Me too. Triads plus the wisdom wisdom felt like enlightenment. Completely changed my approach and attitude. I laughed when Tomo said, do everything. The do-me-so triads, the note names, the scales in terms of root/flat third/fifth, plus the geometry of the fretboard in terms of intervals (this last thanks to Tomo suggesting I focus on intervals)... not to mention hearing everything, seemed overwhelming. How do you translate one system to another? But don't expect too fast. After a year, for me it's starting to blend together. I even practice in bed, when I can't sleep. I think I can hear what I'm learned and I'm visualizing the fretboard and it feels like I'm "moving" my fingers. Tomo mentioned that he reduced his wide interests to focus on the blues. I've been using a book called Blues You Can Use. What I'm discovering is that having "songs" you can play well allows you to try and focus on all of the above while you're practicing. Your fingers can play it while your brain tries to understand what's happening and why it works. Later, without your guitar, you can review it in your head. I've also noticed that it allows you to work on phrasing. I was working on a Delta Blues exercise and having difficulty with the fingering (not given) and the timing. My aha moment came when I realized that the call and response pattern dictated the timing and made the transitions easier. Finally, the memorization is also interesting. I've listened to blues my whole life. Lots of different kinds. But the exercises aren't songs per se. So while I recognize many of the riffs and the styles, they aren't easy to remember or distinguish from one another. Because they aren't songs. The breakthrough was the phrasing. Beginning with the right phrasing seemed to dictate where the phrase will end. And a finger switch is easier when you realize that the switch begins a sub-phrase in the larger phrase. So much to learn. But I no longer worry thanks to Tomo.

Perfect timing for this video. I’ve been doing triads for the last couple weeks and it really, REALLY improves understanding of the entire fretboard. Instead of learning one chord over the entire fretboard I found that learning the inversions for all the chords in a key the most helpful (first inversion on the top three strings for G-Am-Bm-C-D-Em-Fdim-G). Once you get it down for one key you know it for everything. Makes it much easier to play the changes during a song. Great video. We should all probably learn triads before cowboy chords…
I learned triads today from my teacher for the first time and then I watched this video. Everything became so clear for me after watching your video. Now I can play any inversion of triad in any three strings. Thank you so much ☺☺

Thank you Tomo Sensei. I have been watching all your Triad videos, some I watch many times. Your videos are very helpful information but have also helped me to discover things for myself that I didn't expect. Students discovering for themselves is good teaching and I think the best learning. The Sensei provides the tools for the student to learn and discover, not just memorise.
Thanks for making learning guitar more understandable. I played for more than 12 years, before ever even learning triads, although I "knew" all 4th chords and that stuff (mostly just full 5 to 6 string chord shapes). Now I'm trying to learn the inversions of 4th chords, and triads as well! It seems like a big project to learn all that in 12 keys, and feels kinda rough, but as you said, you don't need to go and learn this in every key right away! I guess it would be wise to learn some basics and start with an easy key and learn to visualise the chords. I've now been practicing using different degrees of C major with triads and their inversions, and it feels great. Not trying to just memorize what the shapes are, but utilizing them in a musical way makes a lot more sense and puts passion into playing, and at the same time it is hard work like you say :P. Stuff like this is actually useful and you can use it to create something beautiful and learn to see even more on the instrument with new tools. But they need to be practiced first before it coming up in playing. These videos are good motivation and give perspective for learning, as I am studying a music degree with electric guitar as my instrument. So thanks Tomo!
Great videos. That fender neck is in serous need of fret refinishing. That would also clean up and restore the wood on the beautiful fingerboard as well.
It is a pleasure to follow your channel and of course your lessons and tips for learning the guitar. You are a very pleasant, calm and outstanding teacher and an excellent musician. I wish you good health and success in your future work. Greetings from Serbia.
Love your Lessons mate 👍 you always give me a smile on my face😁 your energi, humor, and love for music is a great inspiration for us musik theachers out here. Keep up the good work🤟
Thank you! Very generous of you! By the way, regarding your logo, I don't know if you did it on purpose or not, but I just noticed that it looks like the face of a Dairuma Doll, with one eye painted. What will you do when you get your wish? 😉 P. S. My wife is from Kyoto and I've been there many times (married 22 years). Not since c19 though. I miss it. My favorite place to walk is up Kuramayama with my father in law. We can barely speak to each other, because of language differences, ...but enough. Hiking is a good activity for us to bond with less talking. Music is like that too! Thanks again. Robot 🤖
My question about the neck is what are you saving it for?! Ha. I learned the pentatonic shapes up the neck, then the triads, then i was able to see the caged/ full key shape. Then modes and now im stuck on how to change things around to make them more interesting🤯
I have a few parts for vintage Duo Sonic & Musicmaster. Took me a long time to forget those 5 pentatonic shapes ! Learn more intervals, triads, inversions so you can play freely! Thanks for watching!
Hello Tomo! I'm a bit confused.. Should I learn each chord individually and then incorporate this practice afterwards? Or is there another way you recommend me to learn these triads? When you refer to the triads as "root position", I'm assuming that I need to know how to play these chords vertically and horizontally the fretboard. Is this correct? Thank you for so many of your informational videos!! Looking forward to learn more from you!

