I'm retired and a newbie to photography. I've just bought my first ever camera, the Nicon D750 and found this video informative and very professional. Thank you.
I have been using my D750 for almost 4 years and this is more help than I've gotten from reading and watching 100s of videos. I can't thank you enough.
Take note. This is how you do a review and or instructional. Good lighting focus and clear educated instructions. This is how you get people to take you seriously. Good work Dave.
Mr. Cheung, I‘m an engineer and have a masters degree - so I have seen and made instructional videos before. This presentation of yours is one of the best in class that I have seen. Thank you.
Treasure trove of info specially for a beginner like me. This video has probably saved me days of trial and error, reading the manual, watching videos etc. I'm sure I'll be watching this video over and over while my experience grows. Thank you so much. Keep safe and God bless.
I have been contemplating an upgrade from my d7000 to a d750 or possibly a d810 and have watched MANY video reviews on youtube and read many reviews on blogs etc. The d750 appears to be the natural choice, for me, and your video has been the most in depth, truest, unbiased and helpful from all that I've watched or read thus far. I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to make it. This camera is certainly packed with features that many others haven't touched on and the choice for me is even clearer now. I hope others on the fence about this camera come to land on your video, thanks again!
Thanks so much for the kind words franco.foto ! Truly means a lot to me and makes the effort in making these videos that much more worthwhile :) I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed with either choice, so enjoy the camera and the journey :)
Thomas Maxxamus I have an D750 and a Fuji X-T1 with 9 lenses, however the Nikon is what I reach for when I shoot people that need fast reflexes. The Fuji is a great travel camera, however.
Wow. I am in the exact same boat. I have a D7000 now and I am looking to get either a D810 or a D750. I take things such as price into consideration (DUH !!). But not just the price of the camera itself. I am referring to the CF cards that I will have to put in there. The fastest CF card that I've seen is 160MB/s. That card is $150 for a 64Gb. That's expensive when you compare that to the price of SD cards which this camera takes. The battery grip (which I have become accustomed to using, is more expensive as well. I keep flip flopping in my head about which to get. I also will need a new tripod due to the added weight of my new big lens and camera combo. All in all, I think I will most likely get the 750,but that 810 is calling me. I hate to do the same thing twice if I don't need to. Spending more money on the 810 now may be more practical for me than buying a 750 and being upset about any limitations which it may have. But at this point, I think I will have to take my chances and head in the direction of the 750. I will spend the extra money on 2 san disk extreme pro 256MB 64Gb cards instead lol
Thomas Maxxamus I was thinking of A7 II , but with mirrorless experience I have, I had to really think this through... At the end I decided to go with D750. Mirrorless is cool and fun to use, but in terms of quality and endurance, there are only two "racing horses" in the world Canon and Nikon. Not to talk about the number/choice of lenses ( without adapters / AF compatibility questions...) If someones biggest concern is weight, and light back pack only then I would highly suggest mirrorless.
Hi Dave - my wife and I are architectural photographers for luxury hotel and villas in Bali Indonesia (and surrounding islands) - we've shot with the D200, then the D7100, and we just received our new D750 yesterday afternoon - I had already found your tutorial so first thing this morning I set ours up with your assistance - wanted to say a big THANKS, and to also follow on with a God bless you and your family too brother!
Great instructional video. Now it is years later and I'm shopping for a used D 750 for personal birding photography. This video will be my primary go-to resource for essential information. Well done Dave!
