🎮 ABOUT THE GAME 🎮
Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones is a tactical role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems, and published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Advance handheld video game console in 2004 for Japan and 2005 in the West. It is the eighth entry in the Fire Emblem series, the second to be released outside Japan, and the third and final title to be developed for the Game Boy Advance after The Binding Blade and its prequel Fire Emblem.
Set in a separate continuity to earlier Fire Emblem titles, The Sacred Stones takes place on the fictional continent of Magvel, which is divided into five nations, each built around a magical stone said to be linked to the imprisonment of an ancient demon. When one of the five nations, the Grado Empire, invades its neighbors and begins destroying the stones, protagonists Eirika and Ephraim of the royal family of Renais set out to gather allies and halt Grado's conquest, while also trying to uncover the reasons for the war. The gameplay is similar to previous Fire Emblem games, focusing on turn-based, tactical movement of units across a grid-based battlefield. His main content on this channel will focus on solo runs and challenge runs of all kinds spanning over the entire Fire Emblem franchise. Can you do this mode with colm? He has such low max attack plus sword lock. I wonder if you would just be banking on assassinate procking with a bunch of iron swords. Also it would be cool to see if it's even possible to do an archer run. You would have to upgrade to ranger so you can use swords for the protecting the queen chapter tho
Now that I think about it, you could do a neimi colm duo run. They are both so weak I think it's acceptable XD

Knoll is secretly just an fe7 morph. That's the only explanation for the 0 luck. Either that or he really hates casinos.
He was banished by Nergal into Fe8, because he sucked in his stats 😂

I would say that in future runs it’s fine to use other characters to grab the items in the desert, as long as all non-boss (moving) enemies are dead. At that point, it’s just a time waster, it doesn’t make it any harder, just more tedious.
Yeah, I feel that this is a fair point. Adding to the tedium of the run isn't really the goal here.
THE TIME HAS COME
This run is insane. I enjoyed every minute of it. Seeing Knoll and his little phantom buddy toiling all the way to demon king, I just wished that Nintendo had made possible their A bond support.

It seems like most of Knoll's issues are caused by dark tomes being awful. His Luck is probably the biggest issue thats purely his own fault.
Really appreciate you doing this! I'm a dirty Knoll lover, so this was very fun to finally see come to fruition.
Yeah, the Dark Tomes are just god-awful and low speed and con doesn't really help any of that. I'm glad I could service even the Knoll lovers in my community

I'd say it's mostly his con being bad. Literally dark tomes would work fine for him if his con was closer to Moulders. They intentionally wanted him to be near parody levels of bad with God awful bulk, god awful avoid, gets crit often and gets slowed down nearly always.
@@coldeed Afaik his Con is the second highest of the unpromoted magic users in Sacred Stones, only behind Saleh by a single point and Moulder by 2. So when promoted his Con is = to Saleh's. Using Moulder as a baseline for this doesn't make sense. His Con is abnormally high for a priest, which actually has the drawback of letting fewer units rescue him.
In a game that also has Lute with a whopping 3 Con at base, its hard to claim Knoll has "bad" Con. Its just not sufficient for dark tomes, which comes back around to my original point.
@@TuskyBaby He has bad con. Just like Ross has bad con for using axes. Just like Joshua has good con for using swords.
Con is only good it it hits good thresholds. Knoll starts in negative thresholds, and has the same issues characters like lute and Natasha do with con. It really doesn't matter if the number is higher when it's not adequate con.

It's kind of impressive how he didn't perish in the ironman lmao.
A random idea for a run I had... less for an actual rank run and more for fun like the Myrrh run would be to give a Bishop access to dark tomes and see how that goes. Give Glepnir a chance to actually do boosted damage. It IS technically possible with glitches after all. You can give any unit access to dark magic by giving them stone from enemy gorgons.
As for a more Serious run though I want see Ewan now... Make him a druid And watch him wreck shop... if he can survive long enough.

