"Bizarre Love Triangle" is a song by the English rock band New Order, released as a single in 1986 from their fourth studio album, Brotherhood (1986), which reached the top five on the US Hot Dance Music/Club Play Singles chart, and No. 5 on the Australian ARIA Charts (No. 1 on the Victoria state chart) in March 1987.
Lyrics
What does this ship bring to me
Far across the restless sea
Waiting for the sirens' call
I've never seen it here before
There she plies a lonely trade
Cutting through the breaking waves
Drifting slowly from her course
She is lost forever more
We all want some kind of love
But sometimes it's not enough
To the wall and through the door
With a stranger on the shore
I won't desert you
I don't know what to say
I really hurt you
I nearly gave it all away
I've got it all wrong
Cause you were not the wrong one
And I don't know where to turn when you're gone
When you're gone
Gotta catch the midnight train
First to Paris then to Spain
Travel with a document
All across the continent
City life is flying by
The wheels are turning all the while
Get on board we can't be late
Our destination cannot wait
All the stars and all the worlds
Filling up this universe
Could never be as close as us
Will never shine as bright on us
I won't desert you
I don't know what to say
I really hurt you
I nearly gave it all away
I've got it all wrong
Cause you were not the wrong one
And I don't know where to turn when you're gone
When you're gone
I won't desert you
I don't know what to say
I really hurt you
I nearly gave it all away
I've got it all wrong
Cause you were not the wrong one
And I don't know where to turn when you're gone
How many times must I lose my way, hey
How many words do I have to say, hey
What can I do just to make you see
That you're so good for a man like
A man like me

This masterpiece was released in 1986. It has been making me happy for 38 years. Thanks to New Order for this masterpiece.
Have you ever heard this soundcheck by the band in late December, 1985 (12 days before my 12th birthday!) , perchance? Although this always has, & always will be my favourite song (esp' the Ship Pettibone mix from 'Substance', as well as Richard X's awesome later mix), I LOVE the different lyrics & often wish that they'd at least retained some of them...anyway, cheers & best wishes from sunny 'Down Under', my friend...take care out there...Matt. th-cam.com/video/QZ-03D0tdvs/w-d-xo.html

This song makes me cry cause is representing the 80's era. The 80's is long gone 😢

This is beautiful 😍
School discos were the best, it was a time when your crush could see you dressed up and free
Youre young yet 🙂
I was 18 and this song reminds me of my first love back then. 1987.
This is.. probably the best song that i ever heard.
It's a good song, but you should probably listen to more music.
You should listen to the Album Edition then, it's even better.

The British really know how to make music, there are no words to describe how good this song is
We are so great, we are so great. Everybody loves us...
British 80s-90s pop music hit differently
I agree with you!!!
yes they are better. Bristish
British for the punk and new wave era, the US for what's today's Classic Rock format, both mixed made it awesome
What a privilege to be a teen in the 80’s!❤
YOU ARE RIGHT THERE LUCAS MY MAN.
I was a kid (born in 76) but my older brother was a teen. I love knowing all the music and movies! What an awesome time period to grow up!

FOR REAL!! 👊🏼
Not sure why God blessed us to live our youth in possibly the best era in human history, but I'm glad He did 🙂
Lyrics:
Every time I think of you
I feel shot right through with a bolt of blue
It's no problem of mine, but it's a problem I find
Livin' a life that I can't leave behind
There's no sense in telling me
The wisdom of the fool won't set you free
But that's the way that it goes and it's what nobody knows
Well, every day my confusion grows
Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I'm waiting for that final moment
You say the words that I can't say
I feel fine and I feel good
I'm feeling like I never should
Whenever I get this way, I just don't know what to say
Why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday?
I'm not sure what this could mean
I don't think you're what you seem
I do admit to myself that if I hurt someone else
Then I'll never see just what we're meant to be
Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I'm waiting for that final moment
You say the words that I can't say
Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I'm waiting for that final moment
You say the words that I can't say
Every time I see you falling
I get down on my knees and pray
I'm waiting for that final moment
You say the words that I can't say

