Great reaction M! Waited for ages to your reaction to this one!
Real Steel
Just FYI: Jaeger (correct spelling Jäger) is german. The english translation is "hunter".
Godzilla would destroy all the monsters both human made and not if he was in this.
You still haven't seen Transformers??? Please tell me you're planning on watching that!
Great reaction! Btw the Juagers are not "slow" They're just massive. The movie gets the scaling of giant creatures and robots very right.
Uh-huh!! I love the weight that the jaegers and kaiju had in this movie *chefs kiss*
Still slow
@@deckzone3000No, they cross cities in seconds. Definitely not slow.
@@deckzone3000Slow from our point of view. Those arms are moving hundreds of miles a hour.
And then they messed all of that up in the sequel, so they just don't look as believable anymore...
They aren't moving slow, they're just big. At that scale things seem slow, but that is how it should be unless they're moving at light speed. That is why this feel more real and the impact feel so great.
Big and slow.
@@deckzone3000 .....yeah surely your constant spam about slowness is really making a mark in the comments LoL
@@changsangma1915 some would say he's a "slow" learner lol
Fun fact: The A.I. voice of the Gypsy Danger is Glados from the Portal games
I love Portal
Yea Deltoro thought it would be funny😂
Im still amazed this movie came out 10 years ago and still loves good.
That's the mark of del Toro - he's a master of visuals. All his work still looks good!
Yep. Nothin' more badass than a Jaegar hitting a Kaiju with a tanker ship. :)
@@riveraharper8166 one of my favorite moments...
The guy with the glasses is Charlie Day, from IT'S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA. The other guy is Burn Gorman, an immensely talented character actor.
Also Luigi
Not to mention that he was Luigi
Burn Gorman is mostly known for is role of Owen Harper in Torchwood and Murtry in season 4 of The expanse. He also did some minor roles in various shows, including Game of thrones (one of the members of the night watch)
@@axlm.808 I remember him in GAME OF THRONES. He's been in so many things, I can't remember all of them. He was the villain in the series FOREVER on ABC.
@@axlm.808 He was also in Dark Knight Rises, and appeared in an episode of It's Always Sunny
edit: Just finished the video, didn't realize she already mentioned DKR, oops
Also, a little bit of info. There is an anime series called 'Pacific Rim: The Black' which takes place in Australia after it was taken over by Kaiju. Just in case you were interested.
I really like how you caught on to how slow it looked like they were moving. That’s one of the great things about this film, and a big reason why I think the second one just kinda sucked, is the sense of scale. Gigantic objects just look like they’re moving slowly, when in reality they’re actually moving quite fast. On the scale of the machines, they look slow, but from our own human scale they’re moving deceptively fast, and this film really manages to capture that feeling in a way that I don’t think any other film has ever really managed.
One of my favorite scenes from this film is when they get the sword out and Mako says in Japanese, "This is for my family." and slices the Kaiju in half. Fuckin' badass.
Jaegers are expensive to build hence why they are discontinuing the program. If I recall correctly there is food rationing in cities up and down the Pacific coast as a result of the Kaiju attacks.
Striker Eureka is a Mark-5 and is the newest fastest Jaeger in the service. It is also the only Mark-5 ever built before the program was discontinued in 2019.
Cherno Alpha is a Mark-1 and was one of seven Jaegers that were built back in 2015.
As mentioned in the film Gipsy Danger is a Mark-3. After the Alaska fight in 2020 with Knifehead, she is taken to Oakland, CA where the Jeager graveyard is located at. She was then rebuilt between 2023-2025 as part of the Mark-3 Restoration Program. The jaeger was enhanced with new weapons and features, including two chain swords, faster plasma cannon charging and improved body movements and reflexes.
The Jaegers may have been expensive to build but there's no way they cost more than a giant wall around the entire Pacific Rim.
