I sang this song to my mom the night before she passed away in hospice, and my aunt and I listened to it around her just after she passed. This song reminds me of when I told her it was okay, she could let go now. That she didn't have to be in pain anymore, I would be okay, I just want her to be free. She passed 5 minutes before I woke up the next morning on a cloudless, beautiful sunny day. I know James Taylor had his son, singing on stage + later his wife joined him. ..He seems at peace + happy. . Loved the concert ❤ Still great after all these years ❤
James Taylor sang with a mellow voice of love, being your handyman, Sweet Baby James, you’ve got a friend, something in the way she moves, etc. But he abandoned his young wife for two, really three, mistresses: the regular kind, heroin, and staying in the UK to record for two years, leaving Carly and their young child alone at home in the US. He later said about his absence that they married too young. Didn’t admit his failures to her and his child. TA two-year absence from his wife. Two years away from his young child. I think he may have been younger than two years old when he left. She was all in for the marriage and supporting her husband’s career; he couldn’t be bothered to support her, and hasn’t spoken to her in decades. Carly left him legally because he left her physically and emotionally. Sad and tragic. You’d think he’d own up to what he did. Nope. But he sure has a great voice.

people only possess such an intensity of attraction to people who are emotionally unavailable and unreciprocative. the degree of the attraction is directly inversely proportional to the aloofness of the object of the attraction. the intensity of attraction immediately diminishes if it is proportionately reciprocated.

I agree with you. Life for me is close to the end. But music can take me back in a flash to my youth and all the memories come crashing in. Kids just don't get it...until they are older. and it's a blink of an eye.
I dedicated this song to Mark Alan Niehaus who died of a heroin overdose at age 40 in 2006 he is my oldest son's Father. We were Highschool sweethearts. He was a very talented guitar player and a good friend.
I had the great pleasure of meeting James Taylor at a friends house once. I could tell he was a very deep person back then. I wondered what his great sorrow was. That sorrow or deepness is what made his song writing so darn good. Love ya sweet baby James!
One of the best music videos ever. Intimate, informal setting. Carly's genuine look of love. Taylor's guitar magic and THOSE VOICES. Carley's voice dancing on the harmonies. I can't think of two people who sound better together.
@JameTaylor-xl1yx First of all, thanks for responding. It is an honor. I live in Brazil, and have followed your art for over forty years. I've always been moved by musical expressions that use just a voice and a guitar. This simplicity and purity of showing a beautiful song, most likely the way that it was born. Thank you for giving us this moment, and thank you for all the music that you brought to my heart.

He already scheduled for next year - god willing it happens God willing all the lovely souls who also had tickets will be there with me I know my mom will be with me in spirit
Right now we are rehearsing this song for my fathers funeral service, listening to this breathtaking version over and over. Hard to not start crying.... Thank you so much James and Carly for your perfect inspiration.
I think this is best version of this song Ive heard, their voices are prefect together. I've heard James perform this with others and while that's been nice, this is sublime, and I keep coming back to it. It's made more poignant by all that subsequently happened.
I was a studio guitarist for many years. This song sounds so simple to play, but in reality it is a true challenge to play correctly the way JT does. Such a talented songwriter of course but he does not get enough props for his guitar work- same thing for Paul Simon and Glen Campbell; these guys could really play- not just write (Simon) and sing...
Glen Campbell-everyone knew he was amazing-if you are over 21. No one ever beat him-and he played everything well. Guitar, bango, mandolin, ….any stringed instrument .

My mom really loved James Taylor and this was a big song for me when she died from an inoperable brain tumor. It’s 6 years later and here I am watching the same video from those painful days. Remembering and thankful for your grace. 💙
@holeypeacoat My Mom loved James Taylor too. She died when I was 21 of a brain tumor as well. That was 30 years ago and the pain of that experience changed me, as I'm sure it has changed you. I used to love You Can Close Your Eyes when I was a little girl. And I love this version with Carly Simon. My Mom used to play the song Sweet Baby James on her guitar and sing. My sister and I called it Mom's Cowboy Song. I can still remember exactly the way she sang it, so beautifully and uniquely. I don't ever listen to James Taylor's original because I don't want to ever forget exactly the way she sang it.
James guitar playing while singing is just as amazing as the vocals. Sometimes it's best to hold on to the great moments and let the bad ones just fade away. Everyone has regrets but you gotta just keep on truckin ...
And what's so amazing is James Taylor's guitar arrangements sound so clean and simple, but you just didn't pick up a guitar and play them. So many of them are complex beyond belief.
Happened upon this many times, tho today, I sat, listened and watched. The simplicity of this rendition is what frames the perfection. No stage, no audience, no massive sound systems, no make-up or costumes and fancy lighting. Just the quiet of the relaxed corner of a messy room...next to an open window. It's the melding of the moment, the time, their love, their comfort, their youth, their voices mixed together as if poured from two separate vessels into one as they mix and swirl to that perfection. Exactly as the song should be sung....as many of us have...to our children, our loved ones.
My son was born prematurely in 1987, 24 weeks gestation and weighing 21 ounces, and has been blind since birth as well as Cerebral Palsy. I used to get up in the night and care for him while his POS mother slept, rocking him and singing this song to him. It was a rough beginning but I still cherish that time I spent caring for him, and this song brings back those memories. Thank you JT and Carly for such a wonderful song.
This is what love looks like and harmony sounds like. We now know he hasn't spoken to her in 35 years. Whatever happened to the marriage, it was one of the best musical collaborations of the 70"s and certainly the best of their respective careers. I love them together.
Lana - unfortunately for Carly, it was strictly a one way street and she was the only one driving. She said James was only affectionate to her when he was high on something, otherwise, he was ice cold and distant. I saw them both live in Honolulu in 1973, and he barely acknowledged her onstage. He chose the dragon over this amazing woman, and its changed my entire perception of him. It seems he's a self involved cold hearted prick, despite his mellow facade. Throughout her traumas with men, Carly has been vulnerable but of strong inner constitution, and loved by her millions of devoted fans worldwide.

