Porsche was whining about it. Like they do every time they start losing. Bmw met the rules and their car was legal, and Porsche wasn’t happy. And then magically a couple years later the rules changed so that they had to make more street legal versions of the cars than bmw could afford to make. I think Porsche probably had an hand in that.
This was their one and only instance of whining, BMW put an engine in the race car before the road car was made, which is the opposite of what Porsche did

The dauer 962 went very great, the 97 GT1 wasn't much great on le mans, and the 98 GT1 did great just because mercedes didn't build a car that can last 24 hour. well of course if your competition was not following the rules properly and winning because of it you'd start whining. not that it matters now. porsche is still the king.

Porsche is a bit of a different league past the centrally placed engine, but compared to competitors Audi, Mercedes or Lexus, BMW has been making better sports cars for 40 years.
I hate to say it but this was probably the only time BMW beat porsche... with E46 GTR obviously, a car I'd pay millions to have. Oh well at least Germans are the kings of motorsports😏💪🏼☝🏽🇩🇪
I ironically won against Razor's BMW M3 GTR with my gold-painted Porsche Carrera GT the first time I finished *_NFS: Most Wanted._* I didn't know that in real life, it was the other way around...
They were supposed to make 10 street legal card for the M3 GTR, but they only made 6, 3 of them were ever sold.....and we played as the guy who gets one, that too the race version in nfs most wanted.
May have retired in most wanted but god dam modding communities and any form of customization we can get with any m3 series we will keep this beast alive!
