So Godzilla is on the side of the earth he finds us as a pest not worth the effort to squash but if we become a threat to the earth he will turn on us in a heartbeat
Saw the film in theaters with my little cousins. Didn't tell them much about Godzilla but that he was one of my favorite monsters from childhood. The looks on their faces during the fight were like me reliving my childhood, and when the atomic breath came up, I had forgot! So all three of us were stunned! It's Big G's most powerful weapon and not only did they save it for the last fight, they used it in such a brutal way, we were jsut awestruck! Wound up paying for the film a second time (without my cousins there), but I had fun, jsut wish there was more Gojira, but I couldnt complain!
It surprises me each time someone is surprised by it. His atomic breath is as iconic as his roar and the theme music. But yes it's always great seeing someone see it for the first time as well.
Some of the scenes in the original Gojira 1954 film directly referenced the events Digo Fukuru which was when a US Abomb test in the ocean showered a Japanese fishing boat crew with nuclear water
While trying to get Godzillas roar just right the sound team borrowed the largest speaker setup in the world and played the roar full blast into a microphone placed about 100m away. The sound was so loud it broke windows on the studio lot, set off car alarms for almost 1mile, and measured on the Richter scale as a 2.1magnitude earthquake.
IRL, Godzilla's roar would be so many decibels that it would be lethal to anyone within blocks of it. The iconic roar was created by rubbing a rosin-covered glove over a bass' strings.
For Godzilla's new roar they tried to use the same technique Akira Ifukube the original composer of the classic 1954 Japanese Godzilla, by using a lethal glove rubbing against the double-based instrument, but it didn't feel right to modern audiences and found the results weren't quite right for the era of 12-channel IMAX theaters. They come up with the idea of using metal friction, what filmmakers did is that they used dried ice supercools of certain types of metal, and it starts contracting and vibrating and produces this shrieking and bellowing. For the rumble at the end of the roar, they manipulated recordings of a potted plant raked across the concrete.
Welcome to the Monsterverse! Next film is Kong: Skull Island (with aftercredit scene) then Godzilla: King of the Monsters and finally Godzilla vs. Kong!
King Kong is so damned lame. He stands NO chance against Godzilla except for plot armor making him bigger and stronger than he is in any other movie. The fight would last one flame breath and the gorilla would be dead, end of discussion.
This movie came out before Elizabeth Olsen and/or Aaron Taylor-Johnson found their way into the MCU. Probably would've been best to watch this movie first. That's why it's not so awkward to me. I look at things backwards. Elizabeth and Aaron started as a married couple and then went on to play siblings in the MCU. Still odd/interesting, but it doesn't ruin Godzilla for me when I go back and watch it since I know this movie released first and I know them originally as an on-screen married couple than siblings.
Her husband in Godzilla is played by the same actor who played Quicksilver, her brother, in the end credits scene to Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Both movies were released in 2014.
The real question is when Wanda inserted herself into Oldboy land get in on with Thanos in a human form? And why is he including Nick Fury and Mantis in a human form?
The blue fire is his signature Atomic Breath that he's had for ages. This is the first American movie since the shitshow in 1999. They've made so many great homages to the source material.
While that movie wasn't great, the sequel cartoon series actually was. The egg that hatches in the end of the movie grows up to be a proper Godzilla with atomic breath battling other monsters with the help of a human monster hunting team that he bonds with when he first hatches.
The original Japanese film in 1954 was a commentary on the atomic bombs dropped on Japan to end WWII in 1945. The Japanese govt. didn’t allow films about it, but they managed to disguise it in a monster movie.
@@rainbowpegacornstudios I'm still boggled how critics shitted on the 1984 movie for not being funny when the original 1954 featured deaths and suffering
Well, the Japanese gov of the day didn't allow films about it because they were the puppet regime of the Americans, who really didn't want to talk about the whole "we nuked two of your major cities in what was absolutely a war crime" thing.
There was a ton more action in KotM... but none of it could hold a candle to the final showdown here, imo. Godzilla 2014 was quality over quantity, which is my preference hands down.
Initially Godzilla was a force of destruction, he was kind of a commentary on atomic bombs especially considering Japan being nuked in WW2 but over time Godzilla kind of became a bit of an anti-hero neither good nor evil just a force of nature.