In the description, New Order put the wrong lyrics 😂
This song is pure genius. 64 years old and this never gets old.
I thought you meant the song was 64 years old at first and got very confused.
58, here. I remember when the dance halls in NYC were exploding to this song in the 80s. The best music, ever.
54 yrs old and I fell in love with a drummer named Dan who played this song with a local cover band in STL called "Paint the Earth"...love a drummer and love this songs drum machine.🦋
55 yrs here! Was killin it at the clubs , Phoenix, S.Beach, 90s and early 2000s, this was one of my go to tracks for sure!!
@@elainedeming2822 Very beautiful!
Definitely one of the cleverest songs ever written. It breaks with nearly every classic convention of pop music. The different audio tracks at first glance seem to have almost nothing to with each other. Voice, rhythm, synth all playing along seemingly independent of each other. But the end product is a timeless pop song. It's crazy. Absolutely crazy. Pure genius and one-of-its-kind.
Bernard is not fond of this track.
@@rehcsyah7537 Might very well be. Sometimes artists can be weird. I don't care 😊😂
I wonder if it has anything to do with this song being expected at every concert. There are probably countless imperfections that are part of what make the song for everyone else, but drive it's creators up a wall.
Makes you wonder why it was so underappreciated when it first came out - no US Top 100, and a mere 56th place in the UK charts
@@MarMoif Not so surprising maybe after all. It's not your classic pop song. You really have to listen to it a few times until you understand it's not just some kid arbitrarily crashing into various instruments. The cleverness is not immediately appearant.
My grandmother was dying of lung cancer and in her final days my father and I brought her home from the hospital so she could die peacefully in her own home. On the car ride back from the hospital she told me to turn on the radio so that she could "hear music one last time", and this song came on the radio. She would die later that evening, some songs are just more important than words man

Hello from indonesia 👋🏻
One of the best feel good song ever made. Always gets me pumped 😁.
Everyday 😀😀😀
This is one of those songs that sound really nostalgic to the point of it being melancholy for no reason even though the tune of it is so upbeat and calm.
I wouldn't say for no reason. The lyrics and guitar (particularly the outro) are very melancholic even though most the instrumentals are upbeat, that's why. Listen to any bittersweet song and there is a high chance they use the same kind of juxtaposition. It's very prevalent in 80s dance music.
@@thegrinderman1090 Basically 80s people want to be emotional but still want to dance
@@GanjaBro99 People believed in love, which was the norm and tradition of humanity compared to what we have today. Which is why it was very prevalent. All music of yore is about love, romance, disappointments, break ups. The 80's just had that up beat to dance to while lip synching love lyrics.
The melancholy hits here: "Why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday?" That's the bittersweet nostalgia.
Here for a nostalgic upbeat song

If you have Sirius XM they play this kind of music a lot (at least relatively)
I wish they use a lot of keyboards in modern music but still not as much as the 80’s. They used them a lot and really well too, the songs from the 80’s also have bttr lyrics with stories or love
🤣
U got good taste my friend
New Order honestly deserves more recognition and views
Oh yeah!
I think the reason is there was so many different artists and so much music and genres in that period. It just somehow got skipped over or pushed to the side, no room left in the rotation. Which isn’t a bad thing necessarily, people just had to dig a little harder to find.
Now it’s all same 3 types of garbage music everywhere.

electronic alt rock is one of the best things I ever discovered
It was called Synth-pop or Techno-pop back then.
This song is such a cool example because it pretty much bridges 80s synthpop with the alternative dance genre that New Order helped create (which of course blossomed in the 90s with the Madchester scene and outside bands like Flipper's Guitar)