I can't wait for the Ewan comparison! But your idea does sound quite fun.
Honestly the only thing that might be a problem for Ewan is if you can even get a flux tome for him quick enough. Not sure when exactly you can get one for the first time. I do think Shaman to druid would be the best bet for him though.
I will say I am not 100% sure if Slayer would actually work with a dark tome... Never actually been able to try it before. I only thought about it this last time I was playing and setting it up in a regular game can be quite a pain.
@@chaossnowkitsune6377 It does. It's one of those things people like doing with Bishops to make up for low Magic since Naglfar is infinite and gets boosted to hell and back from Slayer.
Ah! Okay good to know. I honestly wasn't sure it would work or not. Like I thought it would as there isn't really a reason for it not to work, but for all I knew there was some weird bit of coding that didn't let it work. Thank you for letting me know that it does work.
@@chaossnowkitsune6377You gain access to Flux tomes on chapter 4 as it's the first one with the preparations screen which includes the shop (sells all basic weapons including flux from the start)

So i picked these up because my job is tolerable with "podcast" videos and though I never played Sacred Stones I like these videos a lot. Super informative, amusing, and a good dive at which choices are made.

I mean... GOAT is not how I'd qualify him, but sure why not!
Another thing to consider with the swiftswole, is sometimes you need the movement to place your unit outside of range of a hard hitting enemy unit, or attack them before they attack you, not just to save time
That's very true, it's not JUST about cutting down turns. Having more movement allows more flexibility in terms of placement.

If you keep doing what you did here and use other characters to look for hidden items in the desert, then you could also go back and subtract the time you spent hitting "wait" on the runs you already did. That way you could remove the tedium in the future while still preserving the time comparison between runs.
Love the series! FE8 was my first and favorite game so I can't wait for the next episode of this great series.

Knoll actually has lore behind why his luck is so bad; he helped Leon find the power of the dark stone, was imprisoned by the demon king because he found out what the dark stone was about, tried for treason, and was saved by Ephriem only by Shere coincidence; thinking he was his executioner.

I think the utility afforded by the extra movement is harder to quantify than just a # of turns, its hard to tell how often you would've died without it, or stuff like that
as far as a strategy to keep mansel alive to grab the statbooster, you can actually have summons take rescued units even though they cant pick people up on their own, maybe something with that?
You're right about that, there is definitely more than just saving turns to the boots.
The one problem with that strategy is that it may only save us a turn or two because the Phantoms work like flying units, they don't get slowed by terrain but also don't get the bonuses the throne would provide to help survivability, but thanks for the suggestion.
KNOLL SUPREMACYYYYYY
Just curious as you mentioned the desert treasures, why not not count turns where the only thing happening is spamming end turn for items and no enemies are moving/combat is happening to your solo run unit of choice. That way everyone can obtain these items and not just waste 50 turns for possibility no gain?
The reason doing that wouldn't be a perfect solution is because I consider the ability to grab these items as much part of the run as anything else since it is based on stats.

Love the rip knoll emote, but for the apparel you should have put the emote more center then on the back his death quote “In this darkness, I will find peace.”
We tried centering it and it didn't look as good. I'm personally not a fan of adding text to the back of shirts, it makes them a little crowded. The point of the merch was to remain minimalist at best so that it's something people can wear pretty much anywhere while still repping the channel :)

update: fe7 runs can easily die to chapters 12 and 13. also, i'm curious to see how Neimi (or FE7 Rebecca) would fare in a solo run, given how squishy and underpowered archers tend to be early on.

@@kratosmvn_ it definitely doesn't help that i chose to start with my favorite unit in the entire game. archers don't do very well on their own (': in much better news, watching Nino absolutely melt chapter 15's giant desert swarms after insanely favorable levels is super satisfying
update: through a bit of careful routing and a large supply of luck, it's possible to beat fe8 chapter 6 and get the Orion's bolt with a squishy archer that has enough power

If you want to torture yourself, you should do Neimi next, I've been trying to do Neimi solo in a normal copy of the game (not modifying the lord, I just started soloing with her on chapter 3) and I think it's impossible to get the Orion's Bolt on chapter 6, which means you'll be bow-locked and unpromoted until chapter 15 unless you manage to make it work (to be fair, I did refrain from using other units as meatshields to divert the enemies' attention, which might allow you to beat chapter 6 fast enough)
Yeah, Neimi just sounds god-awful, it'll be worst than this for sure!

