I bought my range finder for $75 and it has performed amazing! I’ve had it for a little over year and it’s performing right up there with my brothers $300 bushnell. I think a big difference in price probably comes in longevity. The top end rangefinders, like bushnell, should last years longer but we’ll see
I got the Mileseey rangefinder with flag-lock and on/off slope after your review. Amazon had it on special offer for about £65. So impressed told my mate's wife to buy him one for Christmas. It does everything I need and is very quick.
Another good way to find a range finder is to look in the hunting section instead of the golf section. The market is saturated more in hunting. Also go to the tennis section for polos, "golf" polos are more expensive just based on the market.
The hunting style rangefinders don’t usually work very well for golf. Do your research because they use different software prioritizing the closest target vs the most distant target. Also a lot of the hunting rangefinders don’t use the small red laser dot and instead use a little square like the old 35mm camera viewfinders. That makes it tough to bounce it off a flag stick. Most hunters are bouncing off of a large rock or tree or an animal which is quite a bit easier than a golf flag stick
This is the range finder I’ve got and I love it, never had any issues locking on or getting the distance. I wouldn’t spend much on a range finder especially as there are free golf apps which give you yardage, range finder nice to have to reassure you if you’re not confident your app is giving you correct yardage or if the pin has moved.
One thing you have to be careful of, marking down the 5 or so yard differences between the expensive and the cheap one does not necessarily mean that the cheaper one is inaccurate. You'd need a perfect measurement to assess their values against.
I was just going to make a similar comment as I thought the same thing as I was watching, no way to verify which measurement is accurate. Still for that big a price difference it is a strong case for the cheaper model.
Thanks for the great review! I've been wanting to get a range finder for this season, and I think I'll actually pick up one of these inexpensive ones. There was no way I was going to spend $400-$500CDN dollars on a range finder, but I can definitely justify up to $150. I think I may pull the trigger on the AOFAR GX-2S. Not much more than the Dormie and I can have it by tomorrow, haha! Great review once again! For those looking for more money-saving golf tips, I picked up the Kirkland Signature gloves to try out. They come in a 4-pack for the price of one premium glove. I just went through my first one after 2 rounds with good warm-up sessions, and another range session, and then a backyard range session. Lasted way longer than the two Taylormade gloves I bought. Longest lasting name-brand glove I've had was a Callaway.
So, I got my AOFAR GX-2S yesterday and played around with it. It is really nice. Locking onto a target is super fast. I haven't played with the slope setting yet but just did some general target testing and it seems really good. Worth the extra $10CDN. Thanks to SAS Golf for doing the review because I likely never would have considered one of these cheap range finders because I just wouldn't know if they were any good!
Bought a benross one from American golf. It went back a week later the yardages it was throwing out were up to 30 yards different on the same distance. Changed it for the shotscope laser and haven't looked back.
Hi all, I bought a Boblov online last year for £60 including delivery. I have had a Bushnell, which wouldn’t focus after a couple of years. Then I bought a a ‘Pro something, or other’ from America (got hit for £60 import duty by UPS when it arrived). That lasted about 18 months before it started giving me wildly varying distances. The Boblov is excellent (at the moment). Only time will tell.
Really well done. I think the cheap one is adequate for most people unless a person has the skill to stick it tight with their game beyond 180 yards. When we start talking 200 yards, I would be happy to just get it on the green. So, I could be happy with the cheap one.
I also use tour V4 and Garmin S10 watch for blind holes both give same yardages however in drisely rain I find the Bushnel sometimes can not pick up the flag also in mist and fog.
Mist, fog, or even dust will be detremental to any rangefinder performance, regardless of the model or pricepoint. There is just no way to predict how the particulates hanging in the air will deflect that laser.
I just bought the new mileseey pf280 (I know you did the old one) the new one Has slope on and off with flag lock with vibrate and a rechargeable for £99.99. Feels premium and used today and it was brilliant was quick and it still has the same case as your bushnell one.
Bought the millessey of the back of your old vlog still got it cracking range finder The brand names you pay for all the advertising, big bosses salaries, and the sponsorship deals and them giving them away so a lot more expensive
I just bought a cheapo on amazon. I plan on running a gage r&r/measurement system analysis on it. it was like $65 USD or something and it's rechargeable so I don't have to worry about the stupid batteries that expensive and impossible to find.
