    What is called "Overlanding" today, was called "Off Roading" when I was your age, lol. Most every level of trail difficulty, except rock crawling and mudding. Back around 1990 my friends and I explored almost every Colorado Fire Access Road, trail, Pass, and River Crossing in the state. I had an '86 4Runner, my buddy had a '69 Bronco, 2 guys w Blazers, the wives, and kids at our sides. Such good memories. My sons (6 and 9 at the time) grew up, and both own 1st Gen 4runners, and to this day say that their favorite childhood memories are from the trails. All my buddies from that period gave up off roading for boating, a sports cars. Me ...2 jeeps, 2 troopers, and a Dodge Raider later, I'm still on the trails. Stay safe, great video. Cheers.

    What a amazing video....I thoroughly enjoy every minute of it. The views gave me chills....I can't even imagine how beautiful it was experiencing those views and surroundings in person. My wife never really saw her Gen 3 as a off road vehicle when I always try to tell her...she was left Wowed. I have been talking about making a trip like this for about a year now of experiencing the trails in the mountains...this video made her understand why I want to soo much. Thank you.

      Hey It's About FAM, so glad you enjoyed it and that it helped her see why you want to take that trip. All we can say is DO IT!! You are correct this video, as much as we tried, still doesn't compare to what it's like being there, sticking your head out the window and seeing that view live. It's UNREAL! Thanks for the comments and hopefully we'll see you out there on the trails someday in that Gen 3.

      ARB Old Man Emu is a good choice. On my '06 Gen 3, I ran Lovells springs, Bilstein 5100s, and 285/75R17 Patagonia MTs. Andy and Jeremiah both run similar setups. Andy's is on OME and Patagonias, while Jeremiah's was on OME and General Grabber X3s.

    • @drivenoverland2012

      No. Neither of the Gen 3's have the butterfly valve assembly removed. They can be serviced to minimize failure over the long-term by replacing the bushings and adding some blue loc-tite to the assembly screws. - After all the original bushings usually last about 15-years. ;-)

The Gen 3s are both cool in their own way too, having IFS/IRS with a really slick trailing arm design that was the result of Dakar Rally engineering.

    How much mechanical work went into preparing your Pajero’s?
    We’re these low mile SUV’s?

    • @drivenoverland2012
      @drivenoverland2012  4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Each is a little different with mileage ranging from about 100k to 219k. Maintenance has just been routine catch-up type from fluid changes, to replacing old alternators, timing belt jobs, etc. Modifications haven't been too wild with just Old Man Emu suspension on all three lifting them about 2-inches and set on 33" tires, skid plates some bought and some we fabricated, ARB winch bumpers, and roof racks we fabricated as well. The Gen 2.5 has a pretty extensive build thread located here:

    I'm seriously thinking about a Montero Limited(2002-2006?) for my first rig. My research has shown me that they perform well and are reliable. Plus I like to be the underdog. What things should I consider before buying one? By the way, I plan to drive it from the Dallas area to Colorado Springs where my daughter lives to go on some trails up there. One of my concerns is breaking down on the way and not being able to find parts in stock.

      Join the Mitsubishi Montero USA group on FB, or if you don't have FB check out Adventure Driven Designs and their forum. Additionally, you can look on Expedition Portal under the Mitsubishi build threads and find a ton of information about them. They're reliable, capable, comfortable, and parts aren't hard to find.

    What is the tire size on that 2.5 Gen Montero?

      They are 285/70R17 General Grabber X3 with 4runner Trail 17" wheels. I'll be shooting a full walk-around on it for my personal channel before too long.

      @@WhittakerOutdoors ah I see. I think in this video it looks like you are rocking the factory 16” wheels. Im curious, what is your opinion on the GDI model Gen 2.5s from Japan? Not worth the hassle?
