    My Dad had a 51 F-1. I remember the sound in 1976. He said it was also used in buses.

    Very nice. I have an F6 I'M on and yours sounds great. Someone put an electric fuel pump on it and I'm thinking about replacing the original mechanical pump. Just need to find (or cast) an exhaust header so my neighbors don't freak out

    I have the exact same truck and engine. Did a frame off just like this and getting to the point where I'm deciding whether to do body work and paint it, or clear coat it and keep the petina.

      At that point I'd paint it.

    Ive got a 51 f1 with the 6 in it, ran great when parked many moons ago, now days just kicks and tries to start but doesnt have enough in it, think its condesor? New points, coil, plugs, wires, and cap, and condensor, has spark, and fuel and air, im thinking condensor but wanting a second opinion, and yes i have tested a couple different coils

    Beautifull job well done I have a 42 1.5ton with same motor, here in UK, but with front mounted vertical distributor same as the Burma Jeep. Where did you buy the Brass manifold nuts we have differnt threads. Any info appreciated. 👍

      Hi Aaron, glad you like it! They are good motors.
      It took me a lot of searching to find the correct tall brass manifold nut. Oddly enough, I found them at British Parts Northwest. Part number GHF262.

    Hi . They sold out of the Nut & Stud kit. I am in bed unwell atm so cant get to my truck. Can you pls tell me the correct Nut size to order a set, I cannot recall if 3/8" or 7/16" etc. 👍

    Super nice work- just a note-the carb heat shield and plug wire guide should be painted black

    • @GPW-vt3hb
      @GPW-vt3hb  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I know black is the widely accepted "correct" color for the shield. However, this engine was 100% stock (the bearings were all standard size and the crank had never been turned) and my shield was red inside and out. I didn't find any traces of black on it at all, so I decided to stick with red. I know it could have been repainted, but considering all the evidence, I believe it was red from the factory. If you look at the coil bracket you can see that it is half red and half black. Before I blasted the bracket, you could see that it was originally black and then painted red above (and including on) the mounting bolts. The original coil also had some red overspray on it as if they mounted the coil and bracket, and then gave the mounting bolts a pass with the red paint which also covered the top of the bracket.

    Beautiful job! I am looking at a 1949 F2 with the flat head six. Do you have a source for parts for the six? The flat head eight seems to have more parts available from what I have researched. I have watched all of your videos and read your restoration thread several times. Trying to do my due diligence.

      Hi Bluesman, thanks for the comment!
      When it comes to engine internals (normal rebuild items) I would go through Egge Machine, they aren't cheap but are well worth it. They can also rebuild/machine your original oil pump.

      Almost everything else I would source from Chuck's Trucks. He's one of the only vendors that caters to the F-2 and larger trucks.

      @@GPW-vt3hb Thank you so much. Now I need to find a good truck to start with. There is an F2 on the Santa Fe, NM craigslist but it looks pretty rough compared to what you started with. As you know, what you start with is the tip of the ice berg in terms of money spent on the end result. I will continue to watch your videos and read about the build of your truck for inspiration until the right truck shows up.

      Hi Bob, Egge Machine has the best parts for the 226. They aren't the cheapest, but they are the best.

    Hi I’m looking for some advice could you tell me what the pipe is for that’s running from the base of the carb to that gauge you have on the chassis. Iam struggling to connect all te pipes to the right places. Many thanks Asa

    • @GPW-vt3hb
      @GPW-vt3hb  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello,
      The that is a vacuum gauge that is hooked below the carburetor. It is only used to set the time or to diagnose the engine, it is removed after diagnosis is complete. That barb is then used to provide vacuum for the windshield wipers. If you aren’t using the original vacuum wiper motor then you will want to plug that hole so that you don’t have a vacuum leak.

      I sandblasted the frame bare and then sprayed KBS Rust Seal and then KBS Blacktop chassis paint.

    Hi sorry to keep asking questions but this is all new to me so I hope you don’t mind. Under the inlet manifold on the exhaust manifold I have what looks like a clock kind of spring which is on a rod
    Could anyone have any info on what this could be feels like there’s a baffle or something in the exhaust manifold. Any help would be appreciated

      No worries!
      It sounds like you are describing the heat riser assembly. Ford's name for it is the "exhaust thermostat control valve".
      I highly recommend purchasing an original copy of the "1948-50 Truck Chassis Parts Catalogue" dated July 1950. The "1949-50 Cars and F Series Trucks Service Manual" is another good one to have.
      The Parts Catalog will tell you what every item is, and the Service Manual will tell you how to do repairs.
      Lastly, I would suggest joining the Ford Trucks Enthusiasts forum, it is a great way to learn and reach out for help.

    Honey, will you make sure the wire on the spark plug is pushed all the way down. ;)

      They've definitely zapped me a few times. I never really understood why it took the auto industry so long for them to insulate the spark plug terminals.

      @@GPW-vt3hb Mine was a 5hp tiller engine when I was a kid. After I finished tilling the garden and being the einstein that I am reached down and grabbed the top of the plug instead of pushing the metal tab to ground out the engine. Lesson learned that day. That was the first and last time that happened. So when I see a spark plug uninsulated it reminds me of my teeth chattering. Beautiful job. She's a beauty.
