As the name Roegadyn means "people of the rain", I thought it would be cool if Aerslaent was based off of the temperate rainforests that can be found in places like Norway and Alaska
Also of note is that Scion members Aergmhus and Bloumwyda are headed to Aerslant soon! Probably the least memorable background Scions out of the lot, but they're there!
I really like variant dungeons, because they are so casual and as a lore nerd, I get so much from them. In addition, people who want more challenging content has options. It's a good way to fill out the lore in the FFXIV world. i am norwegian myself, and I'm sorely missing more Norse mythology in FFXIV story. Scandinavia is still shrouded in fog though, so it will probably get some love in one of the next expansion packs 🤞
Personally, the one variant dungeon I'd like to see the most would be Nagxia. We know very little of it, besides that it's basically fantasy Vietnam and was occupied by Garlemald for a time, so the team has a lot of creative freedom to work with. Sprinkled with some glamour inspired by South-East Asian culture as a reward, and I'd be a very happy player.
I personally wanna see the gaols of Eulmore as a variant dungeon. We don't know much about it, one of the Chais could join us (more specifically Chai-Nuzz), and we've only seen it once or twice. We also don't know much about Eulmore itself besides what was given to us during MSQ where it was already twisted into what we see today. We could even be notified by Feo Ul... somehow. They have the ability to go between the First and Source due to our pact, so that's an idea on how we could be notified on the request.
the first have a lot of places where they can add variant dungeons, the civilizations before the flood like voeburt or nabaath areng, or places that are untouched but we never explored like the zone that is gyr abania in the source, the map show that it was not consumed by the flood but we got cero information about that place.
Personally I'd love to go to where Viera came from, maybe the Skatay Range or Golmore Jungle. I've always wanted to learn more about the Viera, or maybe even Miqo'te
My hard and fast desire that'll never happen is getting variant dungeons based on the various jobs. Going to thavnair and fighting a variant dungeon infested with the dance of death, going to ishgard to take Sylvie(I think that's her name?) Into a place to continue her story after stormblood. We could find a temple to rhalgr in the new world and have a competition of the old world monks versus the new. So much potential in every job
Since Endwalker Variant take place at ARR, SB and EW places I think the new one could be located at HW, ShB and DT maps Heavensward with Hilda, Shadowbringers with Ryne and Dawntrail with the DT tribe
Man, Variant Dungeons can tell so many stories and I have so many places would love to see After Sil'dihn I thought they will do one for Gridania and one for Limsa Lominsa too in Endwalker, and I started imagining going to some Gelmorra Ruins with my Kan-E-Senna and fighting Toto-Rak and get more Lore on elementals, oh my.... I would also love to have some Sky Pirates Treasures Island with Cait Sith as our guide, BTW: there's Ghost Ship enemy in FF VII in underwater reactor, as weird as Hell House, so yeah, they can do it :D But my personal favourite would be Minion's Factory xD :D just for fun
I only have 1 request for the next dungeons: dragons. I want to learn more about the time before the dragonsong war. Visit some old ruins, maybe delve deeper into Sohr Khai, so that we get to know more about Ratatoskr. Estinien would be perfect as a companion, but if Scions are off the table then Heustienne would be a great choice. It's been a long time since we last heard from her, and her story would fit in nicely with the subject at hand.
I hope they continue this route with the Variant Dungeons in tackling every clan's history. Mostly because we are so bereft of areas for Moon Keepers and Duskwights that I'd love to have a piece of content that is all their own. We also have a *lot* of Xaela tribes left to see, and their noted reach is pretty far, so seeing some of the coastal areas east of the Steppe in Othard would be wonderful in filling that out.
I always love these speculations that inevitably expand people's interest in the beautiful world building the game has. I do miss my "new take on old dungeons" with Hard mode or just more of them in general, but Variant/Criterion has been quite a fun time in both gameplay and lore, so I'm glad they are still going strong despite... Interesting reward choices.
At first I was hyped for the possibility of an Ishgard variant dungeon because there are so many possibilities. One wing can cover the distant path when dragons and mortals co-existed via "heretical" relics buried deep in secured chambers, and the final boss being... Something I can't think of just yet. One wing can cover the Heavens' Ward and what they were like, perhaps with training rooms with the final boss being a massive training automaton? Mini-bosses can be those animated horses or suits of armor, totally-not-voidsent animated gargoyles, or a highly trained and loyal guard who refuses to accept the fall of the Archbishop. Then I started thinking about Duskwight lore since there's precious little lore presented outside of a few quests or flavor text. Maybe we can learn what Gelmorra was like in its glory days by exploring a recently inhabited part of some ruins, and the last boss being a Duskwight who employs various tricks and tools invented by their subterranean ancestors. Another wing can be more dilapidated, and players can learn about the cultural split when the forest spirits finally allowed people to live on the surface. The variant dungeons really do open up a world of possibilities for deeper lore dives without bogging down the MSQ.