Just started golf typed in best value range finder thats the one that came up, got it love it, compare it with my bros who's got top of the range no difference at all, happy days keep up the good work
I range a target (golf flag) the way I was trained to shoot a rifle in the Army.. Using the flag height as 6'.. If I feel a head hold is needed for a center hit - I pull a long iron. If a upper chest hold is required- I pull a mid Iron.. If I can hold dead on - I pull a wedge... There easy peasy ...... Dead on Bro...... The tee shot - Artillery -- Driver or 7 wood........
Had one for two years with no problems and mine uses two AAA type. One thought though, how many of us can hit the same club the same distance every time? not many i suspect , but its very helpful for club selection which is what i use it for.
I use a "Boblov" that I got for like 70 quids two years+ ago (I think... Possibly longer, actually... that was some time in 2019 if memory serves). When using the flaglock/vibration feature it's not necessarily super fast but it's definitely accurate, does get a fix quickly if not in the flaglock mode (I indeed take two or three measurements after having hit into the back bushes two or three times at the beginning). Still goes well after all this time, even if I probably play at least 3 times a week. I only have changed the battery once! The only thing I wish it had is a fast flaglock mode and an easy button for slope on/slope off. That said, when I use it for an official competition I deactivate slope going through the menus once and reactivate it when it's finished and nobody ever has really even asked the question of whether that was there (and in all honesty, the slope compensation is more of an "average helping gimmick" as you'll have different effects on different ball flights, spin values and all... comparing with the Bushnell of a friend, mine "compensates" better for me on mid irons than the Bushnell, but the Bushnell does a slightly better job on wedges/short irons... it's also better at shost hit up, and worse at shots hit down... )
I have the Acegmet that I got off Amazon that was right around $70.00 it's rechargeable and has slope. I've had it for 2 seasons and not an issue. up against my Garmin watch it's very close. So I'm a happy golfer.
You can get a lob wedge for £18-95 delivered on Amazon, bought one and it’s spot on(I only use lob wedge once a round so can’t see the point of having an expensive one)
Many people don't use them properly. You gave to scan from side to side to lock onto the nearest target say the pin. I hace a boblov randerfinder very close to a freinds bushnell.
Hi mate That's the range finder that the mother in law got me last Xmas, I find it quite accurate but I do have to zap it 3 times probably because I'm not that steady at holding it because it is very light,it's very quick at getting yardages, but I love it and use it in conjunction with my Garmin watch . really impressed with it . Great vid as usual mate .
Totally agree with your assessment. You only really need a range finder between 150 - 100 yards I think. I don't have a range finder but would consider getting the budget one.
You really should get one, however, I don't really agree with your distance estimate... Rangefinder "uber accuracy" sure isn't really useful after 220 yards as your (lack of) accuracy is indeed going to be more of a problem than the lack of accuracy of the device. However 150 yards to 200 yards, that's where they're the most useful as it's a type of distance you can be decently accurate at without playing on the PGA tour yet that you'll typically have a hard time eyeballing! You also often need the device for longer stuff, like "Oh, there are trees at the back of that dogleg, do I risk driving into them... zap... 320 yards... OK, I can go at it!" or "... 260 yards, hum... maybe a hybrid or 3 wood would be safer". It's also rather useful for lay up strategies. Like you're 290 from the flag on a par 5 second shot, you're probably not getting there in one, so what do you hit... If you like a 100 to 110 shot into the flag, then you know you should play your 180 yards club. Really quite beneficial.
I use mine for all yardages. Let’s me know a great layup yard, or how far to end of a dog leg or to a bunker or hazard, etc. it is not just for landing on the green pin high, although that is a bonus on shots to green. I also have the Bushnell app, but it doesn’t know where the pin is. Want to layup 100 yards from the pin on a par 5? The app can be off many yards vs. a good range finder. I also have a Bushnell range finder….those cheap ones are slow and hard to get the pin and I’ve found those to be significantly off. Your mileage may vary.
I noticed the Milysee USB for 125 has another manufacturer with the same range finder but in yellow for **80**.......just checking they're the same then they can take my money!
I bought one "cheap" laser 2 years ago. Rechargeable, is super accurate and the battery did not need recharging since I bought it. So perfect for GBP 70
Would love to see a test like this on a field or somewhere you can measure out a specific distance as a standard and compare both. Perhaps a local athletics club, who would also have long tape measures etc.
For your average golfer, +/- 5 yards when it's over 150 yards isn't a big deal. Especially when you have plenty of free GPS apps for your phone or watch to give a basic reference at a glance as well.