@@michaelwong9411 Fair point. I do like the inclusion of stupid political nonsense in the idea of a giant wall to stop giant monsters. Remember though, they are losing Jaegers faster than they can rebuild them, and the rate of Kaiju attacks are increasing from every six months to just a week. Time is also running short which is cut drastically when Newt drifts with the Kaiju brain.
i would say, the they started the wall project, on the fact, that at the beginning, it stopped the kaiju, and after building would not have needed maintenance a lot, while buildibg jaeger, proved expensive in maintenance, while they even, when stopped, the fight, could have cost the lives of thousend of people... so far the plans i would think...
then came bigger and bigger kaiju and as always goverments could not admit their mis-calculations ald held on to the wallproject even when it became clear it was about to fail... because in it´s beginning, the wall completely protected against the kaiju, keeping them out.....
As a kid I loved this late '80s cheesy scifi/action movie called robotjox. It's about a future where dudes pilot giant robot mechs and fight each other. I've always figured that's likely an inspiration for the jagers. How they control them is even kinda similar.
Robot Jox was a great movie, I don't care what anyone says. Also, it actually came out in 1990 lol. Del Toro said the inspiration for the Jagers came from mecha anime, specifically mentioning Neon Genesis Evangelion.
Man the soundtrack the pace everything about this movie is great
Yes! One of my favs I went in with zero expectations and was amazed
I explained it to others, "do you want a deep plot? No? Do you want deep characters? No? Do you want giant robots and monsters beating the snot out of each other in high definition with great music? Yes? You're in the right place."
There really wasn't a romance though... It's one of the things that I love about the movie, the fact that they gave us a deep friendship between a man and a woman *without* it turning into a romance.
Yeah, after the drift, they became like brother and sister.
It was a romance
Nah it was a romance. There's that whole scene where she's staring at him while he's shirtless. She's clearly attracted to him.
Don't they kiss in the end?
@@19_meg_91 They don't but they do nuzzle each other. Frankly it's open to interpretation; you want it to be a romance, great, if you want it to be a close friendship, also great.
both part 1 and part 2 of pacific rim became my main inspiration of drawing
And where can we see your work?
Lola is such a gorgeous kitty.
Love the coloring.
Somehow I suspect she is just as spoiled as my Siamese, Princess Leah. LOL
Btw the reason why Crimson, Cherno and Striker (who was disabled with TMP) went down so easy is becouse the two cat. 4 Kaijus were build to counter them. When the doctor drift with Kaiju brain the info he gathered went both ways. We learn about them and they about us so they knew exact specs of those Jagers.
One of my favorite action movies of all time I really love watching this movie I can watch it over and over forever and the soundtrack is amazing as well
This movie's theme song is fantastic, definitely underrated.
I know Legendary owns this and the Monsterverse, how crazy would it be if there was Monsterverse movie where Godzilla swam through one of these dimensional rifts and fought/teamed up with Jaegars
It’s great that there was never a sequel. This movie is perfect on its own!
should have been a prequel with all the mark 1 jaegers instead of the sequel
I enjoyed more of the universe however they presented it.
I know someone on one of the special effects teams for Pacific Rim. Was involved in the creation of some of the creatures such as the baby one. Does really cool work. Loved this reaction. The edit was on point with those cut scenes. :)
4:57 - *“And then who would feed you? … I guess you'd feed on me.”*
Bonus points for realising _exactly_ how much your cat loves and cherishes you. As an entrée.
30:55 - *“Oh my gosh; look at all the fish.”*
Matthew Broderick as Dr. Niko Tatopoulos: That's a lot of fish.
Thanks for sharing your reaction to this crazy cult classic with us!
I'm so glad you enjoyed this great film, Mary! It's one of my favorites! 👏👏👏
I'm glad you enjoyed this movie, another fun one to watch is Battleship based on the game
You missed the end credits scene! Ron Perlman's character survived and cut himself out of the baby kaiju.
One month ago?! Gosh, I saw this when I was 7
This was really fun in the theater, great movie. Rinko Kikuchi (mako) is really cute, she was also in 47 ronin with keanu reeves and hiroyuki sanada. Mana ashida(little mako) couldn't pronounced Guillermo's name so he let her call him totoro. I usually despise the cheesy, annoying motivational speech before the last battle, but Idris did a pretty good job there
Totoro!? That's soo cute 🥰
My Neighbor Guillermo Totoro 🐼
I hope Mary Cherry watches 47 Ronin 🤩
In the after credits, Hannibal is still alive after being eaten
The actress that plays Mako was in another great movie called Babel with Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett!
