Roguelikes look very fun, and I have played one in the form of a Pokemon Roguelike a year ago. My issue with traditional roguelikes is my patience with them - I hate having to start over from scratch with nothing, and nothing to show for my progress. It's a very defeating thing to get so far, only for the game to hand you a loss on a silver platter. I do, however, enjoy when you get something for your efforts anyway - win or lose. In the Pokemon Roguelike, the Pokemon you catch become part of an unlockable Safari Zone which you can add to your team as a Starter Pokemon, you earn money when you can use to buy items to start off with, among other things which can make future runs easier to manage. I'm not saying in general roguelikes should be easier, but a complimentary prize would be nice to show you did really well.