I always used a GPS watch. Then when I got down to 7 handicap my mates convinced me I needed a laser. As I am tight and the Mrs would go mental, I bought the cheap Frazer G2 but it is not reliable at all. I am back to using my 8 year old Garmin watch. If I had the money though I would deffo buy a Bushel laser. Sometimes it just pays to spend money on quality, just sometime though.
I'm new to golf so there may well be an obvious answer to this question but why would anyone use a range finder? There's a tonne of apps you can download on your phone that will give you a live yardage for the course that you're on. It's an easy way to track your rounds as well
I know you trust the Bushnell implicitly for yardages but some of the "cheaper" models are companies getting into the golf market coming from the shooting markets...they need to be accurate too but for me a gps system is better by far Why? 99% of golfers have zero chance of being accurate to 3 yards and if they are which 3 yards will it be..the Bushnell's or another system If you have a bunker or hazard you need to zap that and everything else you want to take into account for your shot. One look at the GPS (also accurate to 3 yards or less) and i can see front middle and back of the green bunkers streams ponds etc etc etc. The other plus is how many people think if a flag is 125 yards away that you need to fly the ball 125 yards. You almost definitely don't...you might want to avoid that water at the back of the green and play to the front or vice versa...if you hit it 125 yards and the green is firm it may bounce and go 8 yards past...maybe the green is receptive and you fly it 125 yards and zip it back off the front of the green. And gps comes in so many forms...watches phone apps (I'm not a great fan of these but some people use them as they are cheap/free) or small devices you can carry in your pocket or clip to your bag or trolley etc. And yes i have owned 2 Bushnell's in the past but will now only use a GPS. Imo cheaper faster better 👍
If you are getting your distances on the range with the cheaper laser then the actual distance won’t matter because you should be judging your distances off of what you are ranging in practice.
If any of us can actually consistently land a ball within a yard of the other at 175 yards plus chances are we have a caddy measuring the yardages for us.
The cheaper version seems fine, even with a difference of 3-5 yards. However, how do you know which one is right? My brother and I have our own Bushnell range finders but my machine is always 1-2 yards short of his. Mine is older so I just assume his is slightly more accurate so when I get a number I add a yard to the results.
I got one a little cheaper (£60 so closer to $80) has no flag lock but is rechargeable via USB - which is handy because my electric trolley can recharge it mid round if I forget beforehand
Great video buddy. I bought exactly the same one a few months ago and I'm impressed with it. I use Golfpad tags so I have GPS to confirm it but I think it's a great bit of kit for the price.
Shouldn't be the question, is the extra in quality worth 4/5 of the price? Put some pressure on the business model the brand models have. Let them become more competitive. It seems to me that their prices are on the overpriced range of life.
My rangefinder is my caddy. She's sexy, knowledgeable and a lot more fun than a Bushnell. If she gets a yardage wrong we have lots of joking and a good laugh about it. Somehow having a chat with a Bushnell doesn't have the same appeal.
Sadly Tony, TH-cam is a numbers game and after working in it for 5 years. It’s hard to argue with statistics On a Large scale. Apologies it annoys you. Simon.
Bushnell are a rip off! I've a cheap Chinese 'knock off' that's been spot on for 3 years. The inners are all made in China. Golf clubs cost pennies yet cost us hundreds.
Bought a set of clubs in a pawn shop. In the bag was a Bushnell hybrid range finder! Works perfect. Best deal yet!
Dagg yo

I've had my bushnell range finder for 10+ years. Seriously, I'm 28 now and i got it when i was like a 16/17 year old
Thanks for watching guys! Hope you have a good weekend! 🙌
Hi SAS Golf, where can I buy the hat your wearing with the dog logo? Thanks good channel
Got a Bozily range finder 2 hrs ago for £55. Has slope and lock on capability, carry case and 2 batteries. Very accurate and great value for money

Hi Simon. I always use Amazon Basics CR2 batteries. Currently 6 for £14.
Last for at least half a season playing 4 times a week.
That’s a great tip to know mate!

Which model?
@@captainsnake7406 Boblov lf600g. They sell at eBay.

GOGOGO Sports Range finder has slope and was under $100 US dollars. Love it
I got a cheap one off Amazon and it's been awesome. It's rechargable via USB so don't have to worry about batteries
Would love to see a test like this on a field or somewhere you can measure out a specific distance as a standard and compare both. Perhaps a local athletics club, who would also have long tape measures etc.