I rarely leave responses to TH-cam, but I'll make an exception here. In so many ways this video has been extremely helpful. You suggest what to do (as do others) but then you go on to explain why doing it as you suggest is an improvement. I've had my D750 for half a year, and decided I would try just about all your settings (but not the back-up settings in case your hand got tired). Everything works as you describe, and it makes things easier for me, once I remember what is done where. Just a few things I do differently from what you describe now. Rather than shoot in (M)anual mode, which I still do at times, I set U1 for scenery photos and U2 for photos with people. I guess that's not such a big deal as I decided that the only way I will get good at RAW is to start using it for any photos I care about, and those settings almost always give me a good exposure, or at least a good starting point. You ended up using autofocus - continuous, rather than autofocus - single. After reading about autofocus - auto, I decided to try that. It not only does what continuous does, I've read that it attempts to focus on a person's eyes. While watching the focus point move around on the screen, it does seem to be attempting to do that. People have told me for years that I should use the back-button for focus, and it never made sense to me. After thinking about what you explained, I wish I'd have switched years ago. Assuming you're still using the D750 for lots of photo work, are there any things that you do differently for landscape type photos, or for photographing people (not weddings)? I've had Nikon cameras since the 1960's, using a Nikon SP for ages. Things sure have changed. Compared to my D2h, D2x, an D3, your suggestions allow me to concentrate more on the "photo" and less on the "camera settings".
Thanks for the kind words and for sharing your thoughts +Mike Myers . Re: landscape. I would definitely use the same settings. The only thing that may make a difference, depending on composition and aperture selection, is that the live-view may be of use for focus - for some reason if there's enough light, the live-view focusing seems more accurate. Cheers and happy shooting!
Interesting experience. I have my U1 and U2 settings based on what you recommended, U1 for "landscape" and U2 for "people". I went to a fishing village at 5:45am in India as boats were being launched. It was so dark I could barely see. The D750 would focus once in a while, but usually not. After a few minutes, i tried to turn the focus-assist-light back on, but couldn't. A day later, it turns out that to do this, I need to press the button at the left and change the autofocus setting to AF-S, after which the light worked fine. Since it won't work anyway with your suggested settings, there doesn't seem to be any point in turning it off; for me, it's better to leave it "on", so if I need it, I just change my autofocus setting to single focus.
Dave thanks a lot ofr such a wonderful and informtational video.. crisp and to the point. I have applier nearly 85 % of the settings you mentioned.... it works flawlessly.
If you are an established NIKON user and you do not have the patience to dig into User's Manual? This is THE VIDEO to watch. This is an overwhelmingly AWESOME video to use for NIKONIANS...And the NIKON newbies... In fact, because of this video, I have become more proficient with my old NIKON D300 DSLR at the convenience of my D750. Thank you Dave Cheug! Cheers!
Thank you! Thank you! I have used my new D750 for 4 sessions now and been increasingly frustrated with the autofocus and even went into manual mode because I could not rely on the auto focus area. You have saved me from starting to hate my new camera! ❤
I just got the D750 after shooting with the D700 for 5 years. I was getting super frustrated and almost ready to give up. SO glad that I found this! Excellent video!
HI!! I just upgraded my camera from a D90 to the D750! This tutorial was extremely helpful getting me all set up! THANK YOU! I hope to check out more tutorials from you!
Fantastic tutorial. Thanks so much David. Just purchased my D750 a few weeks ago and the manual was driving me crazy. You've made it simple!! God bless!!
I recently brought D750 and the information this video provided was very helpful.... thanks for helping me learn the right way to set up my D750. Thanks a lot.....
Super handy, soooo well-delivered, easy to understand, immediately applicable...thank you for this! I’d been using my d750 for a couple years now without customising as detailed as what you have shown purely because I’ve not come across such a user-friendly tutorial! Thanks for this!! 😃
I've looked at many tutorials while waiting for David Busch's book to be published on the D750. Your tutorial is the best I've seen. I commend you on being able to provide us with the information in a way that is easily digestible. What a camera! And, what a great tutorial you've composed. Thank you!
Thank you Dave for a free flowing lively to the point tutorial. you are a lovely speaker and i learned quite a bit. Camera on the way. I will be replaying your video again. An absolute pleasure.
Thanks, I followed (mostly) all your tips and used the camera on an outside shoot tonight. The set up works so well. Thank you for sharing your experience!
Thank you Dave for putting together this great settings/tips guide. I'm stationed here in Japan and there is no option for me to get an English manual here. You efforts have greatly shortened my learning curve! Kudos to you and i will definitely follow your work. Arigato!
