I’ve just stated my nursing degree this week. I have no previous experience at all and I am sooooooo terrified to start my first placement because of this. Any advice? Btw I love watching your videos they really help 😊
Hey Olivia, aww it's completely normal to feel nervous first of all, you need to remember that most people including myself had hardly any previous experience!! I would just say get organized eg) find your ward and know how to get there, do a little research about what type of ward it is and also what condition may be on that ward also. Aww thank you so much ❤️ good luck with your first placement xx
My aunt trained in the early 2000's she did 4600 clinical placement hours. Now the clinical hours are 50% less at 2300 hours. To top that off we pay for our degrees now too leaving people in 30 thousand tuition fee debt plus accommodation and living expenses on top say 60k debt after you graduate!!! Nurse wages have gone down 25% in just over 10 years in the UK after the government wage freezes. Now Nurses and their families are dying on the daily due to COVID. and the UK government refuse to increase the wages!!! lol Anyone wanting to Nurse in the UK better know what they are in for !!! It'a a awful profession to go into in the UK and nurses get exploited by the Government and the NHS.
Hi Claire...thanks for the great info....I want to do pre nursing degree in Ireland...do you know if placement will be done together with in class lecture during the duration of the course or is placement after the programme?.....is the pre nursing degree in Ireland same as LPN/LVN?
Hey Claire thanks so much for a great video! A couple of questions - did you do some bank HCA work during your degree and did it help you in terms of learning not just money? How do you step up your skills in second year? I still feel not 100% in basic care like bed bathing and I’ve never used a hoist and I have just finished 1st year. Will this cause me problems for my second year placements? I’m panicking!! Thank you xx
Aww, you're welcome, I'm glad it helped! I did a course called pre-nursing in Ireland which was a few months long and part of that was HCA work as work experience! It defo helped but isn't needed if that makes sense! It all comes with practice and time honestly don't worry, just maybe make sure in your next placement you get more experience and use a hoist if at all possible! Don't worry too much though, everything will work out and the skills will come xx
Very excited to hear about the theatre placement! It’s one of areas I’m interested in most
Yay, I cant wait to talk more about it when it happens!!x
