    WOW...Thank you! Learned more pertinent information in such a short time vs. reading a D750 book and deciphering what to retain.. The only trouble I had in mirroring what you demonstrated with my own camera, I could not get my magnifying button to magnify in Live View. It does nothing. Any ideas?

      Turn camera 'on' - choose 'Menu' button - Move the cursor on the left down to the pencil, then 'a' is Autofocus. Move cursor to 'Autofocus' and your choices are below.

I shoot sports mostly and I am learning more about this camera. I need a better lens though even thought the one I have does the job I need at least a F/2.8 for this Nikon, what would you suggest?

    Thank you so much for the video. I’m planning to purchase my very first DSLR which is Nikon D750 along with 85mm 1.8 + 50mm 1.8 G lens. I’m wondering is it still worth to buy this camera considering 5 years old?.
    The concern I have is from D750 is - 1. Slower AF, 2. Shutter speed 1/4000 which is half the D780/Z6ii/Z5 1/8000. Are these show stopper for D750?.
    Purpose of buying a camera is for taking Portraits, Still, Landscape, Bird, Product photography (learning) and of course my kids.
    It would be really great if you throw some lights on my concern to make a wise decision.... other options I have considered is Nikon D780 with one of the lens and Z6ii with the kit lens... apart from D780 and Z6ii I have been suggesting to go with D850 with the kit lens.
    Thank you and looking forward to your suggestion.

    I really enjoyed and learnt from your presentation, especially as you touched on many aspects that other do not such as your custom settings,' toggle on and off'. I would use this feature since i only have one hand to make changes. One question I would like answered is how and when to use the 'flat' feature, Is this to add to the dynamic range? I love my D750 for its superlative quick ocusing, low light abilities, image quality,SIZE, etc. I also bought the versatile24-120mm f4 kit lens that I use as a walk around lens for street photography.

    • @chronocross85
      @chronocross85 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      flat feature is usually used for video because its easier to color grade when you start editing. For stills it doesn't matter if you shoot flat or not because when you shoot raw you can get all those details/colors back

    • @StuMcClay
      @StuMcClay 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +shuswaptoy The 'toggle on off' find was a great find! Although I am fortunate to have both hands to work with I prefer to keep a better grip on the camera especially with a longer lens mounted like the 70mm-200mm 2.8.

    I setup my D750 for back button focus but when I hand my camera to someone who doesn't know about cameras, I want to quickly switch it back to have the shutter release button be the auto focus. I can't figure out where / how to set it back. Anyone know?

    • @edwardrex6458
      @edwardrex6458 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure about Nikon. On Canon switch to 100% automatic (the little green box) will eliminate the back button focus setting. Likewise the custom modes can be set up to not use it, and you can switch to a custom mode.

    Focus modes are one of the most confusing things to me on all of the Nikons I have had. Your tutorial helps so much and you go through it slowly and make it easy to understand. My goal is wildlife photography and frequently birds. Can't quite seem to get the sharpness I am after ... maybe I am expecting too much or my skills need sharpening...more..no pun intended...anyway. I will be reviewing and practicing this over and over until I totally get it. Thanks so much for taking the time to help all of us...your teaching skills are excellent.

  • @beaugator
    @beaugator 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    In 3D mode it does focus in the moving towards you/moving away from you dimension. That's why it is called "3D"... up/down, left/right, and towards/away.

    • @lescobrandon3047
      @lescobrandon3047 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      beaugator - my D750 does not work with 3D focus tracking like it does with my D3, D700 and D800, and it causes poor focus and distortions. I can only use it at AF-S single point. Which makes it nearly useless compared with my pro bodies. It does work well in low lighting conditions so it resides in my car trunk just in case a nude female streaker is spotted. And great at family outings where I can get good pics of them eating.

    At 12:38 you say the 3d autotracking only works when the subject is moving up/down or side to side, but not toward or away from the camera. Is this true? If it's in continuous focus mode, isn't it perpetually checking to make sure the subject is in focus? or does it only actively focus-search if the subject moves on the X & Y axes within the frame?

  • @721MrG
    @721MrG 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Let me tell how good auto focus on D750 is. I was invited to the my brother's 18th birthday party, he asked if I can take some photos for him with his friends, mainly group and portraits shots. At that time I just switched from DX (D5100) to FX (D750 my first FX camera) and I wasn't read manual and instructions for camera. Anyway I've charged battery, placed two SD 32GB cards and coupled D750 with 35mm 1.8G FX, 50mm 1.8G FX and SB-700 Speedlight. This is what accidentally happened to me, haven't being used to use 2 command dials I have switched focus mode from AF-S to AF-C mode and also by frequent changing from photo to video mode I have accidentally locked focus points. This was all in very dim and poor light. So I was on AF-C single point and 1 locked point before kids turn off almost all of the available light and started having fun.
    For some reason AF lamp on the speedlight nor the built in illuminator DO NOT WORK in AF-C mode plus I had just 1 focus point available witch made even more harder to take photos, and the available light was non existent due to kids having fun in pitch black environment. I have noticed that I couldn't find subject trough viewfinder but D750 had no problem to deliver good and focused photos, that's how good auto focus sensor on this camera is.
    In the break time I've googled with my phone "D750 focus points not moving, built in illuminator not working" and just like that solved problem, I thought that camera failed, at least software fail or so, but it was me who failed.
    In AF-C mode, AF speedlight lamp or built in illuminator will not work.
    If you notice that you can't move auto focus points, make sure that they are not locked.

    Hi Ralfs, great video. I am trying to record video logs with my Nikon D750 using Nikon Lense AF S Nikkor 24-120mm F/4G ED VR and an H1 recorder as my shotgun microphone. I am the videographer and the subject. What I am trying to do is record myself but the problem I am running into is as the camera autofocuses it makes so much noise which is picked up by the microphone. I am trying to do on camera audio versus subject audio to reduce the post editing of audio after. I was wondering if you had any recommendations on either the best setting to eliminate the camera for constantly trying to autofocus or another way to reduce the focusing sound so it focuses quietly and the sound is not picked up by the shotgun microphone. Thank you for your help
