I have always shimmed my pinion gear in my axles. 1/24rh and 1/10th. saves so much money on parts.
Yes, finally! Thank you for making a video on them, I have been looking at them!
Dang, sucks to hear that about them.
these thing look great!!
It was questionable when aloe express said they had gears ready so I didn’t try for it glad I didn’t!!
I'm not a fan of AliExpress, great video. Hopefully FMS will once again listen and make us some upgraded metal spools.
Yeah I’m trying to get them to make us some overdrive gears also but they don’t understand the importance of them yet lol
@@2fmrc I'm a crawler noob, I don't know the importance of overdrive gears either. Once I get my Max Smasher, my FCX24 Power Wagon might become a shelf queen.
@@FlailinMonkeyHow are you liking the max smasher? Just ordered mine but I really considered the k5.
@@keldonator I still love my Max Smasher, for me it really needed the upgrade motor to be fun and I had to buy a different battery after upgrading the motor. I haven't needed to upgrade anything else though but I did break one of the front body clips.
@@FlailinMonkey Did you change the transmission gears and driveshafts to metal? I also read that it needs a heatsink for the more powerful motor.
Yeah I bought one set glad that’s all I bought, they’re still in the package
Yeah I’m gonna go that route, probably wait and see what FMS does
You might be able to make shims using a feeler gauge and a hole punch
I ordered some shims to try but I’m sure something can be done. Not sure how much work I’m gonna put into them though. Got the fms diffs coming to lock up and use lol
😠😠😠Mine are sitting in the box on my bench, waiting to be installed. I only got two though, just in case. FMS should make them for sure.
You can run a o ring or two to take up that gap. Longevity might be an issue but worth a shot
Bummer deal. Thanks for the heads up vid!
What a bummer.. I don’t have a fcx but this seemed like it would be a good replacement piece
Dang it I already ordered some & they will be here any year now! 😂 I am running the open diffs locked now without any issues, but I did have a little play so I shimmed the planet gear with an m5x7 washer & it fits great, but I was blaming the Treal axle housing for that 😅
I’m gonna try to find some shims we can use for these hopefully.
Appreciate you sharing will catch on the next one
Yea, silicone works great!!👍
Could you slip an O-ring over the shaft against the inner bearing race? Similar to the way the worm gear comes in the scx24.
I think you may be able to but I feel like it’ll just push the gear too far back the other way. It has to sit basically in the perfect spot. Movement either way makes it crunchy. I’m just gonna run the fms open diffs and lock them.
I wonder if you could machine in a slot for a snap ring. I did get the gear diffs from Fair RC, so I should be good.
Yeah I’m just gonna run those myself. Easier than trying to make these things work. I just lock them with ear plugs. Been working well.
THANK YOU AGAIN FOR TESTING THE " UPGRADES" OUT AND WEEDING OUT THE GOOD FROM THE BAD. THE RECEIVER YOU USE, WHAT RADIOS ARE THEY COMPATIBLE WITH? FLYSKY GT5? WHAT ABOUT THE NEW FLYSKY? DOES THE ANT PROTOCOL HAVE TO BE USED OR CAN IT RUN AN OLDER RECEIVER?
Really appreciate that! Yeah those work with the gt5. I have that g7p radio also and never use it just because there are no good small receivers for it yet & the menu is absolute trash! I need to sell it. Very let down with it.
They are called shims. Im sure there are some out there with all the mini z and other brands of 1/28 rcs
Yeah. You’d think if they needed shims they’d be included. Never used any on 1/24s and never needed them. If they were made correctly there wouldn’t be a need for them. The fms gears don’t need them.
Thanks for doing a video on these, I'm having that same problem and was very curious if you would as well. I'm also running aftermarket housings so it's good to see that wasn't the problem. Can you confirm if the ring gear from the FMS open diffs will mount onto this spool? Could be an option being the AliExpress spool just has the ring gear screwed on. If the bolt pattern is the same, might be able to use the gears from the FMS open diff on this spool until we have a better option.
Yeah I meant to mention that but somehow cut it out lol. They don’t fit. The hole in the center of the ring gear from fms isn’t large enough to go over the spool shaft.
@@2fmrc I was afraid that would be the case, would have been too easy of a fix LOL. Guess it's wait for FMS to make some proper ones. Thanks for being the boots on the ground verifying this kind of stuff for us and as always, for the great content 👊
Aren’t those supposed to be held by shaft from other way to stop the movement?
Less clean and snug compared to stock but still.
