Haha, when Anand’s wife said that he should go play (and meant the opposite), Anand replied with the top engine move (pretended he did not understand and thanked her for the love and support)
I got a chance to talk with Anand at Wijk Aan Zee during the Corus (Tata/Hoogovens) chess tournament. What a nice guy. I told him I was a fan and he took the time to chat with me, signed my book and posed for a picture. It was all very genuine. He has been a force on the world chess scene for several decades now.
Still at #11 at the time of this writing, Anand is the only player in the top 100 who was born in the 60s. Michael Adams is the only other person in the top 100 born 2 years after Anand (1971), and he's world #55.
Well, it wasn't that much of a tournament! There were only for players, one of them, Topalov, is about as old as Anand! Given Arjun was also playing, it is of course an achievement of Anand, but one that has to put in perspective!
@@blackman7186 It's not a very competitive nor taxing tournament. Anand is a great player, but this isn't much of an achievement. He is stronger than all the other players by a lot, if he didn't win it'd be a huge upset.
@@gaara888ful Erigaisi's rating is greatly inflated. He only participates in low rating tournaments and beat on low rating opponents, especially recently. The fact that he lost to Anand this time is actually quite the proof that his rating is inflated.
Vishy Anand Some facts 1. He is 54yrs old. The next most aged GM in top 25 Rapid ranking is Kramnik, aged 49 2. Anand is ranked 6th in Live ratings in Rapid 3. In top 10 list, average age of GMs are 34 yrs 4. In top 15 list, average age of GMs are 32 yrs 5. In top 20 list, average age of GMs are 31 yrs 6. He has evolved from the time of Over Board Chess to the time of Online Chess
Another fact is his nickname back in the hayday was "lightning kid", referring to his numerous wins against top GMs of the time in classic time format with using only minutes of his own clock
For Jaime Santos Latasa, you got it right except for the Jaime part. In spanish, the a vowel always sounds like "ah" and the i vowel always sounda like a double e in english. Together, they mayke an "I" sound like in the word "Hi". The e in spanish is also always prononunced as "eh". Lastely, the J always sounds like an english H (again, like in "Hi") So, his name is read "Hi-meh" No harm btw! Hope it helps!
Anand won Leon Masters with Style & Panache. He could have won it any which way, but these days Anand is playing to the galleries. He is trying to leave behind a legacy for generations to marvel upon.
Hey Antonio thanks for all the great content over the years. I had a favor to ask could you make a currated playlist of 100 games you think every chess fan should see? Hopefully drawing from all eras of chess. I am sure you already have made many vids of the games you would include in such a list. I just think it is enjoyable to watch playlists of chess to fall asleep. Just a thought...hope you are well and have a nice day
Anand seems to be still playing at the highest level. Kramnik, Kasparov, and Topalov seem to be in decline. These were the Big 4 at their primes back in the day.
I know Kramnik is a hot topic right now, but I haven't really seen that much of a decline in his chess abilities. It's just that he hasn't adapted to the intricacies of online chess, and seems to be going through some kind of mid-life crisis. I hope the best for him when someone finally gets him away from the online world and he can enjoy his life away from Chess
Kramnik is still playing at a very high level, he just doesn't play a lot anymore and went to the other side of chess and started doing crazy conspiracies. Judging by some of his online performance I'd say he is pretty close to Anand if they played in a real OTB tournament.
How to pronounce Jaime: all 5 vowels in Spanish (a, e, i, o, u) work in the same way as in Croatian, each one has it's own one sound and they actually have the same sound as in Croatian, so that's easy. The M is also the same in Spanish and Croatian, so that's easy as well. The different one is the J that in Spanish is pronounced like what could be a "harder G" sound in Croatian. But nobody will complain if you pronounce it like an English J haha #VastKnowledge
Hi Antonio. I wanted to thank you for your wonderful videos. I love how you break down the game, analyze various lines, and your voice is very calming and helps me fall comfortably to sleep.
Hi Antonio, love your videos, keep them up! As you asked for names pronunciation, in Spanish the "J" sounds like the english "h", so "Jai" is like the english "hi". The "me" is just like in "men" (but without the "n"). Hope it helps to pronounce "Jaime" in the future correctly! :)
Pure legend - I am pretty sure he'll still be in the top 10 for the next 10 years at least - Unless his wife was being sarcastic and asks him to resign right now!
Hey love the content, since you asked for it, Jaime is pronounced, using the IPA, "xaime" I believe, so that something like Ha-e-me, Ha as in harmful but a little more guttural, e as in the letter, and me as in merit.
In Spanish for Jaime, the "J" is similar to a "H" sound but a little bit stronger (unless you're from inland Spain 😆). The vocals "ai" are like the letter "i" in English and "me" is pronounced "m+eh". The stress is on the same syllable as for English.
At 54 Vishy Anand is beating top rated players who are much younger than him! Truly phenomenal.A great legend.Anand is loved for his great chess as well for his humility and integrity.A fabulous role model for youngsters and a great ambassador for chess.
I’m surprised Jaime didn’t play Rg2+ when the king was on g1 and the Black Bishop on c6 at least he would’ve gotten the draw I guess capturing the Bishop on h4 was a more ‘natural’ human move those passed pawns were scary great defense by Anand nice win Great game Thanks Agadmator
At 9:55, could Jaime have gotten a perpetual (or better) with rook to H1? With each line that I play out, he either ends up with a perpetual or up a rook.
How? Rh1 Kf2 Rf4 check Rf3 defends and that's it. There's no more checks. Black can take Re1 but king recaptures and the other rook is defended by the pawn

@agadmator, to satisfy your thirst for knowledge: Jaime is pronounced as ha-ee-meh, where the first to syllables are pronounced in one go and with a bit more emphasis than the last.
8:30 it is not clear why the white king goes up, allowing blacks to capture the bishop with check, then the knight. If the king goes down, blacks can't capture both bishop and knight.
Can someone help me here, why would king go G3 and walk into another check after pawn takes bishop on h4 and then lose the knight the next move? Wouldn’t it make more sense for the king to move to say, f2? That way if you do get checked again you can just move your king out of the way and save your knight on the next move….am I missing something?
I've been playing chess on Facebook through an app called Chess Royale. I get the impression the players there are not great. Where is a good place to play?