You're very welcome! Thank you for sharing! Thank you so much! Good job! More lessons are at my Guitar Wisdom.

Wish I had a teatcher like you. This is fun to do, exploring, triads will also aveal if a guitar is good or not.
Thanks so much! Now you can join my Guitar Wisdom
Great videos. That fender neck is in serous need of fret refinishing. That would also clean up and restore the wood on the beautiful fingerboard as well.
Thank you! Thanks for the tip!

"Don't memorize, get familiar with" that resonated more than a Gretsch Honey Dipper🙌🏼
Thank you so much! If you memorize ... it frozen!
Thank you for this. I never learned the basics, I just figured out how to play the things I enjoyed, but not "what" it was I was doing.
You're welcome! Thank you!
Thanks for the lesson 🙏 I love the joy and wisdom in your teaching 😁
Glad you enjoy it! Thank you!
You are amazing Sir, I only wish you would demonstrate/play something that incorporates what you have taught at the end of your videos. Play it Tomo!

"Don't ask why....because easy" - Tomo
Best advice I've had in 10 years!
Thank you!
Thank you! Very generous of you!
By the way, regarding your logo, I don't know if you did it on purpose or not, but I just noticed that it looks like the face of a Dairuma Doll, with one eye painted. What will you do when you get your wish? 😉

Thanks so much!
Great lesson on so many levels! Thank you.
You're very welcome!
I like the tone of your guitar with the flatwounds. Nice to try something different because not many do haha
Glad you like it!
Thank you for sharing! No problems! Simply you need to study!
You're welcome! Thank you so much!

Don't expect too fast!

Thank you so much!
@@TomoFujitaMusic this is true wisdom
Awesome baby!!!!🫵🏽👍🏽
Thank you!
Dear sir!
I absolutely understand your idea in this lesson.
But I wonder that how to control and remember the tone of another key or chords. There are so much flat and sharp note in another key such as E major or A major, etc.
Thank you a lot. 🙏
Good job! Learn different keys & other triads super slow! Not so hard to do! Try a few different keys first.
Wow lucky are your students, here in France there's maybe good teachers but the last one for me is from belgium (a good man who play with scorpion,i've Seen pictures ),just to say it's not easy to find a teacher so dedicate to his students that's when we see how lucky are people who learn music at Berkeley ,after all you have one of the best guitarist of out Time with a grey guitar 🤣🤣 who studie with you (sorry for all faults i don't talk and wright english very well)
Thanks for sharing. Easy to explain the material but it's hard to translate that into each personal level of understanding on each material/subject with a little more interesting way... Thank you so much! Your English is good!
Thank you so much Tomo
You are very welcome!
Great insight for viewers. I would get a poor grade right now. But I'm starting to get it. thanks again. Great lesson😎. BTW Very nice "61 Paul". T
Glad it was helpful! So happy to hear that. This was a part of actual Berklee private lessons. Thanks so much! I love this 61 Les Paul SG