10:54, make sure to set it to ON(Image review excluded). If this is on just ON you'll end up going through the pictures when you use the command dial instead of changing shutter speed. I had this issue at a wedding where I had to quickly change shutter speed and every time it was just scrolling through the images. Had to change it to ON(Image review excluded).
Thank you so much! I got the D750 to have a look if I like the Nikon world, and had the exact same issue. I missed so many shots because I wanted to quickly change settings but instead scrolled through images, zoomed in and what no. After playing around with the menu I wasn't able to find this setting after half an hour - I really did not expect it to be in "Customize command dials". So.. thanks again!
Absolutely phenomenal. Great content and straightforward delivery. I just bought a "new to me" D750 to shoot high school sports and these settings are a must. New subscriber from this content alone. Kudos.
My D750 just arrived yesterday. Upgrading from a D5100. What a difference in bodies! You're hitting nearly all of the customizations I was looking for in the mice-type manual. Thank you!
This is my first camera that allows me to use manual settings - your tutorial helped me so much. I did a photo shoot after watching your video and your tips and tricks made a huge difference. I can't thank you enough for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you very much my D750 arrived this morning, and your tutorial is awesome... So I will be watching it a lot until I get used to it. Thanks Have a great and Happy Holidays..
Excellant! I have had this camera for over 18 months and still gat so very confused- this are now my u1 settings- so whenever i need to i can go back to Dave's settings to keep on photoing. Many thanks!
One of the best tutorials hands down. I have two d800s but just bought a D750, so this tutorial was great to get a feel for the D750. Thank you for your time invested in this tutorial. G!d Bless as well.
LOVE it when I find a video with exact settings! I have a Nikon D5600 camera body and am renting the Af-s 24-120 lens that my buddy has on his D750. Do you think the lens is compatible to my 5600? I use it for TH-cam vids. Thanks for any advice you can give me.
THANK YOU DAVE JUST ORDERED MY FIRST FX CAMERA THIS MORNING A D750. WATCHED YOUR VIDEO OF RECOMMENDED SETTINGS AND TIPS THIS AFTERNOON COULDN'T BE MORE EXCITED TO GET MY HANDS ON IT. THANK YOU AGAIN
Wonderful video. I have little sensitivity in my thumb so moving the autofocus to the front of the camera for me is wonderful..iso trick is also very cool... thank you...Bob
Dave, I want to say thanks a MILLION! I just bought my D750 a few weeks ago and really found your tut to the point and very helpful. I don't think I would have gotten that many features regulated to my taste so quickly. My current issue is how to get that seamless look to video shots of moving subjects at about and under a 15 foot distance. Any ideas?
Thanks for watching and the kind words Chuck Hargrove. Re: Video. I find most ALL DSLR's need a LOT of help to get great, smooth footage. I'm no good handheld and bought a family camcorder just for taking stabilized video without bringing an entire tripod/dolly/slider rig around :) My video and photo gear is listed here, and the slider can be a big help if you're wanting to get pro-looking results for the minimum $$: notsoancientchinesecrets.com/?p=1633
Hey Dave, thanks for this superb video, no frills & just what I was after, recently upgraded to my D750, a lot happier & more confident with the camera thanks to you !
Thank you Dave! Perfect tutorial. After having D90for a lot time, I have recently bought D850 and the setup procedure is done with almost the same functions (options). Very useful ...
Thank you so much for this video. I just bought a D750 and setting it up has been an interesting experience. I have learned so much from this video. Super helpful!! Will be hitting it again and again to be sure I understand everything and set my body up optimally.
Thx alot for this video. I just ordered the D750, so I'm looking around for tips etc. And this video is great, gonna try this settings when I get mine. Have a wedding shoot in August, don't wanna fail :)
Thank you!!! Your video is 300% better than the manual. You explain each item in detail and so everyone can understand it and that is GREAT!! I have your video book marked and will use it as often as I need.
