    Hi Boomer, I love the smooth flowing curved benchwork of River Road. With the ramp you are drawn into the layout.
    I look forward seeing this piece of art evolving...

      Yes. . . It actually turned out better than I first envisioned. The sweeping curves draw the eye into the benchwork like the empty pages of a novel yet to be written. Cheers ~ Boomer.

      If it was "N" scale in the same footprint (ten feet), the whole scene would fit. In HO scale it can't be done. Unfortunately, the Barge gets the boot . . . unless I extend the approach into the other module. If I do the latter, I loose the locomotive shops and I'm not willing to let that go because it fits perfectly in the second corner. I hope that helps. Cheers. ~ Boomer.

    You construct a model for the model. Everything is so precise and the end result is fabulous, the construction, weathering, super detailing. One can spend a million dollars and their layout may look like it, others may spend a thousand dollars but make it look like a million dollars with the time, knowledge and effort put into it. Wow! Thanks for sharing. The barge could be on a rolling cart. Then you can roll the cart to your layout. Do loads or unloads. It could be like a rolling staging yard. Could be fun the model the barge. And the building of the cart could be fun too. Just a thought. Keep them coming. :)

    I'm late to the party, but glad I found your videos.
    I definitely see your point regarding highly detailed smaller layouts, which you do to perfection, even if you think there's no such thing.
    I have 2 choices for layout location. one gets uncomfortably hot daytimes in Summer, gets dusty fast, but has room for continuous running.
    The other is my living area that is comfortable all the time, less dust, but only room for a permanent straight line 11ft x 18" shelf layout.
    I love my passenger trains, being main reason for continuous. Which would still only be about 16 x 6ft.
    Doing anything 'permanent' in both areas is a bit much for my small overall space.
    I was thinking of somehow building a removeable small (8ft) switching module within a bigger continuous layout in the less favourable area.
    That module could be better detailed, leaving the 'dusty hot' remainder low detail to allow easy cleaning and at least run passenger much of the year.
    The idea being to take the switching module to a table in the living area & run in a better environment any time. (with your vids on the big screen:)
    Which would be great in Summer. I already have track to do this. Also have good (smaller) locomotives & wagons etc for freight switching.
    I'd enjoy seeing passenger trains run through the detailed removeable yard area, when using it within a bigger dog bone layout.
    Anyway, maybe others have done similar things for similar reasons. Or maybe I'm just nuts.
    Cheers from Australia. I'm still looking through your videos.

      No such thing as a small space for me. Model railroads are subjective to each individual.
      You learn exponentially more about model railroading skills when you build in a smaller footprint. This is the whole point of the "DIorama" concept. This way you get to everything sooner before you burn out on a larger unfinished layout that leaves an insurmountable trail of unfinished tasks. Cheers ~ Boomer.

      Any tool one can use is to our advantage. You wouldn't believe how long it took to position the Barge Slip in the allotted space so I could balance everything visually. One inch here, one inch there, and it would throw something else off. There never is enough space, regardless of our concept concerning the model railroad. Cheers.

    So glad I came across this channel. I'm very inspired to go smaller now. In regards to your lighting system, what is your opinion of backlighting to reduce the shadows of trees and structures on the backdrop?

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! . . . and thank you for the sub by the way! I will probably install (at a later date), some LED discs in strategic spots. Since they will be "dimmable" they should be 6000K minimum. The mains I have installed are 4000K. The 6000K discs will be good for backlighting, depending where you place them e.g. On a grove of trees, feature building, bridge, etc. ~ Boomer.

    Hey Boomer, maybe I missed this, but is your base sheet layer on top of the framing a 3/8" sheet of plywood?

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The base sheet is 3/8" Baltic Birch on 2" x 3/4" plywood frames. The plywood frames are lower grade than the base sheet.
      The actual water surface is 1/4" Baltic Birch (no voids) and very strong and light weight as I don't use plaster for scenery. I also used pink foam for filling in the base to facia voids and then covered in a thin layer of sculpt - a - mold. This way I can punch holes for trees etc, and still have a rigid surface. All water based.

I will also be adding (dimmable) Discs @ 6000K for added ambiance (photography , etc.)" below. Just wanted to share a thought. The overhead LED lights can also be on a dimmer. Hi boomer more food for thought 😎🚂 I am planning on having a train float on my top layer I see it as a great way for moving wagons on and off the layout for operations. I am trying to work out a way of building the float as a cassette which locks into the board and could be removed and slotted on to a storage shelf possibly two floats so they could be exchanged. Keep up the good fight love your work. Neil
