Funny, I bought the D750 in Dec 2014, however, I've been limping along with it in aperture/shutter modes, discovering things as I go. Just this weekend decided to "officially" educate myself. In the process, I discovered Tony and his vast resources, which has been immensely helpful. I watched all the D750 overview/unpacking/user manual type videos FROM 2 YEARS AGO. Then, ironically, I get notification of Tony's rendition. Extremely apropos! The best introduction of the D750 by far. Thank you Tony!

I know some people are just complaining about this video being too late, but just wanted to say thank you. There are still people buying the camera today(I bought it recently) that this tutorial will come in handy for or maybe somebody who's had it for a short time and would rather watch a video tutorial than read a boring manual. Thanks, keep up the great work.

Tony and Chelsea give so much to photography and the art and science that make us better. Tony is exceptional in his creativity providing for the rest of us who are under no compunction to buy anything he sells so much value for free. Yes, he plugs his work, as he should, and because he gives so much for free, I will make sure where possible I will buy so he receives a small pittance for his incredible effort at making all of us better. As a couple, Tony and Chelsea (Chelsea in other videos) are engaging and entertaining playing off each other to our advantage. Congratulation, and as always, great work.

Tony, I bought my camera a year ago, and was intimidated by all of its capabilities, and how much I don't know. I have watched this video several times, and I now feel so much more confident! I have learned SO much from this video, and I really appreciate it. Now that I am on the way to mastering the camera, I can take better advantage of my SDP book.. THANK YOU!!!

Thanks Tony (and Justin). Now that Nikon have sorted out the camera's various technical issues, and the price has dropped a little, there must be a lot of people who have recently bought or are thinking of buying one, and will appreciate your comprehensive and entertaining tutorial.

Hi Tony. I too wanted to add 'Format Memory Card' to My Menu. It turns out that the reason you can't is because you don't need to. The card in slot 1 will be reformatted if you press and hold the exposure mode button and the trash button together until 'For' shows in the viewfinder or 'Format' shows on the information display, then release them and press them together again.

Thank you SO MUCH for this video!! I'm watching it for the third time because there is so much gret information. Just bought the camera yesterday, and your video is making it less intimidating! Can't wait to check out all of the extra videos that you reference on here. The best part is that you explain so well--why and how--and make everything easy to understand; you're not talking "over my head".

I just moved up to the D750 from the D5300 and WOWWWW!!!, what a wonderful piece of hardware. This camera is freaking AMAZING! Couldn't justify the D780 and the D850.....well, I like my happy home! ;-) I went through the manual and have most of the the settings configured and remembered, but this video is still helping a lot as a refresher. I will absolutely be going to check out some of the web site pages as well. Still need to get the digital photography book. It's on my list. Ramping up this photography effort and your videos are a huge helper. Tnx

Excellent video, Tony, and I really enjoy all of your videos. Chelsea cracks me up with her humor. Really well thought out and executed as always. I've studied up hard on my D750 and you still told me at least 3 things I didn't know about this body.
I've had my D750 since August 2016, and I absolutely love it. The D750 received some bad press with 1 or 2 issues that arose, but Nikon corrected the issues. I purchased my camera after the issues had been worked out, so I didn't have to send my camera in, and my camera does not have the black dot in the tripod mount hole, so it's a newer manufactured camera, not that it really matters.
Anyone thinking about purchasing this camera, I believe you'll be very pleased with it. Lastly the knowledge brought forth by Chelsea, and Tony is extensive and brilliant. Thank you both for your contribution to photography.

This camera has a 2 button format built in for quick reformating without having to go into the menu. Even faster than going into my memory, by holding down the metering & delete buttons at the same time. Also in regards to some saying this video is late, a lot of this is similar to several of the other newer Nikons! Thanks...

You have made everything so much clearer, even down to the SD cards and how they work in conjunction with the camera. Due to lock down and rainy weather it has been sat in a case. I've had my camera for over a year. Most of the basic stuff I knew, but got some neat little tips out of this that I didn't pick up (or just didn't remember) from the manual and other sources, as well as some great links to other videos to watch. I found Tony engaging - I am notorious for zoning out when watching stuff and picking up my phone and doing other stuff, but I felt like I was having a personal conversation with someone that wasn't pretentious and just wanted to share some really great info.

I've found the camera's phone control app is great as a remote trigger, especially for macro photography. It allows you to check critical focus just before taking the shot. It's also a way to do a self portrait with an f1.2 lens and a very shallow depth of field. (This is with a Canon 5D Mark IV and the 50mm f1.2 lens)

I do use my remote trigger port, connected to a pocket wizard as part of the strobe triggering system, so pressing the button on the one I'm holding will take a picture wirelessly and fire the flashes at the same time. It adds a lot of flexibility to posed portrait work where you can get natural expressions when the subject doesn't see your finger on the camera, and lets you get super high end selfies haha

53:00 Manual white balance is useful even if you shoot raw. It enables you to preview how the final image would look like in scenarios when you combine flashes with natural light.
The same goes for picture control - if you intend to create a black&white image, the b&w profile will help you to better invision the final result.

