    So I don’t know if it’s been mentioned by someone else but anyone who has run with a trust in Mt Gulg in Shadowbringers and taken Alphinaud, he actually points out the similarities between the lion sin eater and the statues at Amdapor. And after you beat the boss Alphinaud then comments that he wants to research the connection. So I found that interesting as I was just rerun in that dungeon today while leveling

    If we make up a general term for beings like Sin Eaters, say [aspect] Warped; Sin Eaters would be Light Warped, and Voidsent would be Dark Warped, it's very possible that there have been Light Warped beings on the source. We've seen Water Warped beings in Sastasha (Hard), and while they weren't as far gone as Sin Eaters and could still talk, they were well on their way. The video we found in Azys lla to cure tempering showed people turned into Earth Warped beings. I don't think it would be a stretch to say that the Amdapori experimented with Light Warping, and then made the stone constructs in their image.

    Honestly, as both the War of the Magi and the Flood of Light were due to Ascian influence, I'd venture to say that that probably had a bigger role in the similarities than anything.

    Someone had a vision of “transcendent beings of a higher plane” no? While there is little evidence for it, there is the possibility that it was due to the Echo. We’ve been shown that aspects of the Echo can see back and forward. See Mikoto, Mezaya Thousand Eyes, or Tiuna. It is possible that there was an Echo-blessed Amdapori mage who had these visions, utterly lacking context for what they truly were.

    • @TheEorzeanArchives

      Now there’s an idea! The issue is that her visions always include her and are fixed events so where would have the impetus for a sin eater come from? Though I suppose a loop could have been made in them seeing their own creation. -Elioaux

    I wanted to point out that to those who have done Eureka, everyone will also remember the fate encounter: Holy cow. Where the supposed 'cattle' creature we slay turns out to be a lion sin-eater too. going by your theory alone, the existence of Eureka might as well have done a similar trick as what happened with ampador.

    This is pure speculation, but you could be right that Amdapor accidentally created Sin Eaters during the war. My thinking is that they created them during a battle with the Mhachi, one where they were using summoned Voidsent. Sin Eaters are drawn to aether, which Voidsent should be the greatest amounts of in an area. This might lead to Sin Eaters going for the Voidsent over regular mortals. This explains both the Amdapori believing they’re making constructs in the image of divine beings, since they would see Sin Eaters as Holy Saviors in this case, and the Mhachi being fearful of their image, since they would have seen these Sin Eaters defeat Voidsent, some of their most powerful summons. I figure that eventually, the Voidsent would have beaten any Sin Eaters summoned through sheer numbers, since we suspect that the Mhachi summoned many. Again this is pure speculation, but I think it explains a lot of the current lore.

    I think time travel is still a thing, just not how we'd think of it. There's something to note about ShB mainly when the Exarch talks about how he ended up on the first. From his gathering, he was on the 1st for almost a hundred years, and while the souls of our companions were only displaced for months, on the 1st they have been there for 2-3 years (possibly 4 years with Thancred). So its possible that when the flood of light was just starting on the first, the Amdapori were getting visions of the Sin Eaters and why their White Magic was stronger in comparison to the era's the followed. So its possible that the initial first flood of light was stopped, then it restarted. That would Make Ardbert and co roughly 50-100 years old when they landed on the source. Between the realms the time-space continuum is distorted. What could be a day on the first could be a week and so on.

    • @TheEorzeanArchives
      @TheEorzeanArchives  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The reason the Exharch was able to achieve a backwards flow in time from the 8th umbral timeline was due to the tycoon a methodology that amdapori would have nowhere near been able to replicate even Allag and the ancients couldn’t. On the flood topic, that’s not how the flood of light is described to us to have happened in ShB and Eden. We know that time can expand and contract in relative distance to each shard and the source but it’s made clear the flood of light was oncoming relatively quickly and the time between Ardbert and co defeating Eden leavening and returning was short and that the 100 years since the halting was the time from the end of 3.4-5.0. Beyond this the aetherial ability for tilt to flow backwards through time would be hard to reconcile with the reality of the calamities as well as every known facet of aetherology and the fact that if it was the case why wouldn’t the 6th have been umbral instead of water. -Elioaux.

