@@TomoFujitaMusic Been "playing" for nearly 50 years, never any good (my son though is a jazz player for sure)....l Iearned by ear...never "got" jazz...own lots of high end guitars....hobbyists mostly....never paid for a lesson...never learned theory......NOW at 58 years old...I'm fixing to get an Eastman T486 tomorrow and fixing to pay for my first guitar lessons....via Guitar Wisdom! I'm tire of dabbling on the guitar, playing in secret.... I want to get respectable at guitar and learning jazz from a master is my ticket. Thanks Tomo....your site (and John Mayer, believe it or not) has reinvigorated me.

I am 69 now and started playing when I was 17. I learned classical guitar at school and always wanted to play blues and jazz. Now I am retired I think I have time to finally do some practicing again. I think you are the teacher in these styles that I was looking for. I will sign up for your classes and order your new CD as well. Love your channel. Thank you.

Hi Tomo! i'm a self taught guitarist, and i never got the chance of attending a former music school (though, i can improvise and learn the basic theory, and mi guitar blues skills are good enough for me), so the gift of having someone as you teaching me guitar is a blessing, in all the meaning of the word. I want to send you a hug, blessings and a thank you from Mexico. Thanks!

@@TomoFujitaMusic Well, I've been playing since I was 14, had a couple of bad experiences in music to keep going, too much bad memories. I feel like I'm crawling again relearning even what I tought that I knew and now finally feel that music is great again.
I have bought a semi hollow guitar and in love with jazz.

You're right there is no need for tablatures ! I watched your video on triads played on the 3 high strings and played around over there. I noticed that when playing an F chord using the the D shape, if you flatten the third you have Fm and can then go to C using the A shape it sounds so so good !
Thank you for teaching me how to have fun learning music on the guitar ! :D

What I’m saying is that I appreciate how Tomo doesn’t put a jazz standard book in front of you and say, “Alright, today we’re learning this.” From what I’ve seen, he mostly teaches short 8-bar progressions and excerpts from his own songs. Basically A7 Is the dominant of Dm so it resolves really nice to that Dm7. You can apply that not only here but in other chord progressions.

    Thank you for this video!
Are you strumming all six strings while only playing triads? Do you have a video on the muting techniques you use?

Excellent as Usual Tomo; when you solo should you use the chordal scale like you just play the chords Not a scale?

You mentioned that the Ab played in the melody is the "Flat 5" and also the "Sharp 11" ? For the chord of C major isn't the flat 5 a Gb? And the sharp 11 is an F# - But the melody note is an Ab or a G# (enharmonically). Isn't that a sharp 5? I'm a little confused. Oh, I see you are talking about for the D7 chord and not the C major chord...

Depends on chord changes. For blues... dominant 7th... b5 .. but you can also call #11. Like 6, 9, #11...

Just got hip to you! You really are a great teacher. I do have a question though. The vi scale degree supposed to be a minor 7th, right? You are playing a dominant seventh, which obviously works. I'm just wondering if it's common in jazz to trade out the minor 7th for a dominant 7th. I'm new to this, so forgive my ignorance! :)

Beautiful. How do you (or I) get the up-stroke in between the chord changes so locked in? It looks to me like you are muting on the chord you are changing from? And the muting is from the left hand too?
