i have it and its trash it has a very elevated peak in the treble which just ruins the whole frequency which makes it very harsh and not detailed at all
Great review! I like that you have a different approach than most reviewers. Do you mind QDC terminations on sets you use for work or do you avoid them? Can you review the Ziigaat Cinno an NF NM2O? 🙏
Thank you for the kind words. I don’t avoid QDC terminations, and I guess I don’t see them much lately. I do think IEM cable termination in general could be improved upon!
And yes, I can review at least the Cinno. It’s good. It’s one of those IEMS that sounds really good until you a/b compare it with something like the Doscinco. That’s what I did and there’s definitely an improvement with the Doscinco. But for the price the Cinno is solid
Nice review. Hard to leave out the Doscincos and Cincotres which are priced right between these two. Doscincos are likely the best of the bunch of you like authoritative bass. The mids and treble are balanced out and very well executed. Ziigaat are really killing it lately
Great review as always James! Just wanted to point out, not sure if your specific unit has a different tuning but for some reason your graph is the only one I've seen with the Estrella having the same bass as the Arete and a big scoop in the mids. Unit variance maybe?
Thanks for the comment. I think you’re referring to the point in the video where I “normalized” the bass of the two IEM’s at 100hz. It’s a different way of looking at graph comparisons and not necessarily how we actually hear an iem. In this case I think this IS how I hear the Arete and Estrella. I appreciate you watching and maybe in the future I can show comparisons normalized at different frequencies to be more transparent.
Different flavor. I'd assume you are coming from Fresh Reviews looking for "general" answer but its more complicated because Canon 2 is still a solid IEM and will be for many years probably but "newer" stuff come at lower cost and perform similarly and if not better in many aspects. You can't really go wrong with either, its up to you and your budget. Even if Canon 2 is marginally better in some aspects, it is not 100$+ "better" and Arete easily beats it in other aspects so its even. Go with the Canon if money is not concern and you really need the tuning switches. Personally, i'd go with Arete. I couldn't care less about tuning switches because EQ-ing is easy and you can even use Squiglink to match graphs (Crinacles Squiglink even lets you import songs so you can A/B test them).
That normalisation at the bass area is really interesting to showcase the difference
Very good review! The Nuo is an excellent IEM in it's price range.
I agree!

@@TheAudioNomad got it I didn’t notice that. Thanks for the explanation and I would love that!
Great Review!!! Thank You
Hi, which area in the mids is it scooped? People usually say that about the area between the mid-bass and lower mids.
Is the Yanyin Canon 2 worth it over the Arete?
