Some lessons learned: Only keep one male and 2 or 3 females in each tank or divided section. Otherwise the males fight nonstop! If you remove the eggs from the cave, use an egg tumbler to help prevent fungus. The Java Ferns were the only plants that my larger plecos didn't tear up. And try to only breed Bristlenose of the same variety / color, to get offspring that are worth more. Super reds, blue eyes, green dragons, and long fins are more valuable and easier to sell. If you are planning on breeding, make sure you have enough capacity to hold all the babies as they grow for at least 6 months, and make sure you have a place to sell them!

I personally would advise people to start with the commons/albino commons, just to get a feel for it. Commons sell faster than any others, because they're cheap and can go with basically anything. Once you're confident, sell the breeders and invest in something fancy. The last thing you wanna do is buy a couple hundred dollars worth of fancy bristlenose or L number plecos, and have them die.
The pleco bio load is definitely a learning experience. lol

2:35, one of them is a born gymnastic, doing what looks to be a 185 rotation flip. The judges in the background are in total awe as this little one is going for the Guinness world record of most consecutive front flips made in one leap. This ladies and gents is astounding!
i am looking to getting into breeding and i was looking for someone to watch breed and i thank you for making videos about this.
Thank you for that series. While I have kept fish for many years, I had never tried breeding plecos. I am starting out slowly with some of the more common bristle nose species until I have more experience. Your series, including the mistakes, was just what I needed to get started.

Congrats mate! I got an aquarium I guess more than 5 years ago, I have a pair of plecos since the beginning and they still rock. They have laid eggs at least 10 times so far, but all the fry died out after a while. It was only since last year that I managed to keep some of them alive, and now currently I have at least 30 small plecos, ranging from a couple months old to half year olds, or maybe even 1 year olds.
I really loved watching the series from start to end. Its good hearing the mistakes you made. Im interested to see how those flies that created so much anquish turned out at the end of the day.

Brilliant advice. I’ve only just found you on here, as my Super Red Bristlenose have just bred for the first time and I have no idea what I’m doing. They’re not very old and this is a total surprise for me as I don’t have a cave or anything, just a big open fake log for decoration as well as plants (and snails 🐌 😠) It’s been nice to follow your journey, and know that not everything goes to plan. I only saw my baby plecos once they swam out of the log, so thank you for such a fabulously filmed and informative video! 😊

I want to breed plecos now! Sadly I don't have enough space for like 3 tanks (one for the babies, one for the breeder plecos and also one for when the babies grow)
Would you recommend having a low flow wave maker to clear a lot of the waste forcing it towards the filter with a corse sponge on as a prefilter to avoid sucking up the fry?
Hay, Thanks for putting together a great 3 part series of your Bristlenose breeding project, and no dobt, you would have a lot more experience breeding them by now.
I'm just begining to breed Albino short and long fin, and Peppermint Bristlenose plecos.
Fortunately we have some storms coming through so ive done a 40"/. water change on both tanks which are both at a PH of 7.2 , and they are aeating Hikari mini wafers, zucchini, and theres black worms hiding anongst the mopani and rocks for them to pick off as they please. I have a Peppermint male in a cave and my big Albino male is activly displaying his fins with both a long fin female, and a short fin female checking him and his cave out. Ive noticed my big Albino male is also quite reddish tonight , and so are the belly's of both females perusing his cave, wheras the rest of the Albinos are still uniform white and not really big enough to breed anyway.
Have you seen these colour changes prior to breeding?
Im hoping because my water is good, that its a sign some breeding will take place overnight, or during this couple of days of storms, and I might be lucky to see my first fry.