I know you trust the Bushnell implicitly for yardages but some of the "cheaper" models are companies getting into the golf market coming from the shooting markets...they need to be accurate too but for me a gps system is better by far
Why?
99% of golfers have zero chance of being accurate to 3 yards and if they are which 3 yards will it be..the Bushnell's or another system
If you have a bunker or hazard you need to zap that and everything else you want to take into account for your shot.

It’s a good point to be fair mate, tough to know which is more accurate without pacing it out. And even then who’s to say you paced it out right!
@@SASGolf you could use "the wheel" and figure that out. I'm sure you know what the wheel is. (us older guys used them before range finders)
@@SASGolf seems like a lot of work though...
Lazer batteries , cheapest source is Screwfix ,£2.79 each
I bought one that works great off of Amazon for $100 Canadian.
Great video! For a ousy golfer like me 3 yards give or take doesn't often matter! LOL!
Tasco T2G. $70 on Amazon and is the the same company as Bushnell.
I got a PeakPulse for £70 and it's as good as any £400 range finder
I love my Boblov with rechargeable battery. It was $100 two years ago, felt like a steal back then.
Well if it does the job mate, still is a steal 🙌
I got one a little cheaper (£60 so closer to $80) has no flag lock but is rechargeable via USB - which is handy because my electric trolley can recharge it mid round if I forget beforehand
@@justinstephenson9360 I do like my flag lock, might be worth the extra.
Simply paying for the aiming stability on the Bushnell.
I personally now have a GPS watch, and wouldn’t ever go back to a laser rangefinder.
Got a £60 rangefinder works just fine.
I got one from Amazon for £89 and got £15 voucher with it. Works a treat and does what any other laser can even has a slope setting! Bargain
It’s great value can’t lie.
@@SASGolf I always take at least 2 measurements and compare them to my watch lol
As a high handicaper-buy the cheap one, spend the money on a pro to improve your game
Hi Simon. Love try precision pro rangefinder. Think you be very surprised 👍🏻
Great video buddy. I bought exactly the same one a few months ago and I'm impressed with it. I use Golfpad tags so I have GPS to confirm it but I think it's a great bit of kit for the price.
You’re assuming that the bushnell is accurate?
I tried a mates range finder and just can't use them, I wasn't steady enough and kept seeing my eyelashes 😂 stick with my Garmin GPS
I use tectectec decent no vibration like
Good stuff, thanks.
I got a millessey off Ali express for £30. It's not anywhere near as good but it's good enough
Well there goes £60 for me 😂 watched this video, then went straight to Amazon to order one
Shouldn't be the question, is the extra in quality worth 4/5 of the price? Put some pressure on the business model the brand models have. Let them become more competitive. It seems to me that their prices are on the overpriced range of life.
AO'far?
My rangefinder is my caddy. She's sexy, knowledgeable and a lot more fun than a Bushnell. If she gets a yardage wrong we have lots of joking and a good laugh about it. Somehow having a chat with a Bushnell doesn't have the same appeal.
If I'm over 200 yds away, I probably can't get there 🤣
Bushnell and the name brand companies always RIP people off as much as they can. This tech is so old as well.
Worth a punt, cheers Simon. I need to stop watching your channel as I always seem to end up buying something lol....
Haha sorry😅
You pay extra for the name "Bushnell".
👍👍
Stop asking people to subscribe and put notifications on, I’ll never do it if you tell me to just put out content and let us decide
Sadly Tony, TH-cam is a numbers game and after working in it for 5 years. It’s hard to argue with statistics On a Large scale. Apologies it annoys you. Simon.
Check Amazon now.
Just did pal, I still see the deal mate. Anything wrong?
The other way is find out which investment banker cheated on his wife and got caught. You get all kinds of good stuff that way.
@@SASGolf just kidding.
Batteries cheaper at Amazon
Nike balls? Like it
Haha, found it in the boot and went, you will do 😅
Watching the aim shaking is one of the most frustrating things I have ever watched
Bushnell are a rip off! I've a cheap Chinese 'knock off' that's been spot on for 3 years. The inners are all made in China. Golf clubs cost pennies yet cost us hundreds.
I would buy the cheap because if you was really going to use a range finder it’s just me I would use it on my second shot
Just goes to show you dont have to spend a fortune
Just get on with it. This is 5min video with 6 mins of nonsense
I may purchase this cheaper range finder for a giveaway 🐊🏌🦅🇺🇲