Thanks for the video and all of your hard work Elio! It was unexpected, but so gooood! I'm hyped for the Elezen one as a fellow Elezen, but each and every guessing is so interesting. I'm thrilled to know you have a doc of 10k to explain us everything! (and yeah, I think it's Morcianne with a /si/ and not a /ki/ 'cause -nne is typically a french fem concordance and 'ci' in french is prononce /si/ {and 'si' is /zi/ which is funny})
I think a variant dungeon of the underside of ishgard would be sooo cool, we have so many ishgardian elezen they could be the guide character... We only see the pillars+brume when ishgard is HUGE, especially the underside Part, not to mention the Inquisitors and stuff mentioned in the scholasticate quest
Soon as variant dungeons came out I wanted to have the west shroud as one, I want to explore that area after it was destroyed by Bahamut, you can see what’s it’s become and I think it could lead to some interesting hidden finds.
Honestly, i can't wait to see a hrothgar theme's Variant Dungeons! There are so much we don't know about their culture! And i know that the Helion has this one lore of how they chose their queen, and i think that would be a good lore bit for that dungeon, with one of the boss using an astrologian based job since the queens in Bozja has been blessed by their gods to read the stars
Ugh, I would literally kill for a Farreach/Abalathian Hellsguard-themed Variant Dungeon. We know so little about the Hellsguard, but what we do know sounds absolutely buck-wild - my main has been a Hellsguardian Warrior for years and years now, and Roegadyn have been so under-represented in the MSQ - our last proper Roegadyn buddy was Gosetsu in Stormblood, and that's almost seven years old now. T_T
This is a great idea for a sreies and I'm really looking forward to the viera video since we haven't really seen viera society on the source and a variant dungeon exploring it would be cool. That being said, I'd also really like to get a variant dungeon on the first that deals with pre-flood, post-ronkan history of norvrandt and the unique cultures there. For the sake of variety it could also be cool to get a variant dungeon that isn't framed as an exploratory expedition but is instead part of a bigger conflict like the Ghimlyt Dark, though that might be tricky to make work.
i would love a mor dhona variant dungeon, because we know so little about mor dhona's history aside from all the allagan stuff and the aftermath of the battle of silvertear skies. who lived there?? what was their culture like?? what were their relationship to midgardsormr and silvertear lake?? what were their relationship to the eorzean city-states?? was there a population of dragons in mor dhona?? i want to know!!
@@DeletedUser57346 The examples he gave were the admiral, a former mist bears, and a prominent member of the company of heroes. I can't see any of them not helping us clear trash at the very least.
I would LOVE, if travel to other shards would be enabled in Dawntrail, a Variant Dungeon on the First! Maybe a Nu mou based dungeon or a Ronkan one idk but I want to return!
I personally would love for a Variant dungeon with Aymeric, and something that imediately drew me was (And i'm not a huge lore nerd so this is just wild speculation so this could just be nonsense) What if for some reason or another we have to go down into the Foundations of Ishgard. The foundation of Foudation if you will. Maybe because there is something that needs checking on like a weakness in the building materials or a catacomb that Aymeric wishes to visit. Three paths could include things like, The orignal undead Heavensward knights entombed in stained glass, a eounded behemoth or dragon that has grown up inside the floor of Ishgard and is threatening to topple parts of it as it grows to maturity and perhaps a group of revolutionaries looking to guy fawkes The Congregation of Our Knights Most heavenly or something. Just a thought.
3:54 as a Roe player and Roe Enjoyer listening while I was playing in game, I yelled out HUH and tabbed back in LMAO. But we love Fem Roes and Male Roes for both of those reasons
My prediction for a variant is the old Garlean Republic Capitol Building. It's probably full of lore and haywire magitek, and it they ever want to use it again they're going to need help with that. There are a bunch of non-combat NPCs who could serve as the questgiver, like one of the Senators we've met through the MSQ.
MAN. I cant wait for the Hrothgar VD. We already have BSF and Zadnor, But it's focused on modern Hrothgars. We already have some lore of the Hrothgars during the 3rd AE (Allagans were a dick to Bozja and thus the Queen made and used Save the Queen and the Gunbreaker job was brought to existence), but nothing further before. It could be lost history because of the Imperial invasion and the unfortunate aftereffect of war being some history is lost due to it...
We now need an island in the new world that was too rough for the Sea wolves to live on that is now home to some of the friendliest folks you meet. Look up vikings and L'Anse aux Meadows. Also FELL CLEAVE ME I'LL FELL CLEAVE IT! I am looking forward to the Hroth the most cause I want to return to Bozja.
You know, there's a couple of roegadyn former scions in the drowning wench who say they're going to head over to aerslaent. Not exactly notable admittedly, but theyre there, would be a shame to not include them in a variant dungeon in at least some way shape or form.
This video and the ideas within are incredible but I'm gonna need you to stop planting the roegadyn viking idea *for variant* in the devs heads because I've been holding out on a full roegadyn viking expac for years. 😂 There's a part of humanity that can be made better by having a full soken-lead viking ost. (...but I'd still take a roegadyn viking variant if it's the crumb they give me instead of a one-off villain or plot death roegadyn 🥲 )
I cannot wait for Miqote and Hrothgar though! But take your time. I love this channel as it makes me feel I'm listening to a scholar in game.
I really like variant dungeons, because they are so casual and as a lore nerd, I get so much from them.