Also the highly underrated "The Brothers Bloom."
Pacific Rim is such a blast of a movie.
17:00 Because he was actually there. He is the one who saved her.
Like the Bechdel-Wallace Test, there is now a Mako Test. A named woman character has a character arc of her own that directly affects the plot.
You just made me look up "Wallace" and why that would be part of it. Thanks, now I know what to say from now on!
Pacific Rim is a lot of fun! I have also had the unfortunate experience of watching Atlantic Rim...
I connect with you in pain
Ditto!
I mean, it wouldn't have been on Mystery Science Theater: 3000 if it wasn't bad, but, holy sh*t that movie was awful 😳 🤣
I love this movie! My daughter and I saw this together and she absolutely fell in love with it too. She is a Transformers fan so I knew she would. Idris Elba is my favorite actor and he never disappoints. I will not lie, it hit me in heart strings with the flip on narrative with Mako and Marshall...When the Marshall asks his daughter to protect him. Instead of the other way around. You can feel this is the pont father's reach when they are proud of woman their daughter became and she is ready to take on the world.
I am so happy you reacted to this. Keep up the amazing content
Charlie Day is hilarious. He plays Luigi in the new Super Mario Bros movie. Hannibal Chau isn't dead. There's a quick scene after the credits where he cuts himself out of the Kaiju and says, "Where's my goddamn shoe."
This movie inspired the writing of the book: Iron Widow, by Xiran Jay Zhao.
It's a mix of Pacific Rim, The Handmaid's Tale and The Hunger Games, with mechas driven by pilots that take women's inner energy until they die to transform their mechas into even more badass shapes and forms, and is focused on a woman that survived being used to drive a mecha and is designed to be the oartner of a seriao killer pilot; I truly recommend this one 😄🤗...!
Great book. Really looking forward to the sequel soon
Almost 10 years ago.
Saw this twice, once in IMAX and again in IMAX 3D.
The great Guillermo del Toro's love-letter to Sci-fi from Japan.
From the genres of Mecha (robot) and Kaiju (beast).
Because of shows like Power Rangers (Super Sentai) and Voltron (Beast King Golion/Dairuigger XV), machines and monsters have been going hand in hand, hand to hand for years.
The history within the movie itself is so well ploted.
How the world changed as these creatures came and the creations of the Jaeger program became so advanced for battle against them.
Great ensemble cast with Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Oscar nominee Rinko Kikuchi (Babel) and Idris Elba with a epic speech of lifetime.
Remarkable sets from the cities to the Jaeger base.
Killer effects to make absolute prime goodness.
The fights.......oh my god, the fights are plentiful to make our nerd dreams come true especially when the tie-in video game was available.
In 2018, there was a sequel aka "Uprising" and didn't dissapoint neither.
Also an anime aka "The Black" on Netflix that ran 2 seasons.
This whole universe and franchise is as colossal as it should be.
This fun film special to me. Was 19 when it came out while my lil bro was 4, I’d stand like an idle mech til he stood on my feet to pilot & fight deadly dog & invisible kaiju. We fought the monster war for 2 years
Lola is so adorable, Mary!! Just like her Mommy!! I love you both!! 🥰❤️🌹
ELBOW ROCKET is the best line of the movie.
Just that Gundan/Transformers feelings back again.
Love this movie to this day, and liked the reaction...minus the jump cuts... 😅
From what I know, there isn't actually any romance between Raleigh and Mako. It's just two damaged people who have both lost a lot, but it"s only a deep connection, a bond between them. While there is an alternate scene where they kiss in the end (dunno if it made it to the DVD release or was left on the cutting room floor), but the director deliberately wanted to avoid the Hollywood romance cliche.