    Iirc the explanation we got for gargoyles is that given how incredibly hard it is to create a dimensional gate big enough to let the full creature traverse, stone bodies were created to host the souls of the creatures, so the mages were able to peek into the 13th and knew what demons look like on the other side because they saw them first hand (eye?).
    Although it is not mandatory to assume that the Amdaporians learned the sin eater's appearance from the 1st (the transformation seems like enough of a "natural" phenomenon to cause the exact same effects everywhere it happens), we do have to remember that the 1st and the 13th are the two shards that are the easiest to access, because they're the closest from the Source. If the Mhachi could barely open a gate big enough for a soul in the 13th, I'd have trouble imagining the Amdaporians opening a gate to a yet more distant shard.
    Also, I'm not too sure but I think we've been told in Eden that the flood of darkness in the 13th had a ripple effect on the 1st and made it more sensitive to light, so even though the flood of light did not yet happen at the time, the aetherial balance was already starting to tilt in that direction, and maybe some cases of transformation did happen here and there, thus we wouldn't necessarily need time travel to explain the presence of these figures. Maybe those stray, early sin eaters were drawn like moths to the flame of all the delicious light aether of those powerful white mages from the other side of the hypothetical light crack that they would've opened.

  • @shangriisgamecorner
    @shangriisgamecorner 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but I would contest that a couple white mages overaspecting to light aether could accidentally become sin eater in appearance. (Spoilers for EndWalker and Shadowbringers) If proof of Endwalker there is a point where blasphemies start to appear. Somehow they look exact to the creatures in the final days. Taking this in mind, it would be plausible that over light aspected would share very similar appearances. We only 2 variations so it becomes more likely those were the only 2 amdepor deemed holy. If any others appeared, they might have just slew them.

  • @bendonatier
    @bendonatier 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Something missing in your explanations is the Ascians. We know they are directly responsible for all of the calamities, and created the sin eaters through Eden. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that they taught the mages of Amdapore how to make creatures that rivals the voidsent by using creatures of pure light as their base. That or when seeding the first sin eaters they used the golems as a base, since they knew the form conducted light so well.

    Judging on how the Convocation of 13 most definitely had facilitated the War of the Magi, it would also stand to reason that Amon/Fandaniel would also have been performing research at the time.
    With the 13th shard completely ruined during the first attempt at a rejoining it is plausible that the ascians would look to white magic/light magic as a means to undo the corruption of the 13th and prime it for a true calamity.
    This being said my theory is that those bosses were a type of prototype sin eaters, experiments by Amon or others into the development of light counterparts to the voidsent. Being unable to impart their light aether onto others, these would have been deemed failures and thus the concept was dropped until it came to ruin the heavily light aspected 1st shard.
    Emet was able to make Vauthry (a light warden/human hybrid who retained their human intellect) so it’s very possible that he or the other ascians had the means to influence the development of sin eaters.

    Voidsent, Sin Eaters, and even Blasphemies come in certain shapes/forms. Hand waving explanation is that its a videogame and resources are limited, but one could speculate that the corruption forces different lifeforms to converge into these predetermined shapes/forms.
    The way I imagine it happened was someone tried infusing light into a creature they considered dangerous, accidentally creating a Forgiven Cruelty. That experiment might've lead to someone attempting to do the same with a soldier, creating a Forgiven Dissonance or Hypocrisy.
    Realizing that these creatures are difficult to control, and assuming it was due to the living being becoming insane, they instead shifted their efforts into infusing non-living things, even modeling statues after the previously created Lightsent.

