Hey Woody, Nice driving! Low range in the Paj only disables stability control (ESC), not Traction Control. And the beeping is a warning that the electric Hydraulic Brake Booster is running low on pressure from all the brake applications through constant use of traction control. The internet will have you believe it's an overheat but it's not. Eventually it just emits a constant beep when it is fully out of pressure and disables TC at that point. If possible you just pause for 20 secs and let it recharge. TC equipped Paj with a 2" lift is a lot more capable than most will dare give credit for.
Actually Woody, I wonder if your pump motor isn't a bit lazy. You can swap the motor out without changing the whole unit. Can also service them - bearings and brushes.
Just finished the first 9 minutes or so, just Woody then Al up that first climb, Woody shows a lot more emotion. Al is cool as ever. Sketchy as climb and you can tell they're both like scared/worried, but in that good way. You can tell they both are just PUMPED doing it! Really getting the blood flowing! Looks fun as.
Found this on the PajeroForum: "The beeping sound is not TC overheating as such, rather the warning buzzer (loud beeper) that tells you the pressure in the hydraulic brake booster (HBB) is very low. Each time the TC activates the brakes, a bit of 'pressure' is used up - and at a faster rate than the brake accumulator pump can replenish it. Extensive TC causes the pressure to drop to a low level (beeper comes on) and warns you the brakes are close to failure. Simply wait 5-10 seconds while the HBB pump recharges the brake pressure and it will stop. If you have ABS, you'll usually hear the HBB pump run for 2-10 secs when the car starts as it charges up the brake pressure. (quiet buzzing sound from rear drivers side of engine bay) If you want to hear what the warning beeper sounds like, (from memory) you do it by starting the engine for about 20 seconds, then stop it. Put it back to ignition on (but don't start engine). Pump the brake pedal about 20 times fairly quickly (i.e. in 10 seconds), and you'll hear the warning beeper come on. If you keep going you'll suddenly feel the brake pedal go hard - i.e. brake failure"
Sabretooth Barnacle Would the brakes being slightly uneven in their thickness add to that problem at all and run havoc with the wheel speed sensors ? I only ask cause i noticed on telegraph hill the wheel speed was going kinda mental when Woody had air and kinda put two and two together.
@@someyoungguy6990 I'm guessing the more time the wheels are in the air in a fixed time scale the quicker the brake accumulator will empty. I have no idea how the system works on the Pajero but I'm guessing when a wheel comes off the ground and free spins with the other wheel on the accompanying axle being nearly motionless the ABS unit realises this and starts to apply the brakes on the free spinning wheel in an attempt to divert the power to the grounded wheel. Given diesels use an auxiliary airpump to create vacuum for the brake servo the constant triggering of the braking system via the ABS is emptying the vacuum quicker than it can be created by the pump. So the only way around it is to minimise the free wheel time/fit a locker/simply wait a few moments for the vaccum to reestablish/modify vacuum system for quicker recovery?
I know my lx470 does the same thing sometimes and petrol v8 normally up an extended climb. Bang on about the system, applies brakes to simulate traction on free wheel to get drive to both. It just heats whole system up. And just have to give it a few normally. I broke a wheel speed sensor and haven't bothered replacing it because i prefer no traction control. If your vehicle starts applying brakes while trying to get through muddy sections at speed can spin you around real quick.
@@no88o2 Thanks for clarifying, glad I got that right. I noticed on the footage that the system allows the vehicle to come to almost a full stop before it tries to correct so I'm not that sold on this method for maintaining constant movement when 4x4ing. I guess an old skool locker or more modern e-diff with lightening fast reaction times are the way forward. Either way the Paj (and Woody) did a very commendable job!
Woody, 1st gear low range and let it crawl. Low range only disables ESC, not Traction Control. It actually switches the traction control into an offroad mode. When you start to lose traction, feed it MORE power. That's how the traction control in Pajeros works, they'll start to brake the spinning wheels harder and feed that power to the wheel with grip. Should barely need to be touching the clutch. Takes a bit of getting used to but it'll go up just about everything.
I love how Allan is never phased by anything, always the same facial expression regardless of whether he is wrenching on something or going up a 4wd track on a gnarly angle
Hey woody, when descending steep tracks, 1st gear low range foot off clutch, feather brake to just control speed. You will find this will help avoid rapid uncontrolled descents.
"People are gunna get hurt feelings when they realise the Pajero is actually a good 4wd". Us Pajero owners have known that for ages. Very under rated and capable vehicles with a decent price tag. Low ABS pressure. Instead of a vacuum booster these use an electric pump to build brake pressure and traction control bleeds this pressure off. Have tc going too long and it beeps. Keep going and it squeals and turns TC off. Pressure builds again and you're good to go.
This was absolutely epic boys!!! Thanks a lot for taking us along!! I’ve even started looking at the market for a Pajero or patrol. Shame it’s silly money lately haha

In Woody’s case I think some new shoes for that Pajero are in order, so much spinning around 😂
A little known secret to 4wding that most people work out eventually is to try to always keep the front axle level especially if unlocked. Keep the front level and you'll have drive to both wheels. The rear will then follow a very close line. Another is to use the clutch like a light switch, ON or OFF, nothing in between. If it wants to stall use more revs, a bit of wheelspin won't hurt. Have fun.

