    I lived for the better part of a decade in the Yuma Foothills. For seniors, the biggest challenge with the community is that there is ONE, and only ONE, hospital. YRMC pretty much has a choke hold over city government with regard to health care in the region. Twenty or so years ago, the city had been talking about possibly building a second hospital. YRMC got involved in the conversation, and mysteriously the second hospital plan was cancelled. If you have a health issue, and you're unable to get the level of care that you need, you may find yourself driving Phoenix, Tucson, or San Diego.
    Oh and there is VERY LITTLE water in the Colorado River in the vicinity of Yuma. Thanks Arizona, California, and Nevada! ☹ The river looks more like a creek as it crosses the international border into Mexico.
    Lastly, if you choose to live out in the Foothills, don't be surprised when you find large desert scorpions, rattlesnakes, and sidewinders in and around your yard.

    I enjoyed watching your video sharing your experience. We will be considering some of the places you mentioned. But what i would really like to do is purchase land about an 1/4- 1/2 acre to build a container home. Are you familiar with container homes? Yuma, Green Valley and Bull Head all sounds like nice areas. I hear crime might be an issue in Yuma? I will reach out to you in a couple of months. Ron

    I see a lot of comments about not being affordable anymore. Housing went up everywhere during covid, including Green Valley. A lot of boomers retiered earlier than expected driving up prices 40-50%. The old folks selling now want the 2022 covid price for a home with no updates. Those are not selling, they sit on the market. Most homes are about 40 years old now. No one wants your 40 year old bathrooms and kitchen. Nicely updated homes priced below 2022 levels sell imediately. If you can buy cash and have patience you will score. Green Valley is nice!

    • @Southwest55Plus
      @Southwest55Plus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You are exactly right! Affordable has a new meaning now. Selling a home now requires a serious plan to be competitive with new homes with updates and modern decor. Without that plan, the home will sit on the market until it drastically reduces in price. I appreciate your thoughtful comment! Thanks so much for watching my channel. 🙂

      Florida condos are a mess right now. Insurance is crazy high there and the new regulations are making it impossible to stay. Arizona is different. The HOA laws here work well to protect owners. Thanks for watching!

    The question is: Where can healthy, clear headed, clear thinking, non religious, non racist retirees go where there are not abusive senior parks ready to snap up your property - which is why there are so many of them.

    • @Southwest55Plus
      @Southwest55Plus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The key is to stay FAR away from senior manufactured parks! Lots of affordable options in single family homes. Sun City and other Del Webb communities have some nice homes where you own your land and have a fixed cost. Call me and I'll give you some info! Thanks for watching.

    Arizona is a driving city and if you cannot drive, you are stuck! Also be prepared to pay $300-$500 a month during the hot summer and it finally cooled down about a week ago. My sister said but her bill have been running about $400-$500 for the last five months.

    • @Southwest55Plus
      @Southwest55Plus  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Those bills sound high to me. My highest bill is only for one or two months and is still under $300. I keep my home reasonably cool. But you're right about the car thing. Here in the Phoenix Valley, we need cars to get around. No way to be without one. I'm hoping to see more driverless cars soon for our non-driving friends.

    What realtors in small communities will NOT tell you is that you will NEVER find a skilled worker to fix anything in your house if it goes wrong. These workers simply do not exist in smaller communities. If you can't fix it yourself, you're out of luck.

    • @Southwest55Plus
      @Southwest55Plus  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Sorry to hear that you're struggling with that! You might try the website called Thumbtack. Lots of contractors for smaller jobs on that site. Type in your zipcode and see. I just checked a few smaller towns and saw people looking for work! Try it and see what you can find. Thanks for watching!

    Arizona is FANTASTIC. BUT - the beauty, peace and quiet come at a cost if you live in smaller communities. There are NO - ZERO - NADA - skilled tradesmen! So if your water pipes leak, your circuit breakers catch fire, your roof has a hole in it, or weeds take over your garden, you are STUCK! There is no one capable of fixing anything. The result is that all the smaller communities outside of Phoenix and Tucson are essentially 100% DIY. For the disabled, that is a disaster.

    • @Southwest55Plus
      @Southwest55Plus  24 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I'm curious to know where you live. When I do a google search or look on Thumbtack there are workers in the small towns that I searched. How small is your town?

      Nowhere is better unless you go with something super rural and then there are other issues. When you look at our insurance vs other states we are still lower. Housing is lower than other states when you include property taxes. Our utilities are way lower than other states. Let me know what other places you find that are better so I can check them out for the audience. We are all trying to find affordability and it is becoming a challenge. I appreciate you watching and leaving a great comment!

    104 - 110 in the summer. NO Thank you! Isn't Arizona running out of water? Climate change will impact the area greatly. And you may pay less for a mobile home but you don't own the land so you will be Renting on top of your mortgage AND will be at risk of uncontrollable land lease increases. Not very secure for a fixed income. I would hate to be 80 and get and notice the land lease is going up. At that point, you are stuck since your mobile home is NOT mobile. Do your research.

    • @Southwest55Plus
      @Southwest55Plus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If you're talking about Yuma mobile homes then that is a different story. They are priced super low and have much lower lot rents. These are Snowbird places with very few year round residents. Watch more of my videos and learn how I NEVER advise people to buy a manufactured home in a community with high lot rents. Seniors should not go this route and I don't even sell them. But there are plenty of very affordable homes both mobile and stick-built where you won the land. You're so right when you say to "do your research!"

    • @Southwest55Plus
      @Southwest55Plus  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      And we do have enough water. Climate change will impact the entire earth if you belive the "experts." The 4+ million who live just in the Phoenix area are not worried so as we are all mindful of the fact that we do live in a desert, we continue to exist and thrive here. If the people of Dubai can figure it out so can we!