These settings helped me out a lot, thank you. I'm surprised at how good this camera still is for stills and will use it more before upgrading to the next Sony APSC upgrade to the A6500 for more video features. :)
Brilliantly detailed and informative. I am considering getting the D750 and this will be an invaluable aid to setting it up. In the meantime I will use your guide to optimise my D7000 where I can as I think some of the menus are similar.
Thank you, Dave. After mishaps or factory work on my camera, I always return to your tutorial to remind myself of your settings. You speak fast (!), but I'm happy it allows more content. Thanks for your work. Cheers
Thanks to you I've made adjustments to my D7200 settings and that's great. I'm on the verge of getting the D750 and will be replaying your video a few times to get the settings right on that.
I am retiring my D700 and going to the D750 which should be at my door any minute at this point. I have seen a few setup tutorials on this camera but most are just basic. This video is for sure very useful and will be using it to setup my D750. You know the menus in this camera better than I know my own address. Good job!
Thank you very much for this video men, im coming from the analog photography and i'm overwhelmed with the functions and menu from this camera, but you made it a lot better and gave me a lot of usefull input to work better with this camera.
I am not english speaker and I try so hard to understand what you are saying, I was going crazy looking for info. But you explain so so well. Thank you so much!! Eres mi salvador!!
Thanks you! Today I received my 2nd hand D750 and it works almost simular than the D7200. Your explanation helps a lot to achieve better results (on both...).
I just purchased the D750 today, so finding this tutorial has been super helpful! So many great things I hadn't considered before. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge, great help!
Dave. One of the most enjoyable and instructional videos I;ve seen. Viewed it more than once! Confirming some of my own thoughts and teaching me others. Many thanks.
Hi David, I really appreciate your video. I have been shooting D750 for a year, mostly landscape. I will apply your suggested setting in my camera right away. Your video is very good. I watched it over and over again until i got your instruction. Very well done. I will follow Michael Myers below to set up my U1U2.
Just bought my first Nikon, a Nikon D750, and applied all the settings you’ve recommend. Looking forward to having lots of fun with this camera. My other is a Sigma SG14. I simply enjoy taking photos, and look forward to mastering this tool to compliment my hobby. Thanks for your video share.
Thanks for all the info! I learned a bunch about my new to me camera. One thing I have set up differently is the FN button on my camera activates the Non-CPU lens menu. I only have one or two CPU lenses, but I have a ton of AI and AI/s glass that I use all the time. (Wish Nikon would have more than 9 slots for Non-CPU lenses...) Happy shooting!
Thanks so much for this informative video, Dave.. Sold off my D7K and bought D750 two days ago and I am going to have the setting customised as per your suggestions. Cant wait to experiment the camera this weekend.
Glad to hear it Aris Abdullah ! Just shot our first wedding with four D750's and think this is the best wedding camera we've ever used. Happy shooting!
Thanks for this tutorial. I just sold my Sony A7II and bought the D750, it was a focus issue for me in low light. I'm getting use to this camera, I'm sure I'll love it!
I'm retired and a newbie to photography. I've just bought my first ever camera, the Nicon D750 and found this video informative and very professional. Thank you.

Thanks for the kind words Harry! Makes the effort that much more worth it :)
Harry, I can not agree more with you. EXCELLENT instructions from a very knowledgeable person. I think I am going shopping for a D750 this week!!!!
Virtual horizon Nikon d750
Mr. Cheung,
I‘m an engineer and have a masters degree - so I have seen and made instructional videos before. This presentation of yours is one of the best in class that I have seen.
Thank you.
thanks for watching and taking the time to write in. I’m humbled and honoured by your words and will try to keep it up. Blessings!

Thomas Maxxamus I love the idea of moving to mirrorless but have been sadly disappointed by slow focus speeds so far. One day ....

Still love my D750. Liked several of your shooting suggestions. Thanks.
Absolutely brilliant tutorial, very informative, I have picked up loads of tips from you. Thank you.
