I remember in the early days it was like some kind of a badge of achievement to be able to drink as much as anybody else. I was more influenced by buddies than personal anxiety or depression. Anybody else go that route?

I remember my peaks of alcoholic behavior how I thought I was rugged and tough drinking like that and being able to get up and work. So dumb. A lot of my favorite musicians, writers and artist were alcoholics so I thought I was following in their footsteps but I didn't create nothing but a lie in my head that I was something I wasn't.

Another great video, I'm really appreciating both of your perspectives. Again, I relate with most of it! The depths we go to feed the addiction, but I also agree that we become a better version of ourselves. I think that when we are able to come out of these dark places with our eyes and our hearts open, we become humbled and armed with a lot of wisdom. If we want them, and we can see them, there are plenty of lessons to be learned from our experiences.

      You are special!
      You’re a wise, old soul.
Now at this stage in the game for me,
it’s refreshing to see how hard you fight.
I believe in a weird way God wants to show us just how strong we are. I believe my addiction has taught me how strong I can be when face to face with Satan himself. That demon has been chasing me for 40yrs.
      He wants me bad.
If you notice you’ll have a trigger fly through your head so fast. Satans done some of those to me & it scared me.
He comes when we’re feeling secure. You’re doing so good.
Yep don’t get stuck in the rear view. Just glance
      Thanks again
Been trying hard to b mindful & in the present.
You’re helping me more than u know.

I never used to be a liquor drinker but I would drink 1-2 bottles of wine or 1-2 four packs of craft beer in one session 5-7 days a week. I recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure. I have been off the alcohol for the past 3 months and have dropped 35lbs but even though I know my drinking got me into my problem I still think about starting up again once I get back to being "healthy". I have struggled with drinking alcohol like this for 15 years.

Man I've been an alcoholic, had a long addiction to pills and opiates when I was a stay at home dad I couldn't drink like that, then I went into Adderall and coke pretty bad. It's like I've had this affair with substance abuse for so long and I've always felt like it's okay because I'm not drinking or it's ok because I don't take pills anymore... It's so messed up. I think addicts are trying to escape constantly.

I remember being in boot camp when some of the recruits in my platoon broke into our platoon gear locker to get at the mouthwash to drink. It was supposed to be used for inspections. LOTS of alcohol abuse in the military. I checked out SS's channel, he said something that makes a lot of sense. He said, "nobody's safe" from alcohol, regardless of one's length of sobriety. He recommends being, "on guard" all the time when it comes to this powerful poison.

I’d rather be alert and with it and knowing what’s happening around me. I again relate to so much of this. Especially with not using medication. I was never one to even take cold medicine. I was in a massive car accident years ago. My hips are now held together by plates and pins, my pelvis was shattered, I broke my clavicle. My lungs collapsed, as did my bladder. They literally pulled my femur out of my shattered hip with a pin. I wasn't supposed to walk again if I even lived! They had me on morphine and oxycodone all day every day. I spent two months knocked out. The second I started going to outpatient physical therapy, I asked my doctor if it would be safe to get off the pain killers. He gave me the green light, and I threw them away. (Btw, by 6 months after the accident i was RUNNING 9mph on a treadmill. 2 years later i was long distance biking)
I hated THAT feeling, but later found myself knocking myself out daily with booze 🙄
The one thing I haven't been able to enjoy is relief from anxiety. But one of the big reasons why I drank was to escape from my anxiety. I feel like a walking statistic. I never dealt with my childhood trauma, and it manifested itself as generalized anxiety. Generalized anxiety sounds so mild, it doesn't do the term justice lol but I've said it before, and I'll say it again. My base level anxiety is a level 3 lol I just naturally wake up with my heart in my throat. What quitting did for me, though, is give me the space to figure out how to live with that. I just cope better with things. Where I once tried to escape it, my philosophy now is to do what I'm capable of if the anxiety trigger is situational. If it's due to something that's out of my control in that moment, I just try to let it go and do anything else with my time but ruminate over it.
Anyways, another amazing conversation!! Can't wait for tomorrow's. Have a great night, and god bless you all 😊❤

@@Kristen10-22 hey Kristen!! Thank you so much 💞💞 I haven't been active like that in a few years, but I've reached this point now where my energy has come back, and with that the biking itch. I always loved biking. Running? Not so much. But I think I worked up to that speed bc I needed to prove to myself that I could. I was in my young 20's at the time and couldn't be told no. A great lesson though in not resigning yourself to a diagnosis! Haha also, as long as you're having a good time, who cares what your workout looks like ❤️

First off this is amazing! Secondly I don't want to make light of any addiction or anything but it's hilarious to me when LD asks Slayer a question and he refers to his drinking as a career, It's funny to me It just sounds like it's this thing that you had and you retired now from your career I don't know how to explain it It's just hilarious to me and I don't mean to make light of any addiction or anything but when somebody says you're "drinking career" makes me laugh call it what you want but yeah keep it real homies I love you all! ❤️

I've got a question. How to you prevent your adult kids from alcohol addiction? Since I've given up I cringe with every beer my son puts inside him. He's cut drinking right down since I stopped but I'm still worried about him.

That's a really good question. I talk to my children about it all the time. I try my best to explain to them how addictive alcohol really is and how much damage it can cause the body. I really need to make a video on this topic soon. Keep an eye out for it. Thank you!! God bless❤❤❤😊😊😊

I was all about the nose candy once I quit drinking with friends. Never drank again. I can’t believe how all consuming alcohol can be to some people. I get that it runs in families and has so many factors. I’m lucky that I don’t like to drink anymore.

Day 1... sigh lol. Sick and tired of being sick and tired. Got 8 months sober last year off alcohol. Trying to make more of an effort to integrate sober lifestyle into my daily mindset.
Dug the convo. Helped a lot, so thanks.

I watched a whole documentary not that long ago on just this topic. It was very sad. You see tshirts even now... walmart, target that say " it's wine oclock" or " it's five o'clock somewhere " or "wine mom" or something of that nature. It just shows how ingrained in our society it really is.
