I currently own a RAV4 Trail edition (adventure edition in the US), and am very happy with it. It is 1 trim below the TRD, but didn’t feel like the extra $2,000 was worth it for me. Hope to be driving it for the next decade , maybe more.

I own this car. The first thing I had to do is replace the fake off road tires which have only about 1/4" of tread, for the real Falken 100H tires, which are Severe Snow Rated. The stock tires are not Severe Snow Rated. Shame on Toyota for putting these crappy 01A tires on this vehicle. The real Falken tires are not noisy, and handle much better in the snow. The TRD Off Road also adds an Engine Oil Cooler and Transmission Fluid Cooler with Heavy Duty 150 Amp Alternator. Towing is double all other RAV4s to 3400 pounds. The ground clearance is only 1" less than a 4Runner!

Subaru is better as a small SUV off roader since it has permanent AWD instead of the rav4's "2WD but it can put power on the opposing tires if needed" AWD.