Awsome video! Wasnt expecting over an hour long feature so was a treat to sit down to this arvy! Go the paj! Hey Woody. When going down a steep hill don't use your clutch. Looked like you had the clutch engaged in a couple of spots when the Paj took off down will. Keep it in 1st low and use the brakes to scrub off speed. If you need to stop then stall it with the brakes or switch off while still in gear. To start keep it in gear and start it as you ease off the brake (gravity will help start it as the engine will start to spin as car moves). This is a much safer way of driving down steep hills. A rear locker and reduction gears will really transform that Paj into an offroad beast. I think the Pajero has a 1.9:1 reduction ratio and the Patrol has 2.02:1. Both could use reduction gears when in the really steep stuff.
Stock vs stock a paj is hard to beat but damn Al the Cummins beast with lockers is weapon. Land cruiser park is awesome did a couple of trips there on expo weekends along time ago great fun

1/4 of camp road in high range, i was cringing i could smell the clutch through the internet.
Both Al's Patrol & Woody's Pajero are weapons. Awesome driving from everyone!
Awesome episode the sliver td wagon made it look easy
That Cummins sounds soooo good.
Mean video loved the fact it was long makes me want to get back in to wheeling
Awsome video! Wasnt expecting over an hour long feature so was a treat to sit down to this arvy! Go the paj! I'll no longer talk so.much shit about them haha just before you put it in low range and thought you were gonna fry the clutch in the first km I was yelling at the tv to chuck it in low haha did bloody well both you and am for not having a heap of experience on the hard stuff like this too!
You guys are a lot like us Canadian offroaders. Blast to watch.
I love how Al's looks so unassuming until you hear it.
Gotta give to you guys. All of ya. Built it and used it. Awesom. 👌
Great video guys... the Pajero kicked ass Woody!!! Have to say Al's Patrol ruled though. That thing is a beast!!!
Al's Cummins Patrol is an absolute beast just ticking over the whole time
Loved the 4WD action, great footage and all the rigs. The real Paj turned up late!
Love the ladder goat reference at 29:33. What a throwback
Liked the 4wd episodes, and can't wait to see more street car craziness! :D
Watched 6 minutes and was overcome with anxiety 😂
Stock vs stock a paj is hard to beat but damn Al the Cummins beast with lockers is weapon.
Land cruiser park is awesome did a couple of trips there on expo weekends along time ago great fun
Get Vlads Traction control mod, and a nautia engineering switch panel for the pajero! :)
Whats the traction mod?
It allows to run the factory rear locker with traction control
@@Ethan-pv9gq thats mad! Cheers mate
Or get a landrover discovery 2
@@dazzleyd I owned one 6 months ago, just before I bought a paj…they are a completely different kettle of fish, and not even the same type of 4wd.. so a fairly average comment made by you.
a HOLT PRAWN ! sick thats a mate ! glad to see you boys on board with the swim prawn !
Yeah man I went to school with James, swim prawns for the win
@@theskidfactory sick ! got lots of good time's with James and the boys ! those prawns work a treat too aye !
that red SWB pajero mk2 is awesome, and woody's paj was waaaaay more capable than I would've ever expected!
Awesome show lads !! Loved it, Al bigdog is a beast, Woody that Paj is not a bad bit if kit either ! Great job !
Skid Factory - Campsite Skin Care range of merch. Brilliant 👍
Al's rig sounds like a military vehicle.
The Dirty Pajero is a good 4WD. Toyota 79 owners are going to cry when they find out how much they cost :)
Pretty impressive for zero lockers, a stick, and traction control stepping in. Sick wheelin, boys
You can certainly tell when the lemon squash courage kicked in.
that cummins just walks up leisurely, whilst poor woody will be getting discount on bulk buy clutches :D
probs the first 4x4 adventure ive watch right through. I would also like to see a high speed test of your car lol.
And the under rated Pajero gets the job done, that was epic
Great video just a tip keep your thumbs on the outside of the wheel sounds silly as we’re always taught thumbs inside the wheel but when the steering flicks can break your thumb
I'm gonna hear that *beep beep beep* in my sleep, I'm sure of it... bloody traction control
How good is off-road TC! The Paj doesn’t even need lockers!!
Locker makes it ten times better though.
None of that spin then grip, it just crawls up...
Keep the 4wd content coming kings, better than the other channels that come to mind
... and next week on the skid factory we'll be rebuilding woodys clutch, breaks and installing a set of lockers
"What are you doin for dinner Al?"
Getting Blind!
Such a fun episode! Very impressed with Woody's effort in the Paj 🤙
Mitsubishi engineers must be so proud to see this
Freaking love this content, my two favourite yt watches 4wding and TSF combined. How good!!!
Momma says all them Solid axles are so angry cause they got all that articulation and traction aide and still can't pull away from the Pajero
4 Low on Paj disengages ESC, not TC ;)
