Guilliman is not a marry sue. He gets his ass kicked on every occasion. It's pretty much expected at this point. But he always comes back stronger. He feels like a spider man type of character.
Story of the Ultramarines during the entire Horus Heresy, really. The one thing that consistently makes them and Guilliman truly scary is their ability to rapidly and consistently *learn from their mistakes* and adapt to their opponents. Like, in the 30k rulesets Guilliman literally has a special rule that if he's in a challenge (basically a duel) against another character, his weapons skill (the value that determines how likely a model is to hit and be hit in close combat) goes up every round, and then it resets back to the default value once the challenge is over. Because he's *literally analysing his opponents fighting style mid-combat* and figuring out how to counter it.
@@FlawlessWallace3350 Pretty much, most of the Primarchs who can beat him, usually beat him within the first 2-5 blows, overwhelming him with their naturally superior skill. But if he can last long enough, he'll figure out their move set and tells and slowly but surely turn the battle around. However if you read all his fights, every time he loses (and he loses a lot), those fights are basically 2-4 clashes long. Angron? 1 brutal assault and having to do a 2-1 (he was beating Lorgar already) Mortarion in the Dark Imperium trilogy? 3 clashes and he holds his own for the first 2, then is overwhelmed by Mortarions psychic power and overwhelming strength. Magnus? 4 clashes, of which he loses in the first 3 clashes and is nearly overwhelmed, until the Sisters of Silence arrive nad deny most of Magnus strength, after which Guilliman overwhelms him and sends him packing through a closing warp portal. But yeah, he loses at first and later adapts, assuming he isn't overwhelmed first.
In all fairness the hate is less about Big Rob and far more to do with Matt Ward and the various travesties he committed against the lore, unfortunately as this true exemplar of the Neckbeard stereotype was an Ultramarine fanboi a lot of his most sins were in the service of making the ultramarines 'the greatest of them all' so although most of his 'contributions' are long since erased the stain remains and so Big Blue and his smurfs get the hate.

During the Great Crusade, while his brothers were conquering planets, fortifying star systems, and fighting campaigns, Guilliman was building an Empire. That's the difference between Guilliman and his brothers. That's why Guilliman is the only one who can actually save the Imperium instead of just fighting its enemies and that's why he is the best Primarch.
One of my favorite aspects of Guilliman is how human he is, and there are three instances that really show that. The first one was in Unremembered Empire when he walked through the portal of the Pharos device out of pure concern and care of his mother after seeing the toll of facing and hearing from Curze that Roboute was killed. He didn’t even give a second thought of what might happened to him if he went through that portal, all he cared about was comforting his mother. The next instance was during Gathering Storm, when Nurgle decided to spread a plague around Ultramar to prevent Gman from going to Terra. When he saw how his presence was curing the people infected he immediately just went all around Ultramar to try cure and heal everyone. The only reason he stopped and went to Terra was due to Grand Master Aldrik Voldus told him how he was only temporarily curing the infected and how Nurgle was just using the plague to keep him on Ultramar. Even then, Guilliman was extremely reluctant to leave his people and was ready to fully stay, but ultimately listen to reason and went to Terra to speak to the Emperor. The last instance is my personal favorite in which is when we learn about his retirement plan. Now his retirement plan isn’t to be some grand statesman or to rule over Ultramar. His retirement plan was to leave the delegating and ruling of Ultramar to his sons, while he retired off in the country side working on a farm. While the most other Primarchs had grand ideas for their retirement or didn’t even have one, Guilliman just a nice, peaceful and humble life as a farmer. Simple and yet human at the same time.
@@xxcambr04xx you must’ve not read the lore…. G-man, broke that Elf for her bread. He got the elves, dick whipped. The elves simp on him. They revived him. They sent emissaries to beg for an alliance after realizing how powerful and intelligent he was. Once they realized he was not just physically better and a better warrior but unable to be manipulated and was far too intelligent, they went from a manipulation strategy to outright supporting him.
Rowboat is one of the Humane Primarch. Where Vulkan would save Civilians and let the Mission be damned. Where Dorn would finish the task despite the lost. Gorillaman knows how to balance the two and learn from his mistakes. His rage is always justified and somewhat realistic for someone who has to be stern at all times for what his own existence represents. He knows he needs to get things done, but he also knows that it is never going to be easy. Especially after a blink of an eye, the Imperium the Emperor created for Humanity suddenly turned upside down. Lion got 10k years of sleep and self meditation for him to look back and stomach his past actions. Guilliman just basically Blinked after being cut by a Daemon Fulgrim. He is technically... the right man at the Wrong time.