Who is the person that had the massive breeding colony?
I was thinking of breeding down the line.., 2 10 gal tanks, one has subadult short fins, the other 10- a couple long fin dark/black and in a 29 gal planted community tank, 7 pleces adult and sub adult. 1 short fin brown female, 1 red eye albino 2 blue eye all female, 1 lf black female and 3 lf black males... about 10 days ago, I find 4 or 5 days, mini to the adults but all dark. Now, I think I have 50 pr more babies! Guess I better get some more grow out space ready!!!!

still not sure about the male-female ratio you mentionned at minute 9... A friend of mine keeps a tank with indeed one male and one or more females, and after breeding, she takes out the female(s), to give a period of rest to the male. he can recover from not eating during his guardening time.
l will order 2 albino bristlenose pleco about 2,5 inch long,but they just deliver afther april and is so far from me.
l want to put them into a 60 liter/16 gallon aquarium it can be ok?

No. The bristlenose pleco needs about a minimum of 25 gallons. I suggest you get something bigger because they may or may not grow bigger.

I’m thinking of breeding my female I have. She is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches long Albino bristlenose. I also have a 6-8 inch long common pleco. I think it’s a male it likes to hide in tight spaces.

I have 1 common Pleco and just noticed a few babies swimming around. Had this single Pleco for an algea eater for I'm thinking over a year now. How did it get pregnant?
Lol sounds like you have the pleco equivalent of some baby Jesus swimming around in your tank!
Wow exciting. I need some advice please. I have some bristle nose plecos. 12 of them. I got them little like babies. Anyway the other day I noticed in one of my caves I saw eggs. I didn't want my african cichlids to eat them, So I had a 10 gallon tank and went out and got a sponge filter and a heater. I moved some of my substrate from the 40 gallon and filled my 10 gallon with the the water from my 40 gallon. I moved the cave into the 10 gallon with the male and today no more eggs they are gone. I did add my fuval aquacelar 50 onto it as well. What am I missing? I did add a female to the 10 gallon tank. Any more suggestions? I don't want to spend alot of money on this just trying to breed albino bristle nose plecos. If I see eggs do I need to move the male and female out of the 10 gallon tank? Any advice please.

The male likely ate the eggs in stress. The best thing you can do is leave him alone when you see eggs. They will hatch in 4-5 days
Hey there, I know this video is super old but it’s worth a shot, I currently have some fry with egg sacks still in an incubator. I’d guess another day or two until the sack is gone. How should I move these guys from the incubator to the breeding box? And would it be safe to do so with them still having egg sacks?
I'd say so, I move mine to a floating breeder box within the same tank immediately after they hatch
@@FoisyAquatics I appreciate the response! I moved them into the box yesterday and everything went well. This is my first pleco hatch, I got about 22 total commons and 4 albinos surprisingly.
Hey I have a question. I have a pair of bristlenose and woke up to a bunch of eggs which were just sitting near the front of the tank. I could see tails wiggling and some broke free as I watched. It was quite a surprise to see this. I needed to do a water change though as the tank was due so was very careful to just take up the poop and zucchini bits in the tank. I added a couple extra pieces of driftwood to make sure there was ample wood to grow food for the babies. This made the tank go kind of cloudy so I added half of the amount of recommended stuff to clear the cloudiness.
Next morning the tank was much better but I can not see a single baby pleco anymore whereas the day before there was maybe 15 little babies I saw. The male is still in his cave and last night the female was hanging out sleeping beside the cave. Did they eat the newly hatched babies? I am wondering if there are still eggs in the cave or if the babies went back in?

They do not typically eat the newly hatched fry. Are you sure they aren't hiding under or in the wood?

Actually it took me a few months to find a bristle nose. I went to several stores, time and time again. Look on line. The reason why I wanted a BN is because they are cute, grow only about five inches. You see I have exotic goldfish and I wanted one pleco for each tank.

Most bristlenose males are pretty good at hatching eggs, most of the time, tumblers are very effective for bristlenose eggs, but not must have

Liranatwood yeah I have 4 males and 2 females and I have nether saw them fight and I have successfully breaded but just watch out for the male not eating enough
A 50% water change twice a week is not the same as a 100% water change once a week. It's equivalent to a 75% water change...
If you boil the cucumber they will sink
Also if you raise the temperature permanently ick won't get into your tank. They say 84°-86° is best
What is their favorite food
Green squash and sliced green beans are always good choices!
that is zucchini not cucumber...
