You have seriously reduced my level of anxiety as a student and aspiring data scientist! Thank You so much and keep sharing the relevant content! Inspires me to start my own yt channel ;)
Number four, "You make more money with experience" The only way to get five years experience is to do Data Science for five years. I'll have that in about 5.1 years. For those of us at the start, what kinds of prior experience count for better income? If someone already has 20 years experience in science, marketing, finance, software development, or whatever does that help? Physics and astronomy are especially heavy in statistics, making mathematical models to fit data that's sometimes gappy with outliers. Then explaining the results to non-scientists. I'm sure biologists, geologists, and all other scientists can say the same. But does that give us career switchers a boost compared to a fresh college grad with a DS degree or someone with two or three years in a DS career? What about having spent thirty years as "2nd 2nd Assistant Broom Watcher"? Is my life all for naught, all those thousands of hours standing in the janitor's closet? :( Or seriously, what about a decade or two or three in some other career, not science or math heavy, not software or database related, but a good career relating to business, medicine, education, sports. Does such subject matter expertise help with a better start getting into DS?
Jesus Christ. I get excited at my $15,000 bonus every February and hearing these numbers makes me want to shop around some other companies. Thanks for the video.
Love your video! Can you talk about MS in Data Science for someone who doesn’t have background and try to switch career into data science? Some people say it’s easier to break into with MS in CS rather than MS in DS. Thanks!
Great synopsis of your journey. Would love to hear about specific hard skill sets that help you land those jobs. There is quite a bit on the topic but each one seen has insights worth noting. I am transitioning in and studying statistics but have domain knowledge in education. Also, I see Ken Jee was here! He has a great channel.
Just wondering, how much work experience will you need to get an entry level data scientist job? Did you need an internship experience at the same company or at a company in a similar field of work?
how much did you actually save out of this, as living in bay area is quite expensive..... wanted to know so that i can roughly calculate how much years its gonna take me to recover my education loan
Hello Jay or anybody who is reading this comment, I need your help. I have been an analyst/junior data scientist in a relatively big company as a part-time contractor getting $25 for almost 3 years, and just graduated with my DS master with a 3.9 I worked in a support role for projects that dealt with NLP, classification, and forecasting, but my main job is data cleaning still. The company I am working for doesn't emphasize heavily on data science since they use dashboards/BI software a lot, so I don't think I will get a long-term position in the company as a data scientist. I am not super smart like getting medals on kaggle, but still able to build some relatively accurate models. I applied to many remote jobs across the state and plan to ask for a 70k since I live in a relatively low standard of living state. Do you think is easier to get a job if I aim for a lower salary? I don't need any sponsorship btw
Can I be a data scientist? I am a graduating student this year as a BS Statistics student. What should be the next step to do, as an aspiring data scientist 🥰
Do you have a way we can privately communicate with you? I have questions, I'm almost finished with college and I'm trying to become a data analyst or a data scientist but I wanted to chat with you take care
Hey guys! Thanks for watching and here's a few more data science salary data points: www.interviewquery.com/salaries/data-scientist-salary
Thanks for being honest and giving real numbers.

The new setup looks really good! :)
Love how you go straight to the point with your videos and then follow it up with informative details!
Love the new camera Jay!
love the couch squeak in the beginning! also, this is such a dope video. way to be fully transparent about a usually touchy subject.
Hope your youtube channel blows up. Keep up the good work!
Maybe talk about office dynamics? Like interesting anecdotes with coworkers, or watching decisions play out by managers, or big projects you did

The problem with Data science is that companies have different descriptions and some interviews are easire thatn others.
important life lessons+interview prep series
Thanks for the transparency, great video Jay!
Love this guy! I would like to see a video doing analytical comparison of wlb for companies in the bay area
the sincerity got me
Insightful stuff! There might be an unneeded apostrophe in the title "Data Scientist's make" love these honest videos.
I am a business analyst II with 7 years experience making $90k. I am hoping I can get into data science starting at at least $95k with my experience.
Great video Jay! Love homework straightforward you are!

Thanks man for keeping this so real.
Very insightful, love the honesty
Valuable points jay👍thanks for sharing your experience!!!
Great video! You definitely deserve more views.
Are these figures across the US, or mainly inflated due to the high cost of living in your area?
Just wondering, how much work experience will you need to get an entry level data scientist job? Did you need an internship experience at the same company or at a company in a similar field of work?
Internship helps a lot or just working in tech / industry in a comparable field like data analytics, finance, acounnting, etc..
Appreciate it Jay.
Outside of direct Data Science skills - what other things do you think people should be learning to grow in their careers?
Social and business skills!
Did you have any internships in college? And is this for directly after undergrad or after a graduate degree?
I did a ton of internships before graduating. By far the best thing you can do to land an actual job!
Excellent Insights! Can't agree more:)
I’m new to channel and love the content! ,
Did you attend post graduate schooling or worked directly out of undergrad?

Don’t tell them your salary expectations first. Let them at least tell you the range they have. Good luck. Just keep applying. You’ll get it
How did it go?
Hi, I am wondering if you could give a video to tell us what data science do on the job. What are the thing you like and dislike ? Thanks
First guy who is staright to the point
Great video :)

Hi jay i had a question, are there internal transfers for data scientist in big tech companies
Yes I think so! Depends on how nice your manager is

As a Data Engineer, I definitely know that a Data Scientist makes a lot more than me lol
What's the difference between u and the scientist