As you were going through the promotion options I was thinking you were going to do both paths and compare them but then seeing how the rest of the run went I totally understand why you didn't

I was really wondering what happened to the Solo runs, but when you mentioned the christmas stream it hit me like truck in an Isekai. I was lurking the stream when it happened and totally forgot about it.

What I like about the myrm runs is they will be a better metric for Erika if she wasn't story locked
The reason the Demon King went for Knoll anyway is because either one was a option to be attacked due to being able to be defeated. If Knoll had about 40HP then the Phantom would have been the target.

@@kratosmvn_ As far as I know the AI has a few quirks.
1. Take no counter attack if at all possible.
2. If it know it can see a kill with several attacks it will use as many as it feels it needs to.
3. If there are several targets that can die, it will pick at random.
4. If there is no weapon equipped it will go for them because there will never be a counter attack.
Given these are solo runs but if you want to branch out and do a Ewan Summoner run as well these are some things to bare in mind.

Finally! At last!
Everyone can beat the game with a character like Myrrh, but Knoll requires true skill (and especially patience) 🎉.
I think patience is the most important one here lol
It's probably possible to force the demon king's AI to move into a corner using phantoms, while Gnoll stands out of range. Eventually the demon king will be stuck in the north corner and can be counterattacked, meaning you only need to take single shots on EP. 2 Move and 3 range means the AI will always back up if Phantom is south of them in range.
That is such a good point, dang... I really didn't think about that. I might have to try out just to test.
@@kratosmvn_ Gnoll may not even need to take first shot either, just send in the phantom to die. Should put them in a far better position to survive the adds.

I realize you'll probably only include units who could be taken into the end map normally, but if you expand it to all playable units, I'm very excited for the Orson run
I have been thinking of doing Monster Campaign units too but probably last.

Interesting thing to note about Summoners in FF8 (All 2 of them...): While the stats of the Phantoms are based on the Summoner's level, the equipment is based on which character did the summoning.
When Ewan summons a Phantom it spawns with an Iron Axe, Steel Axe, or Handaxe.
When Knoll summons a Phantom it spawns with a Killer Axe, Devil Axe, or Tomahawk.
Yeah, I didn't talk about it, but I should have mentioned it. Knoll does get the far better spread of weapons.
Epilogue: Everybody act like they are heroes that defeat the demon king while knoll visit massaging house

I was actually surprised you went Summoner because for all the utility they offer on the actual maps, I assumed Druids were the better choice for Fomortiis by much more far than what ended up being. Goes to show that being a Summoner stan DOES have it's pride after all.
Now you're finally free from him... I have to wonder what the next "impossible milestone" will be, I assume Neimi or Innes, but for now I hope the next few runs are easier on you.

47:15 I recall that the AI prioritises trying to kill allies, and attacking with Knoll first put him in kill range too, so Fomortiis just ends up swinging for him instead of the Phantom. I doubt it, but I wonder if a Devil Axe Phantom could chip Fomortiis?

I like to imagine when Knoll dies there it sends him back in time, so he's actually here to complete some time loop. This Knoll we've seen up here is the one that makes it to the end.
Some sort of twisted time loop where he dies over and over again.
I'd like to see a Seth solo run but instead of picking Eirika's route, you pick Ephiram's route for a nice change of pace
If I use Ephraim's route it messes with the comparison at the end. I could do something different with Ephraim's route though in the future.

@mvn_ To be fair the person I watched strived for at least somewhat ideal stats from level ups. Which took a few playthru resets.

Curious, I know it was an afterthought in the final minutes of the video after that god-tier Summoner run, but what were the Druid's final stats when he finally took the Demon Kings head?
He had 1 more magic point, 2 more luck, 2 less skill and one less defense, the other stats were the same. So it all came out quite similar.