Over the past 60-plus years of Godzilla movies, there've been many different versions of Godzilla: sometimes a villain, sometimes a hero, sometimes in between.
Suprised to hear you say that the movie had too much action. All I ever see is people complaining that this movie didnt have enough action and that we only see Godzilla on screen for a few minutes. In fact they gave Godzilla much more screen time in the next movie, King of The Monsters, and people STILL complained that there wasnt enough action.
I think she said it had a lot of action, not too much action. But yeah, I remember people complaining that it focused too much on the human characters and didn't show enough fighting between monsters.
Caught this movie on TV long time ago and since most of the scene is set in darkness, plus the glare from my living room lights, I can't see Godzilla at all XDDD
@@nitrokidYeah. Unfortunately, the dickhead who copied the film for home video screwed up. Both in theaters and, ironically enough, on HBOMax, the lighting is balanced a _lot_ better
I am Japanese, and I felt that the tsunami scene in the 2014 Godzilla movie neatly recreated the realistic fear of tsunami that we saw in the Great East Japan Earthquake. I was glad to see that Godzilla is not only a flashy giant monster, but also a symbol of fear.
Seeing Godzilla at the airport for the first time in the theater was equivalent to watching the Portals scene in Avengers: Endgame, in terms of hype and excitement for me! :)
One could view this movie as a tragedy about a lovely giant insect couple who just want to have a nice radioactive meal and start an enormous family when they keep getting attacked, first by hordes of creepy little squishy bipeds and then by a giant electric-blue-flame-breathing lizard who kills them. Such a sad ending.
It's honestly super nice seeing your fresh perspective! I remember when this came out A LOT of people complained that there was no action because they focused solely on the monster fights with godzilla, but since that isn't what you were expecting you took in all the action and story for what it is!
As a young child on the playground, I would often get into "My dad can beat your dad." fights. They'd usually escalate until I'd claim my dad was Godzilla. Since then I've lovingly adapted the idea that Godzilla is in fact my dad. Seeing these films brought me a lot of joy.

1. Using the Godzilla roars to censor profanity = gold. 2. My biggest gripe with the movie is that it didn't use the original Godzilla theme. Loved that Godzilla: King of the Monsters used it. So epic.
The 1954 original Gojira was an anti-nuclear war film with G playing the role of the awakened monster of nuclear power. It was released just 9 years after nuclear bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki at the close of WWII. Meanwhile in the US- nuclear monster films were being churned out and they snapped up Gojira, edited and inserted scenes with Raymond Burr playing an American reporter and released 1956’s Godzilla.
Watch all the US sequels: Kong Skull Island, Godzilla KOM, Godzilla vs Kong. Also the modern Japanese version Shin Godzilla won best picture in Japan so it might be worth watching too.
I personally think she should build up to Shin with some of the classic films first. As much as I love that movie, I personally wouldn’t throw a newbie into it completely blind.
Godzilla (2014) is in my top 5 favorite films list simply for the blend of nostalgia and excellent direction and production all around the board. A real shame it doesn't get the credit it deserves as it imo stands above the rest of the movies in the monsterverse.
Much more in-line with the original Godzilla, who was a malevolent force of destruction explicitly modeled on the nuclear weapons dropped on Japanese cities.
Big G and his atomic breath was a real surprise. COnsidering how long the film went on without him using one of his signature abilities, I had a feeeling they werent going to use it in the film, so when his tail lit up, I was like "No.....no......NOOOO......." and the moment he unleashed it the theater I was like "YEESSSS! Crowd went crazy with clapping and I believe there was a Japanese American couple with theri grandfather and he was actually crying tears of joy, it was so sweet! I really miss going to movie theaters, but IM planning on getting vaxxed very soon anyway.
the Godzilla chirps whenever you curse was icing on the cake for this. Thanks Mary, always a joy to see someone experiencing the big G for the first time

This film was directed by English director Gareth Edwards who also directed Rogue One. He used to be a film special effects artist which is why his directing style and his films are so visually dark and pretty.
