Thanks for sharing this video and information. I enjoyed watching your steam locomotives chasing. As a Yank it’s been very educational as well ! Drone footage was especially nice to see.
Lal Lal railway station is 1 of 10 rail buildings being restored for community use by victrack in 2022 and im a member of one of the groups that will use the lal lal station. nice video
I Really wanted to see the Y Class at Ballarat but my mom said another time. By the way this was really interesting, By that I mean the vlogging. I Like it!. 4:21 Its so cute how the Green locomotive is just puffing along to the music lol.
Just want to say that this was so much fun to watch .im stuck in a wheelchair but watching this was great .Big thanks Will for the effort you are putting in to the vids.please know that you are a real positive in a life that can sometimes get u down .
Great video! Ye guys please stay off the tracks as for it takes nearly 1-2 kms to stop a freight train that is going 50km - 120kms! By the way Will I heard that there will be a rear B class grain train going along the old Tailem Bend line!
What a shame Y 175 was scrapped back in the 1992. Arguably the most famous of the class, being upgraded for the Commissioners train and to power the Norman car. Not to mention it was the fastest Y class of the day. I didn't see any railway groups fighting to preserve this loco at the time.
I'm fairly sure it was 92 Wil. I could be wrong, someone will correct me no doubt. I rode in many passenger trains way back in the day that Y 175 was part of. Gearing was different to the others as well of course.I know they downgraded the gearing to what the other Y's were in 1980 something, as they had organised certain T class to run what was the Commissioners train at the time. Another wankfest, those trains were.. Half the time the Commissioners and their "hangers on" like politicians etc. travelled by car and returned by the train or vice versa. They had to use the train one way at least or it would have been a bad look. The train had it's own "Commissioners Conductor", who was also a qualified guard, (as most sleeping car conductors were, but rarely had to perform guards duties), and when he was not working the Commissioners train, which wasn't that often anyway, he was one of the Head Conductors on the Southern Aurora. Bit of trivia there.
@@125sloth Back in the 1970s l know that T400 was used a fair bit on the commissioners train up in the mallee area of Victoria. I don't know if this is true, but l got told that Y122 was also used.( Back in the 70s).
Peter are you sure it wasn't Y 123 instead of Y122. 123 was a regular on Commissioners trains, and was fitted out for the task accordingly, but was still a standard 40mph crap box Y class. It was replaced by the 60mph geared Y175, and you are right about T400. One of the biggest embarrassments for the old VR was the use of T class locos on main line passenger trains. The T's and indeed the Y's were not designed for passenger services, in fact the T was originally for branch line goods trains, but ended up on main lines due to a shortage of other locos, especially at harvest times. One of the most stupid things ever done with the use of T class, was having one on the Vinelander in both directions to Mildura on Mondays to Thursday nights. These Vinelanders used to cross at St Arnaud in the early morning, with the Mildura train setting back after arriving at the platform then put on the small passing loop at St Arnaud until the up had arrived. The T class was a joke, especially on the climb on the way to Ballarat. Seriously, you could have got out and literally ran faster around Ballan. Many nights you could look out of the glass in the centre door of the rear sleeping car and see the headlight of the Overland in the distance in the section behind the Vinelander. Friday and Sunday nights the Vinelander usually had a B class and it often ran 30 mins early into Ballarat. I worked on that train quite regularly. those days were great, no mobile phones, no 2 way radios, and if there was an issue the train had to either stop at a trackside telephone or you threw a note out attached to a knife or fork at a roadside station that was attended and hoped they heard it land and the station staff member called police to meet train at Ballarat. A bit of trivia there for you. When the up ran late from Mildura the train went to Spencer St the direct way via Bacchus Marsh. Normally it ran from Ballarat via North Shore back to Melbourne via the Geelong line. The days when railways were real railways...well to a degree. haha
Man I wish I’d stuck around at Ballarat to see the Y actually going! Only got a few glimpses at it in the shed. This was also a much more entertaining way to go about chasing trains for sure, I’m excited to see more like this!!
@@WillJamesRailways thank you very much!!, I’m sorry Roa so this if it’s too much but do you know exactly what song it is, I’ve been looking for the song and turns out it’s not as easy as it looks lol
Very nice video! A tiny correction: the MW2 steel trains no longer go via Robertson even if timetables/trackers say they will. This is because Qube will be taking over Port Kembla steel runs in the close future and ARTC has banned them from driving trains down the Illawarra escarpment. Living in Robertson it is a shame that we don’t get steel trains any more. Anyway I really did enjoy this, keep up the good work
Hi Will great video. I always do enjoy chasing steam trains just a few weeks ago I chased the VR R766 fresh from overhaul and gauge conversion in the Hunter valley you can also see my video on my channel of this trail. Could you please do more video like this. Thanks Angus
I'd recommend having a look "Distant Signal" and his video format. Less boring footage, more information on places, info on what the trains are and where they are going and a much more engaging pace. You've got footage don't be afraid to talk over footage - cutting back to you ever few seconds slows down the pace into boring teratory. If you are recording vocals on site make sure you hit a talking point as rambling off the top of your head is really boring.
Yeah I’m a big fan of distant signal, and that’s what got me keen to make the video. I’m sorry you found it boring. Really sorry I can only try harder in the future.
Thank you. I really enjoy your work.
Thank you Barry!
Well Doe , Good job
Thank you Milan!
Totally enjoyed this...your commentary is great, not intrusive and explanatory enough without being overly techincal. Would love to see more.
Thank you so much Gavin! Really appreciate the feedback!
@@WillJamesRailways Seems like you're in my area - would be good to maybe do some train chasing with you :)
Great video. Good to see the Y in v/line orange and grey. Keep up the awesome work.

Great video Will. Good commentary. Thanks.

It would be cool if they return revenue services between geelong and Ballarat!!
Thanks Ben! I fully agree with you on that. It seems to get floated every time there’s a local election. But still nothing!
I always have to laugh at the guys diving into the cars as it disappears out of view.
All part of the fun! Haha

Oh right! Thank you very much for the information! Thanks for watching!
Where is the promised Y class?
Not sure what you mean!
Did you see the green steam loco on the end of the train?
I think Nicolai is talking about Y127.( diesel) in the orange and grey livery Vline.
