- In this video, I share my round 7 chess game from the Abu Dhabi Masters Tournament against GM Robert Hovhannisyan. The game featured a positional line in the Queen’s Gambit Exchange (which Magnus Carlsen inspired me to play) followed by an intense middle game and endgame.

I got a stalemate trap over the board once. It was against a 1700 rated player and he was living on a +30 increment, it was a little more elaborate than your one, I had to sacrifice the queen but he had no way to stop it, and I got so excited I lost the ability to speak for the next 30 min and I was just thinking about you all the time, so thank you for that 1/2 point, Eric

That would have been an epic otb stalemate! I’d love to see an engine analysis at the end of these to see any missed opportunities or where you went wrong
Was following the game live online, curious to see how your QGD panned out. I couldn't work out why the clocks weren't moving and the last few moves were missing - this explains it, thanks.

Thank you for another enjoyable recap. You seem moderately exhausted and mildly disheartened, but the fact of the matter is you kept it close against an experienced ~2600 GM. That bodes well for the future if you decide to make a harder push for GM at some point. Good luck in your remaining rounds!

I agree, a dedicated series like that would be good
3 days ago, his other channel posted 4+ hours of the classical shield arena where he talks through 20 min time control games. It starts out too fast, but the opponents slow down and get more challenging later.

Well you also would expect a GM like Shankland to not break the rules by making an illegal move. So a stalemate trap could very well work!
that KRp vs KR endgame you played is a typical chesstempo endgame (for the Black side to win), which would be rated around 1.900/2.000. I have played (and solved) many of those, but I wonder if I would win such an endgame if it happened in a real game. I was quite surprised to see this chesstempo kind of endgame happen in your game.
I believe you've shown us the Lucena position on Twitch before. Very instructive but sorry you were on the losing side. Good game, as always.

One things I'm really impressed by is Eric's mentality after a loss. I'm sure there's some internal disappointment but you'd hardly know it from his recaps. It's all about getting better for the next time and that is inspiring.
And likewise, that he fought to the very end.

The position before lucena r in the lichess practice in the last practice and if the c pawn were a b pawn it would haven't been a winning endgame for black

Are there weak GM’s?
in the space of GMs yes there are GMs that hit the rating and got the norms once and so forever have the title of GM vs the ones who are 26 27 28 hundred. the higher the elo rating gets the bigger the skill gap becomes much more so than at lower ratings. so the difference between a 2400 GM and a 2800 GM is maybe the same difference between a 1200 and a 2200.