@@simonmills8863 how does the satirical-turned-halfheartedly-serious nature of Warhammer relate to a TH-camr naming their cave dweller juice after human bodily fluids?

Guillman's true superpower in regards to the Empire is that he is an able administrator who doesn't put his ego over the needs of the Empire. An Empire is as good as it's beaurcracy. Doesn't matter if you have a million legions and a fleet of thousands of ships if you can't get food and fuel to them.
I get why Lion fights Angron. It makes more sense to me. Angron wasn't a bestiality entity out of his pod. Lion was. Angron learned to be a savage beast like how Lion naturally is. The Lion learned to tame his savageness and that loyalty is its own reward. Angron wasn't savage until he got the nails and became a beast that had no loyalty. They're narrative flips. I didn't read envy in Angron's words to Bobby, I read the derision towards some high-class(rider) busybody who wouldn't understand struggle. Like the rich kid trying to hang out with the street kid.
2nd Primarch is far superior. Bro does not get the attention he deserves, absolutely incredible character and has easily the most deep and complex backstory out of any Primarch. He doesn't get much writing, but he's mentioned loads of times and had by far the greatest impact on the universe. 11th is absolute dogshit, we don't talk about that clown.
Many thought the Rangdan xenocide took out both 2nd and 11th. But i check the timeline, and turn out the Xenocide ended before 11th were found, so it only took out (or not) the 2nd. So 11th must have f up something else. The censor of lost Primarch even happen not long after the the destruction of Mornachia
Of course he's the best primarch. He is the only one running the Imperium with twenty pots of recaf and ten primarch size boxes of cig packs as he burns through them twenty pack an hour.
Understandable why so high quantity because he is in constant depression. I wonder if he feels like he just delaying the Imperiums inevitable fall to Chaos and Tyranids or genuinely believe that he can fix this predatory Imperialistic Empire?
Big G is the best. He's the only one who actually stayed with the dream that the emperor had. The rest disappeared granted we haven't seen all of the scattering. But Guilliman only got poisoned which took him out of action and when he came back he didn't disappear. There was no imperium begging him to return. He wanted to help humanity save the Imperium and the emperor's dream.
RG is the yang to Angron's yin. The Red Angel (without the Butcher's Nails and the Khornite influence) features a fiery outward demeanor concealing a sensitive, compassionate soul. In every timeline where he didn't take the Nails or fall to Chaos, he composes poetry and music when he's not on campaign. Roboute Guilliman is the opposite, a nerdish and socially awkward introvert who harbors a spine of adamantium and a fusion reactor heart. Remember John Dryden's saying that you should fear the anger of a gentle man? RG is THAT guy. Remember Andrew Bierce's saying that for every man, there's a point that he will start slitting throats? RG is exhibit A on that transformation. In the Emporer's Scheme, RG belongs to the Triumvirate of Domination with Rogal Dorn and Horus Lupercal, all of whom were assigned administrative roles in the Imperial government that they executed with unyielding will and preternatural ability.
I am the one of the biggest Khan simps. I boast about him whenever I can (eat shit Morty). I love his Primer, his legions two books, and his half book in the siege of Terra. And I love everything about his character … but yeah Guilliman is the best Primarch
@@sampier3632 Hug = Vulcan no further details are required. He is the only entity with enough wholesomeness to make hugs manifest in the grimdarkness. Blue = Ultramar = Elf lover. It is very simple when you think about it!
To be fair G-man is by far the best and my favorite. The Khan, Corax, Vulcan all are top-tier, and have ability to be the best… if it wasn’t for the lion Nerfing them So badly. It was the Lions fault the drop site massacre happened . He literally told Peter Turbo their entire plan to ambush chaos… the lion was an egotistical idiot that gets way too much credit to me for being some tactical genius. He’s a genius at hiding the truth from his loyal brothers , telling the super plan to his traitor brothers and ruining the imperium. But the Khan just like G-man saw through the Emperors manipulations and both carried on for their people. I always hated the lion and the blindly loyal Primarks because it made them look stupid to not admit the emperor was a master manipulator. K and G knew he was but they knew the alternative was much worse. Imagine how much strength it takes to stay loyal when you don’t actually believe the Emperor was perfect and our simply willing to sacrifice all that power for the good of your people. The Khan could’ve been justified in saying screw the loyalists after the massacre. He could’ve easily tipped the battle in chaos’s favor and take over.. but he’s a real one.