I think the new one could be located at HW, ShB and DT maps

Well thought out ideas and think they would all make excellent content! Thanks for all the time and effort from you and your team of helpers.

I had the exact same line of thought on gelmorra and would still love to see that!
I only have 1 request for the next dungeons: dragons.

You have no idea how HAPPY it makes me to see someone talk about and speculate about Roegadyn lore.
I hope they continue this route with the Variant Dungeons in tackling every clan's history. Mostly because we are so bereft of areas for Moon Keepers and Duskwights that I'd love to have a piece of content that is all their own.

I'm inclined to believe Skatay Range will one day be a variant dungeon, idk how but my hunch has rarely been wrong with this game

This would be so exciting!
I absolutely love Variant dungeons.

I'll never find this format annoying, more lore and theories? I'm all for it !

I love this series idea, I play an Urumet Xaela and I can't wait to hear about your ideas for the Au Ra.

I'd like the normal versions of the variants to be available in the X0 roulette myself. a nice surprise when people get them.
i would love a mor dhona variant dungeon, because we know so little about mor dhona's history aside from all the allagan stuff and the aftermath of the battle of silvertear skies. who lived there?? what was their culture like?? what were their relationship to midgardsormr and silvertear lake?? what were their relationship to the eorzean city-states?? was there a population of dragons in mor dhona?? i want to know!!
I feel like the problem with a sea wolf traveling companion is that you'd need to justify them not fighting.
That's racist
@@DeletedUser57346 The examples he gave were the admiral, a former mist bears, and a prominent member of the company of heroes. I can't see any of them not helping us clear trash at the very least.
We do still need to get the frozen cities of the north from Emet’s list, so I am here for Roegadyn lote
Also love the crystal chronicles music

YOU’RE GOING THE WRONG WAAAAAA-
Okay I couldn’t help but reference it XD
Jokes aside, great video as always!
I'm out here with my buffalo hot sauce spaghetti watching the Eorzean Archives
I NOTICED THAT FFXI MUSIC IMMEDIATELY
Before we move on from the current crop, I want Statice as a Scholar pet glamour.

I would actually like to see us fight a big boat XD
ROEGADYN VIKINGS!!!!!! Pack it up, this ain't gonna be toped. 😂 Let's get a little Skyrim in FFXIV 😊
I love your voice homie, you sound very academic
I will not stand for the erasure of Hoary Boulder's husband, Coultenet

fantastic video, but dont play the cid music at the end, it makes me cryyyyy
maaan , i wish i could watch the video, but voice over your own characters is just to cringe for me.