people only possess such an intensity of attraction to people who are emotionally unavailable and unreciprocative. the degree of the attraction is directly inversely proportional to the aloofness of the object of the attraction. the intensity of attraction immediately diminishes if it is proportionately reciprocated.
These are two stellar muscians!
young...beautiful...deeply in love...
we've all been there...
makes your heart soar and breaks it at
the same time...
i cry every time i watch this video.
This is how I choose to remember them together. Beautiful performance...
It's great that these moments were captured and recorded. Her harmony is magical with his voice. His guitar playing is always moving, along with his fingerpicking style. No one sounds like him. Really glad I found this. Thanks for posting it.
The closest to his music is Jim Croce
Exactly what I wanted to say! The only imperfection is that it’s not a verse or two longer
This is him now and it's as spectacular. th-cam.com/video/TNjHk9Y36u0/w-d-xo.html&lc=Ugziih63GRONkyp4Bq94AaABAg.98O-3I95bol98Ri8gWsKG-
Agreed. Another minute even with a repeat verse would have been perfect. But at least we can still view this. He probably had written it recently before, and they were still in love.
Well said and stated. Maybe it was the time. When people played real instruments, sang and performed.
One of the ten most perfect duets ever sung anytime, anywhere, by anyone. Just so gentle and perfect.
God she had so much love in her eyes for James--what a gorgeous video.
He looks at her once........smh
@@zitaschuessler4902 You're right. I noticed that. Her eyes sparkle and she smiles when she looks at him, and he just looks like he wants to get through the song.

Just saw James in concert last night at the Hollywood Bowl. He and his son and the whole band were amazing.
The two of them together sound (and look) so beautiful! Chilling.
Could there be a more expressive look of love on a woman's face than when she sings in harmony here? Angelic, beautiful and pure of heart. I've known a few women in my life, and none of them looked at me the way she does at him.
каждое существо хочет любви и счастия
но оно возможно в полной мере только для людей с чистым и добрым сердцем не очерненных пороками
если у тебя было уже несколько любовниц то такое счастье тебе уже не доступно
My god I would die to have a woman look at me with that much love and devotion
it's beautiful to see two young artists doing what they love best, and in love with each other...they eventually split up but must have been really great when it was good. I guess this is as much as you can ask from life and from the gods :)
Beauty, youth, and talent in a rare combination. What a wonderous moment in time.
I can listen to this song over and over. So beautiful. You see how much she loves him.
Hello Kim
Yes, Kim, she absolutely loved him then... I saw it too..
@@frandanco6289 and then she divorced him.
@@dianaford7635 I think acknowledges his shorting coming as husband and a father in an interview with an Australian TV
Just saw James Taylor in Cleveland
Phenomenal + rich and magical
I grew on James Taylor + Carly Simon
Still sounds fantastic
Wow
Young Carly Simon was one of the most beautiful women I’ve ever seen
1977 seems like years ago yet it was only just yesterday I was 17 . Everything changes yet things are still the same.
In my heart everything is the same
I agree with you. Life for me is close to the end. But music can take me back in a flash to my youth and all the memories come crashing in. Kids just don't get it...until they are older. and it's a blink of an eye.
@@lorenrobertson8039 so true!
@@lorenrobertson8039 it ain’t over till the fat lady sings 😂
I am your age as well & feel the same way.
The perfect song. No need for four letter words or special effects. Just two very talented people singing something special right from the heart.
I dedicated this song to Mark Alan Niehaus who died of a heroin overdose at age 40 in 2006 he is my oldest son's Father. We were Highschool sweethearts. He was a very talented guitar player and a good friend.
So sorry Aimee. For your loss take care of yourself
Those eyes Carly gave Simon those madly in love eyes. I've seen those eyes before such a beautiful song 🎵
Talk about goosebumps.
Those 2 are powerful.
I had the great pleasure of meeting James Taylor at a friends house once. I could tell he was a very deep person back then. I wondered what his great sorrow was. That sorrow or deepness is what made his song writing so darn good. Love ya sweet baby James!
What year did you meet him? Was he married to carly at the time?
Being that his father was a prominent physician, I suspect it was difficult for James to not follow the same or expected footpath. 🤔
People who are profound thinkers, especially ones of higher intellect, seem to be prone to mental challenges more often. It’s unfortunate.
James Taylor is such a fine guitarist. His syncopation is wonderful.
The look of love in her eyes is something beautiful
Agreed
she may have loved him but they both cheated on each other the whole time they were together
Memories. An amazing pair of beautiful musicians ❤❤❤
That was a beautiful duet.
One of the best music videos ever. Intimate, informal setting. Carly's genuine look of love. Taylor's guitar magic and THOSE VOICES. Carley's voice dancing on the harmonies. I can't think of two people who sound better together.
This is something completely pure!
I’m here again, December 2020
James Taylor is therapy for me
At 48 I was a 70’s baby
My mom loved James Taylor -
I grew up with his music
We always wanted to see him together-
Sadly she died a couple years ago
I was supposed to see James Taylor this year..
He already scheduled for next year - god willing it happens
God willing all the lovely souls who also had tickets will be there with me
I know my mom will be with me in spirit
Spooky Vegan, yes and all of Heaven will be watching. 😇🕊🌫
🥂 For Carly & James... Greetings from Guayaquil - Ecuador🇪🇨
Right now we are rehearsing this song for my fathers funeral service, listening to this breathtaking version over and over. Hard to not start crying.... Thank you so much James and Carly for your perfect inspiration.
Sorry for your lost amigo , bigs hugs.
🙏🙏
I think this is best version of this song Ive heard, their voices are prefect together. I've heard James perform this with others and while that's been nice, this is sublime, and I keep coming back to it. It's made more poignant by all that subsequently happened.
Smiles, hi Suzanne
I agree - they sound great together. It's my favourite version of this song.
She looked at him with so much love they were a living poem....
Glen gets full recognition for his guitar work! th-cam.com/video/ETkzK9pXMio/w-d-xo.html
I was thinking that as I watched his fretwork. So smooth, easy and natural, you gotta be good to do that.
Glen Campbell-everyone knew he was amazing-if you are over 21. No one ever beat him-and he played everything well. Guitar, bango, mandolin, ….any stringed instrument .