I find it funny that Guilliman is the only high ranking loyalist that isn’t insanely religious or just crazy on the current setting And he is the only primarch that can/could clap alien cheeks and get away with it…
I just found your channel after a friend got me in Warhammer from playing Space Marine 2. And in two weeks I can now say I have watched every single video and am caught up 😂😂
I love your style of videos bro. You don’t speed through the lore or just take this biggest bits of every lore piece like a lot of other TH-camrs do. Just honestly a really good video structure
Ultramar was Space Athens, with Robo Girlyman being Space Alexander the Great. Space Western Roman Empire is the Imperial Fists with Dorn being Space Aurelian.
More like Flavius Aetius than Aurelianus. Or both together. As with Guilliman his more like Augustus, Traianus or Marcus Aurelius than Alexander. 40K already have Alexander the Great which is Lord-Solar Macharius.
Yes. Having a normal parents always will make you a good person. Same with the primarchs. And yes Rog and Rob have the good ones. Dorn have a grandpa and Rob have a good dad (whom he likes so much that in his honour named a battleship Spirit of Konor) and good mother. So yeah. 2 primarchs without issues with their adoptive parents (except Shitperor because every primarch have issue with him)
Sanguinus had a loving parents. vulkan was raised by a blacksmith and a loving community. Corax was raised by good mentor, also sister, lots of sisters. Russ's raised by a loving wolf family (let's not nitpick. a mammal's a mammal)
Hate on Gman if you want, but if you want to see him fuck shit up with his fisticuffs and pure unadulterated RAGE, read Know No Fear. One of the more famous parts with him is literally “Man too angry to die”
The point about what the marines would do AFTER the great Crusade is frankly on of my favourite debates in 40k. Funny sorcerer man himself Ahriman of the thousand sons had a fucking Vineyard. The all powerful sorcerer murder machine literally planned to retire and make wine like fucking Picard.
given what Big E did to the Thunder Warriors when he was done with them and had a version 2.0 lined up, you could have a whole storyline where Horus's fear of going from glorious conquer to space jailer is realized. Under the circumstances Astartes were actually built for, they expect to die in war. Some legions might do alright but I'm not so sure about all of them.
@@xXx_Regulus_xXx He put down the Thunder Warriors because they were literally degenerating into mindless berserkers due to their augmentations breaking down. This was expected, given they were a rushjob that prioritized short-term performance over all other concerns - and the Thunder Warriors themselves knew that theirs was that kind of "burn bright, but briefly" deal when they took it.
I think no one else has any hope to keep Imperium intact but the Big G. Him, his ultramarines, ultramar and Imperium Secundus shows what humanity can become if they get their shit together.
Sanguineous is my fav, as is his chapter, while Corvus is 2nd and Robot Gorillaman is 3rd, tied with Vulcan. I like the Kahn, but the whole story about how he dipped-out of the setting is lame and makes him sound like a deadbeat dad, abandoning his family when they needed him most.
I really hope the next Primarch is someone like Corax or Russ. I know people want Dorn but that would be boring. We have Robute a stern, thoughtful and reliable Battlefield commander. The Lion a stern thoughtful and reliable Battlefield commander. Getting Dorn a stern, thoughtful and reliable Battlefield commander would not be interesting. Throwing someone unpredictable or against the grain into the mix would be very interesting especially seeing how they would clash with the Elements of the Imperium that Robute has been trying to manage like the Inquisition.
@@alastor8091 My vote would be for the Khan. Would go against the grain alot since he wouldn't put up being ordered around by them two. Especially since he was one of the three Primarchs that was there during the Siege of Terra. When everyone doubted his loyalties for as long as they did, he had the common sense to stay loyal.
@@MR.LMR1996 not only that, I juat wanna see an older, wiser Khan. I wonder what he'd bring to the table. I had an idea where he took Corvus' route and got in touch with his Warp side, allowing him to move even faster, and that he would be able to travel so fast across the galaxy, that he'd be able to fight Angron no matter where he spawned in his 8 week, 8 day, 8 hour timer. He'd lean into a kind of ancient master martial artist like the sword master in Kill Bill complete with long white beard.
Russ then Corax or Khan, if Corax or Khan returned it will tip some balance of the Emperiums Leadership, you got to remember both the Khan and Corax agreed on Gman breaking the legion because both Legion excel on small groups, putting russ first makes a balanced leadership, because russ kind of contradict Gman, the Legions need to return to its glory days.