Wonder if you can shim them
I’m gonna try to find some shims for them but the shaft don’t keep them in place. They still move back and forth. I ran it for a few mins and sometimes it would run good then all of a sudden it would just lock up the rear end lol
Good to know on the alli express stuff, have you had any issues or odd stuff happen to your FMS transmitters? Mine has like a faulty steering modular or something because if I move the controller around slightly without even touching the wheel it makes the steering servo twitch and turn.. have you run into that yet or heard about that before? If you have, do you know how I can fix it?
I’ve got one that the throttle trim is very touchy on. Also If the batteries get low at all in the transmitters it’ll cause the servo to twitch but I haven’t had any that just twitched for no reason like that.
Yeah I had the transmitter go bad on mine. The potentiometers that Flysky put in these things must be bottom of the barrel crap. Mine was undrivable within the second battery pack. 13 emails later and they sent me a new transmitter and steering servo to get my truck running again. I did notice the price on a replacement transmitter and receiver from FMS went up from $33 to like $44 so they either got Flysky to use better components or that's how they are covering all the warranty replacements?!
I had reverse go out on mine. Had to turn both the transmitter, and rig, then turn it back on to get it to work again.
What about a shim. In real axles you’ve gotta shim them.. wonder if they make em for small axles like these
Hey Guy! I got me one yesterday an my foward and reverse are backwards.. What should I do??
Also Amazon and ebay also are now selling metal spools, but on my previous comment, I put a link to fms 1/18 atlas and Cheyenne metal spools the should fit right?
Will the FMS metal pinion gear mesh up with the AliExpress locked spool? Didn't know if the gears were cut the same. If so, that would be an option to try. That way you have proper spacing of the pinion gear and a full metal locked spool.
They look to be cut very different to me. The Ali spool has very sharp looking teeth and the fms is more rounded. I figure if I’m gonna have to buy the fms open diff anyway I’ll just lock them and use those.
@@2fmrc it might be worth throwing them together in an axle, just to see. The sharpness of the Ali spool might not be an issue with the proper mesh/position of the FMS pinion. Be worth a test so all of us on the other side of the camera lens know. :)
That was a great review. I shim my 1/10 RCs with the different shims. But with this little truck, I wouldn't have anything to shim it with properly. And that's nice to know because some metal lockers would be great. But now I will refrain from buying them. Thanks
You’ll find that most Chinese made RC parts are not perfect and they usually strip or there a lot play or they don’t fit right specially if it’s made by third part vendor not by original manufacturer. Have you tried using center piece of the bearing? Yes dismantling the bearing and just using center piece…
Yeah I kinda expected they may not be great. I actually ordered some shims that I’m hoping will work.
@@2fmrc yeah hold off FMS stuff..reminds me of WPL stuff…it’s great cheap RC stuff but Axial coming out 1/18 CAPRA fingers crossed it might have a dig functional mechanism well see…
@@Callmebutturblk yeah I’m waiting for that one to post. Ordering soon as it drops. I actually got contacted by someone with horizonhobby about these and I’m hoping to make the cut on getting one for review but I’m ordering either way lol
@@2fmrc yeah right on or you mentioned to Axial to create 1/18 MOA crawler. There was MOA 1/10 axial crawler and they discontinued it which was weird or maybe RC4wD bought the rights who knows but Capra one will go against TRX4M ha ha May the best crawler win-
@@Callmebutturblk yeah this Capra will destroy the Trx4m crawling but the Traxxas will be a great trail truck I’m sure. I got both trx4ms coming and now this so the 1/18 content is about to take a surge 😆
Dang. Wish I saw this video before buying mine. I just tried installing them and same thing happened to me. They lock up and crunch just with the articulation of the axle. Any luck getting a refund?
I honestly never tried. Figured it was a waste of time lol
@2fmrc Did you ever test if the Aliexpress spool works with the metal FMS pinion gear?
Good luck.. lol. I have bought hundreds of things from aliexpress and gave up long ago. Lol. Once in a while you get a good seller. But you are going to have to send pics and videos and the interface sucks. So you will have to covert video format.. and try to shrink video down to less then 25mb. And the get ready to fight and argue. Lol. Most sellers don't speak English and have to use a translation app and will likely refuse so then you have to open dispute as well. And since they don't take PayPal you are at their mercy with no protection. The only reason I go there is they are extremely cheap. I just got a HW max 10 esc 120amp for 64$ Canadian shipped to my door so it's hard to argue even if they have awful customer service.
Sounds like I won’t even bother. I’ll just kill their business with this video 😆
@ROCCO Pazzo all of mine went through PayPal also 🤷🏻♂️
Awesome!! Thanks for the info!💪🏼