    I thought of something far more simple; A primal of light.
    I mean, when the war broke out it is not too unimaginable that some factions promoted the idea of taking primals on their sides. Especially given the nature of this war that tipped the balance of the world to quite some extend.
    The primal solution makes a lot of sense in my eyes, as a sineater is elementary unbalanced. An event that prior in the story, not even Allag was capable of. A primal however certainly has this ability and it's presence would make the stakes of the war on both sides more understandable, as I believe that Mach is considered too much of the antagonist here

    I think the shapes of sin eaters are an interesting point in the first place. If the light aether reshapes the bodies as is also discussed in 5.4(?) in regards to tempering. It would be a shape to better express and their aether?
    It seems natural that weapons made to utilize light aspected aether would be built in a shape that could do so as optimally as possible.
    It's pure speculation, but not totally idle speculation. Thoughts?

    The similarities in part can be explained by the devs cutting costs in not needing to make entirely new models (boring!) and then through the Sundering. I believe that the Sin Eaters, just like Voidsent are corrupted concepts created by the Ancients way back when and due to some kink in their design and Hydaelyn mucking it all up, they got tucked away from the physical plane. And because of their design can only be manifested through Light aspected summonings and the Flood of Light. Vice-versa for the Voidsent of course.
    Just like the Primals flew out of Silvertear in one of the early FFXIV cinematics, I think it is possible for concepts to exist as ideas within Aether itself and be tapped into through sorcery and similar arcane means. Amdaporian deep study of the subject allowed them to peer into some "idea dimension" in which these concepts still exist. Mitron and Loghrif (responsible for life forms) were the two Convocation members present during Flood's initial manifestation is also very interesting and probably not a coincidence.
    Transcendent Higher Plane in my interpretation then are aetherically saturated planes (could be the Hells and Heavens) that can inspire people to summon primals and other concepts to the Source and the Shards. They were possibly methodically sealed and tucked away by Hydaelyn and her compatriots for the purposes of stability.

    Well it's said early in Shadowbringers that time flows differently between the source and the first but during the events of the story time has mirrored for a short time.
    It could be during the war the amdapori in an attempt to combat the voidsent theorised about and summoned lightsent(aka sin eaters) summoned from the first like the voidsent come from the 13th but realising they worse and mindless beasts hungry for aether killed them but used their images for the constructs when deciding on that path instead

    • @linkblade0
      @linkblade0 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is possible.
      The flood of light occurred approximately 100 years prior to the warrior of light appearing in Norvrandt. However, as you specified, it is mentioned that time flows differently between the shards, depending on their proximity to the source. We're given no specific timeline of events that state when each shard is effected by the Ascians. The only known correspondence is that in order for a rejoining to occur (a shard colliding with the source), a calamity must occur that matches the aetheric imbalance of the shard being rejoined. Such as the war of the maji draining the land of the various base elements, leaving an influx of water attributed aether. Sort of like an inverse magnet, like attracting like.
      Since the Ascians started with the thirteenth shard and therefore darkness. It stands to reason they similarly began working on the first to produce light even if they had to abandon the plan of rejoining the thirteenth. The Ascians are aware that even as each rejoining occurs, they need to attempt to maintain a balance of aether, otherwise what occurred in the thirteenth could occur in the source.
      Since the source didn't have an over abundance of light aether, the distance to the first could have been much larger, meaning time flowed very differently.
      Another thing to keep in mind. With the Mhachi learning how to summon voidsent. It stands to reason that the Ascians would teach the Amdapori to summon lightsent (sin eaters) to counter and keep the balance. After all, the Ascians were aiming for a water calamity. Not light.

      @@linkblade0 The flood of light happened right at the time Ardbert and friends came to the Source, which is a matter of months (Source time) before the events of ShB and EW. The rate of time is different between shards but it's still pretty much linear (barring Ironworks Crystal Tower time travel shenanigans). The flood was actively happening during the post-HW patches, so it's not possible the sin eaters would exist in the First to be summoned during the time of Amdapor