A friend told me once, it is not a simple as it seems, this song, as well as Mockingbird. Mockingbird, he said was a lot trickier than it seemed.
My mom really loved James Taylor and this was a big song for me when she died from an inoperable brain tumor. It’s 6 years later and here I am watching the same video from those painful days. Remembering and thankful for your grace. 💙
So sorry for your loss.
@@ilovemusicnia thank you for this heartfelt reply. 💙
this song brings tears to my eyes, everytime. I miss seeing/hearing these two sing together. Their love was real. Life happens....
The good old days. I miss that time
Same! It is so boring now.
I loved these two my entire youth. Seeing them like this, so young, takes me back to a time when I loved so passionately!!
I always thought this was a match made in heaven. Two beautifully talented souls in union. Sad so many great things don't last.
yeah = :^(>
Those good things got their times.
I always sang this song to my daughter at bedtime from the time she was a baby. It will always be “our song”! ❤️
That’s just beautiful 🤩 your the best mom ever 🥰🤘👍🌹🍀😇🙏
I bet she turned out great. God bless you.
Sure you did.
those two in their Prime......what a beautiful couple.... the woman of your dreams for most men who were teenagers in the 70's
Listented to this sweet song since I was a teenager, i'm now 66! Still love it! God bless you James Taylor for all your music! 🎵🎵
I sincerely hope you son has a happy life in spite of his disabilities, and that you have a fulfilling life
They sound amazing together. Just two voices and an acoustic guitar. With talent, that's all you need.
Truly the eyes are the mirror of the soul.
James Taylor is one of the most amazing guitarist, singer / songwriter / legendary performer of all time! Carly is also amazing in her own write!
Just bought tickets for a concert in the Netherlands to see JT early next year. And then stumbled onto this gem. So wonderful.
This has always been one of my favorites.
What Brilliant guitar playing. Of all songwriters, I think his songs capture me more perfectly . It is as if he read my mental diary.
This is the best version of this song ever they were amazing together
What an amazing guitar player he is..
This is what love looks like and harmony sounds like. We now know he hasn't spoken to her in 35 years. Whatever happened to the marriage, it was one of the best musical collaborations of the 70"s and certainly the best of their respective careers. I love them together.
L
heron, james was a major addict.
I believe they still have a fondness for each other, from interviews I've seen of them both.
Love this song, and love the video. Simple and pure harmony between the 2 of them. ❤ Perfection !
Just beautiful. I always return periodically for a listen. ❤🎶
It's INSANE how beautiful this song / duett is.....
.
What a Beautiful song...Still brings a tear to my Eye...
Wow. What an incredible song sung by two incredible talents at a special time in their lives.
An exhibition of perfection for me.. absolute class performance. I keep coming back and will continue to do so
Agreed, @kgman7359 - absolutely perfect. 🤩
Two beautiful talented people, brilliant. Thanks.
Wow..just saw this rare video of jt and carly..brings back me memories..😢thank you for the link..❤🇵🇭