I know this is a old reaction and it may have already been said buuuuuuut I'll go ahead and say it. 1: *the monsters from the Godzilla universe don't eat everything nuclear. They absorb the radioactive energy that comes off it.* 2: *the monsters from the Godzilla universe can sense nuclear/radioactive energy. Thus why can find it to absorb it and the reason why the monsters can find each other too.* 3: *that's not ice and fire breathing. That is his atomic breath. The tip of his tail lights up and slowly moves up his back because he's gathering atomic energy in his body and moves it up to his mouth the emit his atomic breath blast like fire.* D: *you're right handed.*
@@TheDuncanStudios2000 well I have been a fan of Godzilla since the late 80s/early 90s. So I've learned a thing or 2 on the subject. Also it helps that one of my uncles has been a big fan of Godzilla since the 50s. I'm not a fan of these modern hollywood Godzilla movies though.
Over the years, there have been a bunch of depictions of Godzilla, and he's sometimes the savior, sometimes the monster. For instance, in the fairly recent Japanese film Shin Godzilla, he's a terrifying monster, and is supposed to symbolize the Fukushima nuclear disaster. (A large part of that movie is about how bureaucrats didn't get anything done during that disaster)

Something I always loved about this movie is that people are screaming immediately at the sight of the MUTO, but first sight of Godzilla makes everyone fall silent with awe.
Godzilla's atomic breath: "That came outta nowhere!" uh, no. his atomic breath has been there since the original 1954 movie. you should watch that one. and Shin Godzilla (2016) from Japan. nothing to do with the Monsterverse, its a stand alone, and they made Godzilla scarier than ever!

It's been a pop culture icon throughout my childhood. I'm 36 and i remember the nightmares i had when i was a kid. I was always the doofus inside the building he casually stepped on.
Fun Fact: Many of the atomic bomb tests were conducted at a remote island locale in the Marshall Island group known as Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean. The bikini (split 2 part women's swimwear) was the splitting of the upper and bottom portions of the atome (a one piece swimwear) "at Bikini Atoll they split the atom, with the bikini, we split the atome" I'm too young to remember the exact marketing language, but something to that effect was at one point brought to market.
If you ever, ever, need a franchise to dig through, Godzilla is the one to check out; 36 films (32 made in Japan) to the meazely 24 of James Bond! Most are guys in rubber suits stomping model cities and tanks with pyrotechniques blowing up all around them (some very close to the suits or on them!) with a range of tone from monster to friend of the children! It also feature some returning monsters for the American movies like Mothra, Rodan and King Gidora amonst others...
The scene at the beginning where Brian Cranston's wife dies is such a sad moment but I laughed my way through this reaction purely because of the Godzilla roar censoring sounds. Great job editor, that shi*"rrroooooarrr" was amazing!
In Elizabeth Olson and Aaron Taylor-Johnson's defense, they did Godzilla just before Wanda and Pietro were established in the MCU. As you watch these Monsterverse movies, you will see there are a LOT of MCU actors in this franchise as well.
The day after I watched this movie I watched Age of Ultron in in the theaters, threw me off too that it was the same actors as they movie I had just watched the day before :)

1. Using the Godzilla roars to censor profanity = gold.
2. My biggest gripe with the movie is that it didn't use the original Godzilla theme. Loved that Godzilla: King of the Monsters used it. So epic.
“those are the Giant Bugs” 😂😂😂😂😂😂 14:20
I'll recommend watching the original 1954 Godzilla. It still holds up today and is one of the greatest films ever made.
The design of Godzilla in Shin Godzilla is so wicked!
I think you should watch "Shin Godzilla" at somepoint. It's very haunting and different than the western Godzilla films.
It's different from every Godzilla, not just the western takes.
@@JustAnotherAlex Not much different
Thank you for getting vaxxed. ♥️
the Godzilla chirps whenever you curse was icing on the cake for this. Thanks Mary, always a joy to see someone experiencing the big G for the first time
Yucca Mountain was the main nuclear waste repository for the US. It's about 80 miles (129 km) northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada.
18:47 I love how one of the main suspension cables gets severed and just flops onto the road deck... which it was previously carrying half the weight of. Hollywood, learn to suspension bridge!
This film was directed by English director Gareth Edwards who also directed Rogue One. He used to be a film special effects artist which is why his directing style and his films are so visually dark and pretty.
🎵Oh no, there goes Tokyo, go go Godzilla🎵
🤣
ahhh I love that song
Yessss, such a fantastic film. The majority of this movie was filmed blocks from my house. I got to take soooo many set photos!
Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olson made this movie before they were cast in Avengers so it's slightly less creepy
I know this is a old reaction and it may have already been said buuuuuuut I'll go ahead and say it.
1: *the monsters from the Godzilla universe don't eat everything nuclear. They absorb the radioactive energy that comes off it.*
2: *the monsters from the Godzilla universe can sense nuclear/radioactive energy. Thus why can find it to absorb it and the reason why the monsters can find each other too.*
3: *that's not ice and fire breathing. That is his atomic breath. The tip of his tail lights up and slowly moves up his back because he's gathering atomic energy in his body and moves it up to his mouth the emit his atomic breath blast like fire.*
D: *you're right handed.*
Good job knowing your stuff!!
I have to admit, as soon as I saw the thumbnail I almost thought you were watching the 1998 movie then saw “(2014)” and then got relieved.
23:03 dude I cheered sooo damn loud in the theater, we all did. It was one of the best movie experiences. I grew up watching the old movies and to see that was amazing
Godzilla actually has a star on the Hollywood walk of fame
Is it an accurate sized footprint? Because that would take up some space lol.
Lmao I like how she filtered out every curse word until Godzilla did the kiss of death @ 24:55 and she said "Right down the fuckin throat!" Lmaooo too funny
There are dimensions in the Marvel Universe where it's not uncommon for Wanda and Pietro to get down.
The part you mentioned at 7:40 is very much like the show Chernobyl. I haven't seen it yet but I hear nothing but good things about it.
5:51 I liked the GoJira emote u used while saying the F word 😂😂...it was epic with the sound 😂
Fun fact, the 2014 Godzilla Alpha roar is made of real animal noises, over 120 animal noises were used, including the original Godzilla.
Those kids on the bus on the bridge are gonna have Godzilla PTSD. Also the Godzilla roar bleeps were great
Something I always loved about this movie is that people are screaming immediately at the sight of the MUTO, but first sight of Godzilla makes everyone fall silent with awe.
I have a feeling that Marvel saw their chemistry here and cast them in age of ultron and it has the same casting director
Godzilla's atomic breath: "That came outta nowhere!"
uh, no. his atomic breath has been there since the original 1954 movie. you should watch that one. and Shin Godzilla (2016) from Japan. nothing to do with the Monsterverse, its a stand alone, and they made Godzilla scarier than ever!
I love your reactions, they are just great. I love watching reactions and I’ve looked at a lot of people doing them but you’re my favorite. I love you❤❤
It's been a pop culture icon throughout my childhood. I'm 36 and i remember the nightmares i had when i was a kid. I was always the doofus inside the building he casually stepped on.
"Bryan cannot die, Bryan is the lead of this movie"
OH HOW RIGHT YOU ARE
This is the first time I've heard someone compare Godzilla to Anakin Skywalker. LOL
Longest running franchise in history. Over 30+ Godzilla films made over the last 67 years.
The cinematography in this movie was top notch.
Welcome to the journey, Mary.
Through out his franchise, Godzilla has shifted constantly between the role of savior and destroyer.
"Why is its tail blue now?"
Oh baby, you're in for a show tonight!
The scene at the beginning where Brian Cranston's wife dies is such a sad moment but I laughed my way through this reaction purely because of the Godzilla roar censoring sounds. Great job editor, that shi*"rrroooooarrr" was amazing!
Shin Godzilla is a good version of Godzilla set in Japan and how the government handles poorly a major disaster
Using Godzilla calls as a bleep made me realize that Mary swears like a sailor LOL!
I love Godzilla roar so much it gives me chills :D
In Elizabeth Olson and Aaron Taylor-Johnson's defense, they did Godzilla just before Wanda and Pietro were established in the MCU. As you watch these Monsterverse movies, you will see there are a LOT of MCU actors in this franchise as well.
14:18
The look on her face is priceless 🤣
The day after I watched this movie I watched Age of Ultron in in the theaters, threw me off too that it was the same actors as they movie I had just watched the day before :)
"2 against 1 thats not fair"
Godzilla laughing in atómic breath
As a long time Godzilla fan, I loved watching this with you. It's so interesting to see the perspective of someone who is completely unfamiliar with it. I would recommend the original Godzilla, but it really doesn't matter which Godzilla movie you watch... Unless it's Heisei...