Fantastic video Dave - I recently purchased the D750 to accompany my D800 with weddings - I LOVE your continuous focus tip!! Thanks!
Great video! Just bought the camera today and this video saved me so much time in customising it. Thanks heaps!
Just recently moved to my first full frame camera and this video was super helpful for setup. Well done and thanks for sharing.
This is just about the most useful video on the D750. Thank you Dave, you Rock!
Thanks highveloc1ty and happy shooting :)

Have a great and Happy Holidays..
Excellant! I have had this camera for over 18 months and still gat so very confused- this are now my u1 settings- so whenever i need to i can go back to Dave's settings to keep on photoing. Many thanks!
Great video Dave! Thanks for the tips and tricks. I especially love the autofocus being assigned to the AE/AF-L button, and focus mode set to AF-C S.
One of the best tutorials hands down. I have two d800s but just bought a D750, so this tutorial was great to get a feel for the D750. Thank you for your time invested in this tutorial. G!d Bless as well.
Great to hear it helped you out! Cheers and happy shooting :)
Thank you, the User's manual is 505 pages. You did a great job!
Thanks +John Brindisi ! Happy shooting :)
LOVE it when I find a video with exact settings! I have a Nikon D5600 camera body and am renting the Af-s 24-120 lens that my buddy has on his D750. Do you think the lens is compatible to my 5600? I use it for TH-cam vids. Thanks for any advice you can give me.
I can't see why it wouldn't be. Best to try out and make sure tho.
THANK YOU DAVE JUST ORDERED MY FIRST FX CAMERA THIS MORNING A D750. WATCHED YOUR VIDEO OF RECOMMENDED SETTINGS AND TIPS THIS AFTERNOON COULDN'T BE MORE EXCITED TO GET MY HANDS ON IT. THANK YOU AGAIN
Very welcome +Daniel Warner and enjoy the camera :)
Wonderful video. I have little sensitivity in my thumb so moving the autofocus to the front of the camera for me is wonderful..iso trick is also very cool... thank you...Bob
Thank you for the tips even I haven't a nikon d750 yet. Im planning to have it soon :(
Thanks Dave! I've had my D750 for over a month now, and this video has helped me familiarize myself with my camera. Thanks a Billion....!
Welcome SATXDANCER ! Happy shooting :)
Ok... so its not just me. Thanks again!
Great little instructional video. I'm getting a D750 within the next week and upgrading from a D200. Very useful tips here. Thanks Dave.
David this video has helped me tremendously and I appreciate you sharing the knowledge... GOD Bless
One of the best videos I've used. I learned more from this than reading my manual. Well narrated and explained. Thanks from Downunder.
Welcome +steveparaglider thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :)

Thank you Dave! Perfect tutorial. After having D90for a lot time, I have recently bought D850 and the setup procedure is done with almost the same functions (options). Very useful ...

Excellent! Understandable! Interesting! I've seen most of the trash and finally found Dave's. The absolute best in all things of an instruction video.
Thanks Dale! Happy shooting :)
Thank you!!! Your video is 300% better than the manual. You explain each item in detail and so everyone can understand it and that is GREAT!! I have your video book marked and will use it as often as I need.
Glad to hear it +Les Hesley ! Happy shooting :)
These settings helped me out a lot, thank you. I'm surprised at how good this camera still is for stills and will use it more before upgrading to the next Sony APSC upgrade to the A6500 for more video features. :)
This is beyond super. Extremely helpful. I will watch it several times as needed. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!
johnellsphoto Thanks for watching and the kind words! So glad you found value in watching and Happy Shooting! :)
Brilliantly detailed and informative. I am considering getting the D750 and this will be an invaluable aid to setting it up. In the meantime I will use your guide to optimise my D7000 where I can as I think some of the menus are similar.
Thanks Vernon Nash ! Hopefully the tweaks big and small will help optimize your own shooting preferences :)
Excellent tips! I implemented some but not all of them for my last wedding shoot and it noticeably improved my shooting efficiency. Great stuff.