Also, in a weird way, I'm glad you approve of the Aussie accents 😄 Funnily enough, the two guys were played by an Englishman and an American, but I guess both managed to do a decent job...
Gottlieb was played by the actor Burn Gorman, who has appeared in a number of interesting TV shows and films. I first saw him in the Doctor Who spinoff series Torchwood, but he's also appeared in Game of Thrones, The Man in the High Castle, The Expanse, and Halo, among many other projects.
I prefer and like the Yeager to be seen like they were slow. In my opinion, with this I can see how heavy and impactful each blow the Yeager made. Considering the size of the Yeagers, it's relatively heavy and this made it slower to move.notice tht jipsy danger were analog. Which means the number of moving parts inside her double the ratio from other Yeager tht are non analog. Thts also why it felt like jispy are a bit slower
Lola just sitting there not paying no mine to what you were telling her. “Yeah sure. You gonna pick me up and pet me or not? Speaking of food it’s almost dinner time.”
Brilliant casting in this movie. Hiring older actors really gave the impression these guys were scarred veterans on their last gasp. If they’d gone with teenagers it would have been too power rangers
Mary I loved your reaction to Pacific Rim I saw this movie a long time ago in theaters 2013 when I was young !!! And your reaction is Magnificent ❤ Thanks for bringing a Lola🐈
raileigh and mako, had more than a lovestory.... i would say, they got FRIENDS....
When I first saw the machines, it reminded me of Gundam. Cool TV show I saw growing up
Actually makes for an nteresting combination between the styles of Eastern and Western mecha fiction; the sleek designs of Eastern with the clunkier weight of the Western.
Ah, yes, every cat owner's realization: the cat will eat you if you die before them.
Only true cat owners are happy to provide for their cats even after death.
Can’t wait for Monsters Vs Aliens, which ironically also has a giant monster and robot in San Francisco which is in Pacific waters. Go figure.
Gottlieb was also in The Expanse, playing Murtry. He was the head of security on Ilus/New Terra during season 4.
One of my favourite movies ever. For me the best parts of your reaction were your impressions of Newton, Hermann, Chuck and Herc, not to mention the Tubthumping reference lmao
Huge kudos to an English actor and an American actor doing very respectable Australian accents!
I think it would be less distracting if one of those actors were David Wenham or Richard Roxburgh 😄.
Didn’t know much about it when I first watched it, but became one of my favorite movies and story series
If you haven't watched any "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia" yet, you need to do a reaction series on that. Charlie Day (the kaiju-enthusiast scientist in this) is one of the creators/main cast, and it is amazing, my favorite live-action comedy show of all time.
I highly recommend checking out the extended lore especially the novel and the comics they flesh things out
The Netflix series is also great
Pacific rim is honestly the best film out there amongst this genre like seriously. Kaiju , sci fi , monster verse , robots action .....what more do you want . I remember people had mixed emotions about this when it was released but in like few weeks of time as more people like me watched it , the fan base bloomed significantly . This is probably the best ever movies out there with the concept and it's application with a great storyline.
❤️❤️❤️ the way you imitated the father and son lol 🤣🤣🤣
Great movie and Great react!! Your Charlie Day impression was hilarious
Mary to Lola "I guess you'd feed on me"
Every simp here: "luckyyyyy 🤤" 😂😂😂😂
If you like Charlie Hunnam (Raleigh), you've got 7 seasons of him as Jax Teller, the main character in Sons of Anarchy. And Hellboy plays his stepfather, Clay.
Loved that series. Never missed an episode.