He was raised by moral and loving parents noble even today. Konnor was virtually a warlord but he was a noble one and not corrupt. Terasha and Konnor shown him loved.
The lion fighting angron made sense because angron was the end point the lion was going to arrive at if the lion didn't shape up. Not in the angry way, but in the unempathetic and extremely self destructive way. The lion shaped up, and saw the echo of what could have been in angron.
I love Sanguinius and he was and probably still is my favorite Primarch...but Recently after finishing all 3 dark imperium books AND the forgotten empire book where he made imperium secundus....idk man Im loving G man more and more, Besides having the most cool and aestheticly awesome armor among all his brothers (atleast for 40k because of how much it represents the Imperium and ive always been a big fan of the generic SM power armor instead of the weirder variants of power armor) , He went through alot, he had a heart to heart with his dad before he passed on, he was level headed with his brothers when they tried to bring him down , he had to carry the entire weight of the Imperium with him alone in the far future... the loneliness the dissapointment of finally meeting your dad and he shoots you down.....i can just relate with him so much..... He is a badass not because he is the most powerful or inhuman but because he is the most human primarch.
I just wonder how much Robooty has to bite his tongue dealing with the now degenerate version of his pappys vision. It must be hard seeing how far its fallen. Also the idea of Khorne just sitting on his throne and looking up in confusion hearing his hate-o-meter beep like a smoke alarm with a low battery out of nowhere as Guillie barks at Matthew is just 🤌
Wonderful video. Always nice to see someone actually give Guilliman credit and breakdown his character seriously instead of just "haha I didn't say his name right, I'm so funny, and he's a big blueberry." When you brought up the rage of Guilliman and how explosive it is, I'm reminded of the moment in Know No Fear where he's absolutely destroying Word Bearers and wants to keep doing so but knows its not what battle needs. Likewise, there's an amazing voice over of the scene you mentioned where Guilliman loses his temper with the priest on TH-cam that I frequently go back to listen to and it really expresses how surprising Guilliman's anger is. And it isn't just Guilliman. That rage is within his sons as well. Most recently, we see it in Space Marine 2 with Chairon.
Im glad the Ultramarine hate is kinda dying down I used to hate them for 10+ years because everyone else hated them but as I grew up I was like "wait why do I hate them because everyone hates them?". A lot of their novels were great and even back then during the height of Ultramarine hatred even I and everyone loved Titus and Ventris.
Roboute started penning the codex during the gread crusade, not for the second founding, but for the ultramarines, so the may survive his death. This kind of attitude shows why is so awesome, he more than any other primarchs cared for his sons and his people
Sup bones. This is the second time I’m commenting this lol I think a cool series idea would be your takes on your primarch doubles theory you mentioned in the astartes anonymous podcast. Haven’t watched the video yet but I bet it’s gonna be awesome. Keep up the good work brother!
@@Turnil321 there wasn't even anything wrong with the War Hounds. Angron is what turned them away from their honor. The War Hounds were a great Legion, the World Eaters were forcibly corrupted.
On the offtopic side, kinda funny that the Space Wolves routed almost won their fight against the still loyal World Eaters when Russ wanted to arrest? Angron for his uncontrollable rage. The Wolves were seen as the reasonable ones when in the early Crusade it was the opposite. War Hounds were thought of organized, controlled rage and the Wolves as chaotic direction less rage
13:40 I mean there is that time he was ejected out of his ship without a helmet but was so mad he just kept going and killed some space marines with his bare hands
I hope Guilliman feels regret over how he treated Rogal after the seige. The man had the whole Imperium on his shoulders and he carried that defense. Only for his own brother to basically usurp him and act holier than thou. Now, it is he that bears the burden of this broken empire. I hope he understands the pressure that Rogal was under and that while reading the histories, he sees that Rogal saved the Imperium through his Last Wall Protocol. Proving that even in his absence, he is the Imperium's greatest defender. And no other.
His two Primarch powers are both awesome: He has god-tier accounting skills, and he's able to learn from past failures and improve himself. The latter is especially important and unique, as all of his brothers are incapable of this.
16:48 There IS a fan story that pairs them, but it also takes the what-if of “Guilliman found Angron before the Nails were implanted” It’s called “Legacy of the Red Angel” It’s pretty good, you should read it.