Great video! Little mistake with the exposure modes, the one with the asterix is a very useful mode that came up with the D750 and will expose for the highlights, meaning the camera will expose for the brightest part of the image. Very useful for a sunset, high contrast environments, ... The result might look underexposed but since this camera has an amazing dynamic range, it's then easy with any editing software to bring back what is in the shadows (over exposed highlights can't be recovered in digital, there just no information, hence this new mode).
    Hope this helps. 🙂

I just bought one of these because someone sent me a Nikon lens instead of a Canon so I thought it would be a good opportunity to get into Nikon. I had no idea what this camera could do but this thing is incredible. The dynamic range is just as good as the new Sony's and it came out in 2014.. the low noise and shadow detail is incredible.. the number of menu items is shocking compared to Canon... Two card slots? It's like a professional tool.. and I was impressed with my 6d.. but this is definitely going to be my main camera.. crop mode is amazing.. I was thinking about a 7dII but after using the 77d and not liking the way the noise looks of the crop sensor and comparing it to my 6d, i had to find something else full frame. This camera is the shit..

Great video. My Nikon D50 of many years gave up the ghost recently, the cost of repair was nearly 3X the cost of replacing it with a used model. I had purchased a (used) Nikon D5100 already so just tossed the old D50 in the trash (but kept the DX lens). I recently decided to create a TH-cam DIY instructional video, but the D5100 would only shoot full HD at 60i. I then purchased a new D750 along with a referb Nikon FX lens. I intend to use the D5100 primarily for still photography and the D750 for videos. Re: Photo editing software. I understand that as a professional Adobe products make sense. At one time I had Photoshop, but they lost me when they switched to a subscription only business model. There is a free open source alternative, GIMP, that I find is as capable as Photoshop in every way. For converting RAW (NEF) format to JPEG (and many other formats as well), Irfanview is another free open source application that works very well. I have a collection of Kodak Photo CD's containing professionally scanned 35mm transparencies from my multi-decade collection. The file format is obsolete but Irfanview allowed me to convert them to JPEG and store them on a hard drive.

I just realized I was shooting everything on -4.7 exposure compensation. Ugh. No wonder I was having to adjust so much.

Excellent tutorial - thank you so much for that. I just ordered a new D750 over the Black Friday weekend, but they sold so many, I'm currently on back order. It's my first full-frame digital camera, so I'm quite excited about it. For me, it's all about 'stills', so I think this camera still has a lot to offer, especially at the price. I wasn't ready to go mirrorless - even though the Z 6 seems like a very good all-rounder, especially at the prices they were selling for, the thing that really annoyed me is the price of the Z mount lenses. They are all really expensive compared to their F mount equivalents, especially when you consider that the image stabilisation is built into the camera, not the lens. Add to this the fact that, as yet, you can't use 3rd party lenses with the FTZ adapter. I would always want the choice of being able to use, for example, a Tamron lens. The best lens I currently have is a 70-200mm f/2.8 G2 Tamron, which I use with my D7200.
    Anyway, great video, thanks!! 👍👍
Ps I'm really looking forward to buying and reading your book, sdp. Like, asap.

Thanks! ..If everytime I spend money on something you could follow up with a little 'How to..' video revealing life's secrets - that'd be well chill Tony. P.S. Can I have a job?

For people who shoot Jets,, I use my exposure compensation religiously depending type day it, because under the plane there is little light, it helps me a lot getting nice belly shots with enough light so I don't have to look at extreme shadows,, and we all know what are in those shadow areas,, No information.. I have gone from plus 1 to 3 at times.. Thanks Tony nice videos,,,

I'm planning on upgrading from a D3200 to a Full Frame camera preferably. Is this still a good choice? I'd be doing portraits mostly, landscape sometimes, long exposures, and a lot of abstract stuff. It's the price limit too, can't go any higher really.

Loving my D750 after having had it for a couple of years now. It's interesting, watching the new camera options come out, where we think...it sure would be nice to have this or that, but overall, I'm pleased. Much of what is in the D850 would be nice to have, other than the price increase of course. Back buttons lit up would be great for night photography, I certainly don't need the higher resolution filling up the hard drive with the RAW file sizes, as I don't use this camera for my career opportunities, and a touch screen would be nice, 'but' not a necessity. Personally, I'd rather put the $$ into glass (lenses) so that's what I'll do!
