  • In this video I will show you how I made this FireWood Shed using cheap basic materials. And of course I wanted to take things "one step further" by doing my best ‪@dustylumberco‬ impression by including some fancy woodworking joinery! I also wanted to share a great chisel sharpening jig that came my way from MPower.
    The giveaway has ended 😥 BUT here is a video from one of the contest winners BILL THACKER!!!

      I can’t tell you how much I needed to hear that! Thank you so much for this comment! Every time a make a woodworking video it performs horribly which is why I tend to shy away from doing them. BUT I LOVE WOODWORKING! So it’s nice to hear that someone else still want to see my Norm Abram lol 😂. THANKS AGAIN!

    You're actually meant to put them on the peaks of the roof, but not screw them down all the way, just enough to right before it starts to compress the steel.
    All the rain will be focused into those valleys and directly onto your screws making any leaks worse. causing water damage in the screw holes in the wood in 5-10 years.
    For a firewood shed like this, it doesn't matter though, just something for anyone doing something more permanent to think about.

    When I see joint work like that my mind goes back to the Japanese woodworker or those old Amish barns. Not one single nail and those structures are still standing after 200 years. I have seen similar work in using joints like that for patio covers and pergola. On a side note I only burn wood for heat. I actually enjoy organising my wood pile.

    Pretty cool design and concept. On another note, wanted to make a faux retaining wall out of foam insulation. Pretty much make the wall out of insulation and cover it with mortor or some cement so it looks like an actual retaining wall without shelling out the big bucks and time and material for it. Obviously it’s not structural. Thanks and keep up the great work.

    Woodshed looks great! My one issue is why didn't you slope the roof to the back of the shed instead of it draining rain and snow towards the working side? Seems it would be better than having it drip on you and the wood during bad weather.
    Enjoy all of your videos! Have a great day!

      make sure to have something closing off the peaks of the corrugated roof as well as the gaps under the sidewalls. clever bastards those copeperheads

  • @TheChevumn
    @TheChevumn ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks good. My only input would be the screws that you used for the roof. I understand that you don't care about leaks, but the first place that will receive any water damage will likely be the threads of those screws that you used. That may just be my opinion, though.

    To hog out all that wood I was yelling at the computer to use a forstner bit...and then you did. Thanks for listening. 😆
    If it were me, I would have used a tenon hand saw, but those require a little practice to keep the lines straight.

    I love joinery, pocket holes and screws/nails have their place but I prefer to invest time in learning new joinery that’ll withstand time. Excited you’re getting into it too! Question Michael or anyone who knows, how should I break in my nice diamond stones? They’re similar to yours, cost a lot but idk how to break them in. It said in the instructions to “Not Use Chisels” or other fine woodworking tools to break in the diamonds so what would be good to use and how will ik my diamond stones are suitable or when I can use them for my new chisels?! I spent decent money on a set and hate to ruin them

    • @MattSBailey85
      @MattSBailey85 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My understanding is the break in process is pretty quick, I think you can put an edge on your junker chisels to take off the super high edges to get them ready for the good stuff. Not super experienced on the subject though.

      @@MattSBailey85 I appreciate it, I’m very new especially to fine woodworking type hand tools and I always have that feeling of “will I break it or ruin something” so I’ll definitely give my grandfather’s rusty old planes a try

  • @belavet
    @belavet ปีที่แล้ว

    This looks amazing, however it's just a little bit more complicated than the concrete work lol. Won't be trying the fancy joinery yet, but I do need firewood storage, and definitely like the size-segregated design!

  • @Leonardokite
    @Leonardokite ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I need to build one of those. I love the overall design but it is way too complicated for my meager skills hahaha. I'll just use the basic concept and make it simple and ugly 🤷‍♂️

    I looked at several other reviews for the MPower Diamond Plates. I see that it is used for chisels and planer blades, but can it be used to sharpen other things like knives , axes, and or hatchets?