Thanx for your effort to making this great video
Outstanding lesson on the camera set up, just got my D750 & with your skillful explanation I am ready to shoot. Thank you Master Cheung!
Glad to be of help +Gordon Christie :) Enjoy shooting with this beast of a camera! :)
That is the most helpful video I have seen well done :-)
Thank you, Dave. After mishaps or factory work on my camera, I always return to your tutorial to remind myself of your settings. You speak fast (!), but I'm happy it allows more content. Thanks for your work. Cheers
Happy to help! Think there's a 1/2 speed playback option here somewhere ;) Happy shooting!
Thank you Dave.
Very welcome +Linda Morgan :)
I just picked up a D750 as an upgrade to my D300s. This video was very helpful in getting it setup.
You sure do no your nikon ....great review
Thanks to you I've made adjustments to my D7200 settings and that's great. I'm on the verge of getting the D750 and will be replaying your video a few times to get the settings right on that.
Thannks once again for your most useful setup gaide. It removes the mystery from all the various dials, buttons that eliminate possible confusion .
Glad to be of help +shuswaptoy :)
Best explanation of back button focusing. So quickly described but so easy to understand.. wow thank you!
I am retiring my D700 and going to the D750 which should be at my door any minute at this point. I have seen a few setup tutorials on this camera but most are just basic. This video is for sure very useful and will be using it to setup my D750. You know the menus in this camera better than I know my own address. Good job!
LOL! Thanks Bryce!! Happy shooting and God Bless :)
Thank you very much for this video men, im coming from the analog photography and i'm overwhelmed with the functions and menu from this camera, but you made it a lot better and gave me a lot of usefull input to work better with this camera.
I love the way you explained how to use the camera. Simple and easy to follow instructions.
Great 'hands on' tips especially the 'one hand off' hacks, exactly the how and why's that make fellow D750 users very happy! THX!
Great video. Thanks. I just ordered this camera to replace my older D610 and it will be here in a couple of days. I plan to watch again when it comes.
I am not english speaker and I try so hard to understand what you are saying, I was going crazy looking for info. But you explain so so well. Thank you so much!! Eres mi salvador!!
Thank you for this very useful tips, much clearer than the manual itself, your tips turn my d750 from water to wine !!!
Thank you! Absolutely fantastic settings & tips. This is by far the best instruction video I have come across. SPOT ON!!! Great Job Dave.
after several more serious shooting, i found the settings are very practical and useful! thank you so much for sharing

I just purchased the D750 today, so finding this tutorial has been super helpful! So many great things I hadn't considered before. Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge, great help!
So glad you found it useful Hannah Maria ! Enjoy your new camera and happy shooting :)
Dave. One of the most enjoyable and instructional videos I;ve seen. Viewed it more than once! Confirming some of my own thoughts and teaching me others. Many thanks.
Fascinating excellent set up arrangements
Thanks for the kind words Michael Harris ! Makes it all the more worthwhile to make them :) Blessings and happy shooting!
Hi David, I really appreciate your video. I have been shooting D750 for a year, mostly landscape. I will apply your suggested setting in my camera right away. Your video is very good. I watched it over and over again until i got your instruction. Very well done. I will follow Michael Myers below to set up my U1U2.
Stumbled across this and found it to answer most of my ergonomic issues with this camera. Thanks man!
Great tut, very informative. Just got my hands on a D750 in the last few days, having come from D700, D300, D70, F4. Very happy. Thanks Dave!
Congrats on the new cam intercuts! It's a beauty :) Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas!!
Thanks for all the info! I learned a bunch about my new to me camera.
One thing I have set up differently is the FN button on my camera activates the Non-CPU lens menu. I only have one or two CPU lenses, but I have a ton of AI and AI/s glass that I use all the time. (Wish Nikon would have more than 9 slots for Non-CPU lenses...)
Happy shooting!
Your tutorial, although not the most comprehensive, is by far better than the others that I have viewed. Succinct is good.
thanks for watching and the kind words Ray! Happy shooting :)
