again.

Out of the first three "Death Visions", the second one is the one that sticks with me the most. You can usually avoid getting on an airplane and roller coasters are typically only found in pricey theme parks. The highway though... you typically take it on the way to work 😳
My main problem with FD3 is that the accident was caused by the pervert bringing his camera on the ride. In the vision, he loses the camera when it's knocked out of his hands and it falls down onto the tracks where it gets stuck. This camera is what caused the crash. However, he gets off the coaster after the girl freaks out over her vision and He Takes The Camera With Him. Therefore, there shouldn't have been a crash

I've always liked how subdued and mysterious the first film was. While I understand the appeal of the sequels and seeing the creative deaths, I miss the sense that there was a way out, a way to escape death. With the sequels, it just becomes obvious that they're all going to die horribly eventually, whether it be on screen or not, so it kind of ruins the plot.

The creativity that death has itself the concept and how random it is. If you were look at death as an artist , and you really thought about it then you would realize that Death has an unlimited well of creatively random and frighteningly chaotic moments to think of or create.

Final destination 1: Death comes to get you
Final Destination 2: Death comes to get you
Final destination 3: The main character "accidentally" kills everyone, she did all the heavy lifting.
The guy that got tailgated: the main character started the truck rolling
The suntan girls: Got trapped because the main character called them
Gym guy: The main character made him boast, which got him killed.
The girl that gets nailed: Main character interfered, no one would have gotten hurt
The last death might be a stretch: he got killed because he wanted revenge, which is because his GF just got killed in front of him because of the main character indirectly; She did bring him there for Death to finish off, just like the rest.
Wendy really did most of the work in this movie...

I remember reading about the original ending of the first film a long time ago, and I gotta say I really do wish they would have gone with a mix of that and the one they went with. Either have Alex or Carter sacrifice themself at the very end to cheat death that way to win the movie and establish that as a thing. Or, based on the second movie and how it played out, have Alex and Clear make the baby but Carter dies, and the two of them win for making a baby. Then in the sequel when the "only new life beats death" or whatever becomes canonical they can find an internet post about cheating death and visions posted by Alex and Clear, they track them down and the then learn about the rule that way. Only since there was already a pregnant chick there have the main chick realize that won't save her or the others unless they survive long enough for that chick to have her baby. Make it more about them cheating death than just looking for the signs.

I remember watching the first movie with some friends as a teen and eventhough they never scared me I can totally see how and why they can affect people. One of my friends stood up at one moment out of the blue and went to the next room. When we saw he wasn't going to the bathroom and was just walking around in the room we paused the movie and another friend went to see if he was alright. He said "I'm not scared about things like freddy because I know they don't exist, but this is death". He was having a mild panic attack. And he was right. Except for the water magically receding there was nothing weird about the "villain" of the movie. You can get hit by as a bus or have something dropped on your head at any moment.
I think the convoluted ways people get killed in the sequels add to the entertainment value but (most of) the deaths in the first one seem so real and plausible that they trigger a basic fear that no other horror franchise does.

I will never forget what I was doing that day that I first watched this movie back in 2004. I was 10 years old visiting my grandma(my mom's mom) in Mexico with my family. One day my dad wanted to pay respect to this saint's shrine on top of a mountain so he took me and my two older brothers to climb this mountain and the journey to the top was crazy once there we saw pictures, flowers, candles, and letters thanking the saint. All I could remember was the view from the top it was beautiful. It was time to go down the mountain and my eldest brother ended up cutting his hand pretty bad getting down so we rushed to my other grandma's(my dad's mom) house she helped him out. We ended up going back to my grandma's house(my mom's mom) and they had been promoting this movie for that whole week and it so happens to be on the tv when we get there and it traumatized me and my brothers and sister. I used to fear Death because of this movie, but now I understand it's apart of life.