True... but I turned 20 in 1992... this was still so futuristic and full of possibilities. So glad I was young then too!
Yep . . . he's right, the 80's were frickin' killer awesome. The clothes were on point, the people were ahead of their time, and it influenced the next three decades.
Whenever somebody asks me what's my favorite song?I say bizarre love triangle😂❤ This song in calculates everything I love about music❤
This is simply a masterpiece. Agree with everyone else. Never ages. A true timeless classic.
One of the best songs ever made, and just makes think of how much time has flown by. Suprised it doesn’t have more recognition as it’s my favorite.
This is one of those classic New Order tracks that you hardly here anymore but.... it's still concerned a true classic of they're's and still sounds as fresh today as it did way back in 1986!
Timeless classic!! This song is sooo ahead of its time. Still relevant today.
This song is so eighties, love it 😍 the 80s is with no doubt the greatest decade in music ❤️🔥🔥🔥
It's not that obvious now, but back when this came out, it was one of the first music videos to use digital editing in that way. At the time, there was nothing like this, not just musically, but also visually. We mostly saw music videos the same way, on a little television set, usually less than 17 inches or so, maybe in color, usually broadcast from a little UHF station, because the networks would never, ever play this, though MTV did. None of us had internet, we had the music when we could get it, and we had those nightclubs. This song was like a window into an unimaginable world, one that stood for so much more than the heavy metal and classic rock of the day. It was music of acceptance, kind of music of the future that we saw in front of us. But often it was just these little videos that we saw, especially if we were too young for the clubs. And this song with this video was the most important one of all. The song and the video feed off of each other, and the images that Longo chose, like that little girl running with the doll, or his iconic businessman walking, they burned into our memories in a way that regular music videos couldn't, he was (and is) an artist that has done something nonderivative, something unignorable, even as he humbly claimed that he just copied what he loved. I think that even in another hundred years, people will see this video and wonder how NO and Longo could had possibly rewritten the rules of artistic engagement as they did here.
It amazes me now, but I had met Longo at Hunter College about 30 years ago, I didn't know at the time that he was the vision behind this.
And then, there were THE SMITHS ..
Peter Gabriel?
I went to Hunter, too. Much more recently. Respect to Longo.
Alternative bands had THE best music videos bar none. I remember most mainstream groups had just concert footage, or just them lip syncing, and/or movie scenes from whatever film they provided part of the soundtrack for spliced in. Lame. Music videos should add another dimension to songs IMHO.
MTV belongs in history like Roman classical statues. Important but overtaken
That’s what classical composers do. Each sections is playing their own sub songs / parts that are beautiful on their own yet layered together form something else entirely.
I'm 39 and have had a Happy Hardcore version of this song for over a decade now without ever knowing this original existed. This is amazing and glad I finally know the original as well.
To whomever listening to this wonderful song in 2021, I salute you.
new order is so underrated
I am beyond thankful to my parents for raising me on great music. I remember being high school in 2011 and having the same music interests as my teachers who grew up in the 80’s.
I remember hearing this song about a year and a half ago and I realized how nostalgic it was for me. (My mom was a teen in the 80s so she raised me on all the good stuff) Since I rediscovered it, I have been listening to it almost daily and I never get sick of it. This is the only song I've ever heard where each time I listen to it it feels like I'm hearing it for the first time.
one of my favorite things in life is when you somehow haven't heard this song in like a good while like a year or two and then you hear it/listen to it again and it's like 😮 🙂 😎
Yes! 😊
I feel the same 😍
This song defines my youth. Child of the 80's that I am. I've seen them live so many times.
Me too classic my first school kiss at the school youth centre
We live 4 decades, the best 80s and 90s🎉, wishing if gimme a second chance no doub about it to back of our days the 80s
I love this tune more and more as I get older. I'll be 74 and BLASTING IT LOL
An absolute classic 😝

Defines the 80s
Pure magic! Thank you New Order for this masterpiece!
Song reminds me of when I just finished school and ready to explore life as a young man the year was 1987.They played this all the time at the dance clubs, I wish I could never leave that time, those years were the best young free happy and simple
Born in 89, just missed the 80s. Love this song, always come back to it.
Underrated gem from the 80s. I'm a 90s kid, the magic I find is one decade earlier.
Same here. I was born in 89, grew up in the 90s and 2000s but there’s a hold the 80s has on me. It’s so amazing, the music, the movies, the style, all of it. I wish I lived through it.
Lots of respect to you! I never really fully appreciated the edgy grunge 90s compared to what came before! To be fair there is music quality all around us, but I feel like the good old days will be hard to replicate, especially since, food for thought for a fellow music lover, Led Zeppelin used to highlight pop stations :(
This is one of my favourite songs ever. I cannot even begin to describe how I feel when the chorus plays… just wonderful
This song is everything. It speaks to my soul.
