This video broadly covers the restoration I conducted on my 1950 Ford F-2. All work was done in house minus the actual machining of the engine block. The truck is completely stock with the exception of a period turn signal switch and harness. The restoration was conducted from January 2020 - February 2021.

This video is a photo compilation of my 1944 PE-77-D Signal Corps Generator restoration. It is rated at 115v DC (250w); and powered by a Briggs and Stratton Model I engine. This generator ran very briefly before the connecting rod seized on the crankshaft due to oil starvation from a clogged oil pump. At that time I decided to do a complete restoration of the generator and shipping crate. I als...

    The Flathead 6 was the first 6 Ford had since Pre-Model T days. It was a Long Stroke of 226 cid, and I think it's likely that since it was identical to the Continental Red Seal engine, that Edsel and Henry had a license or some arrangement; Willys~Overland Jeep Wagons and Pickups used the Continental engine into the late '50s. Built, whether Ford or Continental, like the Proverbial Brick Sh*t House 😂. IHC had its own Green Diamond line-- same idea. Chevy's OHV Stovebolt 6 never even had a pressurized oil system! GMC had that but Chevy didn't until the 235 came out.

    Wow beautiful job. I'm starting the same project now with my son, 100% stock build. Same motor 226 6 cylinder H motor. So far a lot of internet research. Can you recommend where I can buy a 226 engine rebuild kit? Thanks a lot for your help.

      Hi Eric, I appreciate it! I highly recommend Egge Machine for all the internals. Parts are hard to come by if you are piecing a kit together. Egge isn’t the cheapest, but the quality can’t be beat. I also sent the oil pump to Egge to have it machined and rebuilt.

      Hello, sorry for the late response. Depending on what I needed to find, I bought from quite a few different vendors. The main one would be Chuck’s Trucks.

    Ive got a 51 f1 with the 6 in it, ran great when parked many moons ago, now days just kicks and tries to start but doesnt have enough in it, think its condesor? New points, coil, plugs, wires, and cap, and condensor, has spark, and fuel and air, im thinking condensor but wanting a second opinion, and yes i have tested a couple different coils

    Hi sorry to keep asking questions but this is all new to me so I hope you don’t mind. Under the inlet manifold on the exhaust manifold I have what looks like a clock kind of spring which is on a rod Could anyone have any info on what this could be feels like there’s a baffle or something in the exhaust manifold. Any help would be appreciated

      No worries! It sounds like you are describing the heat riser assembly. Ford's name for it is the "exhaust thermostat control valve". I highly recommend purchasing an original copy of the "1948-50 Truck Chassis Parts Catalogue" dated July 1950. The "1949-50 Cars and F Series Trucks Service Manual" is another good one to have. The Parts Catalog will tell you what every item is, and the Service Manual will tell you how to do repairs. Lastly, I would suggest joining the Ford Trucks Enthusiasts forum, it is a great way to learn and reach out for help. www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forum41/

    Hi I’m looking for some advice could you tell me what the pipe is for that’s running from the base of the carb to that gauge you have on the chassis. Iam struggling to connect all te pipes to the right places. Many thanks Asa

    • @GPW-vt3hb
      @GPW-vt3hb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, The that is a vacuum gauge that is hooked below the carburetor. It is only used to set the time or to diagnose the engine, it is removed after diagnosis is complete. That barb is then used to provide vacuum for the windshield wipers. If you aren’t using the original vacuum wiper motor then you will want to plug that hole so that you don’t have a vacuum leak.

    Very nice. Thank you for taking the time to make the video. A couple questions. What is the color of your truck and is it the factory color. What size and brand are your tires. They look perfect for your truck.

    • @GPW-vt3hb
      @GPW-vt3hb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bluesman, The paint is called Palisade Green, it is the original factory color of my truck. It was more popular on cars, you don't see very many trucks at all that were originally painted it. It was also a 1950 only color option. The tires are 7.00x16 bias ply. I purchased the coker "Firestone" replicas.

    Beautiful job! I am looking at a 1949 F2 with the flat head six. Do you have a source for parts for the six? The flat head eight seems to have more parts available from what I have researched. I have watched all of your videos and read your restoration thread several times. Trying to do my due diligence.

    • @GPW-vt3hb
      @GPW-vt3hb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bluesman, thanks for the comment! When it comes to engine internals (normal rebuild items) I would go through Egge Machine, they aren't cheap but are well worth it. They can also rebuild/machine your original oil pump. egge.com/product/ford-226-l6-1949-50/ Almost everything else I would source from Chuck's Trucks. He's one of the only vendors that caters to the F-2 and larger trucks. www.chuckstrucksllc.com/

      @@GPW-vt3hb Thank you so much. Now I need to find a good truck to start with. There is an F2 on the Santa Fe, NM craigslist but it looks pretty rough compared to what you started with. As you know, what you start with is the tip of the ice berg in terms of money spent on the end result. I will continue to watch your videos and read about the build of your truck for inspiration until the right truck shows up.

    Beautiful to see … Restoration to original It’s so easy to butcher these old vehicles and put big modern V8’s etc in them But original is the way ford intended them to be and they are so special that way Great to see an original flat head six in there ! Congratulations well done 👍

    Excellent job! Dandy little generators, and they don't make nearly as much noise as a modern 3600 RPM unit. Plus they'll always start once the carb is rebuilt and the fuel system's cleaned up. We've got one on the farm that will get dragged out during short power outages, usually because whatever modern portable generator is supposed to be doing the job won't start.