I personally can't choose between Guilliman,Vulcan and the Khan. -Guilliman is as near to the perfect human as can be with his flaws included cus that is what makes him human. The video is enough i don't need to explain further. -Vulcan is benevolent to a point he felt guilty for the death of an innocent Eldar child at his hand despite the immense xenophobia of his empire and the fact it was done by his insane brother not him. It was not his choice to be tortured to the point of losing his sanity. Yet that event of seeing innocence snuffed out due to injustice is the thing that brought him back from a place that no one should be able to come back from. Also just take a look at his legion and the values they share. -The Khan is smart, virtues and independent in his morality. He was very vocal about what in insane concept the empire of man could devolve to under the emperor who keep going too far into evil thinking he is doing good. He foresaw something bad. Tried to stop it as best he could and even made his legion pick up hobbies knowing it was the thing that will keep them human. That their existence as killing machine was tragic... Opposed to the end goal of keeping humanity which was the ultimate hypocrisy of the emperor. (No grater evidence of the hypocrisy of the emperor that what happened with the 1000S and the thunder warriors.) So Yeh i cant choose between those 3 that are currently alive and not the bitches of some warp entities or a megalomaniac...
at 3:20 one of the systems on the map is named after Konor, love that little detail for the 500 worlds, Guilliman loved his father so much that he named a star after him. when we eventually learn of the death of his mom, I do want it to be after he is put in stasis, I find the idea of her seeing her little boy in a perpetual second from death is very heart breaking, and have her decide to leave voice recordings for him for when he wakes up giving him hope in a better future and just words of encouragement would be pretty bittersweet to me, for even after she's gone she still gives him some advice one "what if" scenario I look at is what if Guilliman found Angron first, from what I found Nuceria is decently close to Ultramar, making it a decent possibility, and the idea of those two helping eachother and the story potential of Guilliman going weeks without sleep to try and find the cure for the nails, some good story potential there, along with the idea that "what if Angron was in stasis right before they tried getting to Terra and was the one to be woken by Cawl and Yvraine" is another what if I play around with in my head

The Thousand Sons were also prepared for the end of the crusade, with the most cited one being Ahriman running a winery, "After all, this crusade cannot last forever, and we will need to have a purpose beyond that when it is over. What will become of the warriors when there are no more wars?"

Mfs saying guilliman a Mary sue are the same mfs who say the emperor is the best character ever made
People who say that probably haven't read his books.
Dark Imperium opens with Guilliman failing, BADLY.
Vulkan Lives!
Being Guilliman is like being the only person with dining etiquette in a table full of orks that eat with their hands
When I learned he has a Mom and actually cared about her, I was sold.

Guillman's true superpower in regards to the Empire is that he is an able administrator who doesn't put his ego over the needs of the Empire. An Empire is as good as it's beaurcracy.

@@alastor8091 My vote would be for the Khan. Would go against the grain alot since he wouldn't put up being ordered around by them two. The lion fighting angron made sense because angron was the end point the lion was going to arrive at if the lion didn't shape up. Not in the angry way, but in the unempathetic and extremely self destructive way. The lion shaped up, and saw the echo of what could have been in angron.

When you brought up the rage of Guilliman and how explosive it is, I'm reminded of the moment in Know No Fear where he's absolutely destroying Word Bearers and wants to keep doing so but knows its not what battle needs.
I hope Guilliman feels regret over how he treated Rogal after the seige. The man had the whole Imperium on his shoulders and he carried that defense. Only for his own brother to basically usurp him and act holier than thou. Now, it is he that bears the burden of this broken empire.
(No grater evidence of the hypocrisy of the emperor that what happened with the 1000S and the thunder warriors.)
So Yeh i cant choose between those 3 that are currently alive and not the bitches of some warp entities or a megalomaniac...

at 3:20 one of the systems on the map is named after Konor, love that little detail for the 500 worlds, Guilliman loved his father so much that he named a star after him.
when we eventually learn of the death of his mom, I do want it to be after he is put in stasis, I find the idea of her seeing her little boy in a perpetual second from death is very heart breaking, and have her decide to leave voice recordings for him for when he wakes up giving him hope in a better future and just words of encouragement would be pretty bittersweet to me, for even after she's gone she still gives him some advice
one "what if" scenario I look at is what if Guilliman found Angron first, from what I found Nuceria is decently close to Ultramar, making it a decent possibility, and the idea of those two helping eachother and the story potential of Guilliman going weeks without sleep to try and find the cure for the nails, some good story potential there, along with the idea that "what if Angron was in stasis right before they tried getting to Terra and was the one to be woken by Cawl and Yvraine" is another what if I play around with in my head
