Arcadia is one of the nicest access points to Peace River on your way to the Gulf of Mexico. The next good stop before the salt water is the Riverside Campground (just east of Port Charlotte. See my video about this campground). If you haven't toured the Peace River, you haven't toured real Florida. This is a beautiful run that may have manatees as you get closer to the Gulf.
The river can be shallow going north, and the water speed is pretty rapid in some places.