Oh myghadddd finally you reacted to it 🤣❤️🤣❤️
One of my favorite films! Not only are the action set pieces exceptional.. (sword.. initializing.. lol) but I love the decision to go with a more sibling rivalry and affection than the cliche romantic love interest.. made the movie so much more wholesome and unique for that.. glad you enjoyed it! .. Elysium, Niel Blomkamp's sophomore film, I think would be a good one for you! Chappie as well I think you would vibe with.. kthxbye
The reason why the 3 jaegers got destroyed so easily is because due to newton drifting with the Kaiju the precusers learned info on the jaegers and how to counter them otachi had a clawed tail to keep crimson typhoon at bay and acid to melt Cherno alpha armor and Cherno is big and heavy leatherback is massive and is quicker cuz it’s organic it also had the emp to counter striker eureka the only reason gipsy danger won is because it was not predicted and is a mk3 upgraded with mk5 tech the two Kaiju otachi is smart and cunning to fight leatherback uses it anger and rage to fight
"Comencing neural link in 5, 4, 3, 2", *ICarly intro* 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What a great movie and a great movie reaction...the perfect combination...keep 'em coming mary.
seeing this movie, when it came out in imax, was a whole other experience....
Jax and clay killed it! Its always sunny in Kaijudelphia!! Idris was well, Idris!! 🤙🏻
This movie, even though it's not based on anime, is a great live action anime type movie, some may have compared it to Transformers and Godzilla, but anyone who's watched a mecha anime are very familiar with this type of story, even the romance is very anime right down to the main couple not really getting together leaving us to wonder if they will.
Right? i always compared it to Mobile Suits vs Godzilla
I think Superman II with Zod is also good. The 3rd is debatable, the 4th was silly according to others.
This movie was amazing love the video Mary stay motivated dream big 1 mill on the way
@24:05 OMG when that computer started talking I immediately recognized it as the voice of GlaDos :).
It’s a two way street meaning the kaiju can see fotlieb (or however it’s spelled) memories and see how the jeagers fight but because gipsy has no pilot and was not active when fotlieb joined the resistance so the kaiju didn’t know how to fight gipsy. Also take into account how dangerous Rayleigh and stacker going solo is, the only two to ever go solo the strain could make you black out and most likely kill you. Yeah I know it’s theoretical but I’ve read up on so much of this movie I find it so interesting
I’ve been waiting so long yes thank you for this
Sorry that you missed the after credit scene.
Also, Hannibal Chu had exclusive access to the Kaiju corpses because he funded the Jaeger Program after the world governments stopped and he got the money from selling the pieces/parts on the black market. So it was a symbiotic relationship. Hannibal funded the Jaegers so that the Jaegers could give him Kaiju corpses, and he sold the corpse parts to fund the Jaegers.
I really like this movie. It copies Independence Day beat-for-beat, but that movie just works as a fun popcorn flick and so does this one. It's a lot of fun.
This was fantastic to watch in IMAX 3D back when it came out.
Mary! When you’re in a comedy mood, you’ve gotta see 3 movies, especially after your Naked Gun trilogy - National Lampoons Loaded Weapon! & Hot Shots part 1 & 2. You won’t regret ✌🏻
Great reaction Mary :) I quite enjoy this film, sadly the second one doesn't live up to the first, but is still an interesting watch.
Personally I found the cut scenes a bit distracting after about the 5th one, the younger watchers probably enjoy it though lol
In the movie, when the translation of Mako said that she would miss Idris Elba's character, it was a drastic mistranslation. What she had actually said was that she loved him, presumably as a father-figure and mentor.
If you want to check out an anime that's very similar in a number of themes to Pacific Rim, I recommend taking a look at Shinkon Gattai Gōdan'nā!!, (sold as Marriage of God & Soul Godannar!! in North America). It's also shortened to just Godannar.
i used to watch this movie when i was 11 years old and you reed my mind about rewatch this movie my fav character is raleigh becket
Here's my tidbits for this film:
1. not all of the Jaeger pilots here are siblings, the only ones are Raleigh and his late brother Yancy, as well as the Chinese triplets that piloted the Three Armed Jaeger. The others were a married Couple (The Russian Pilots), a Father and a Son (the Australian Pilots). the pilots just need to have the same kind of brain "pattern" or let's just say "state of mind" or "Personality". Mako and Raleigh connected because of their shared trauma from loss (Raleigh's brother, and Mako's Parents), while Marshal Stacker (Idris Elba) is just so mentally sound that he doesn't bring any trauma or personality into the drift, thus he doesn't affect Chuck's (the australian son) brain personality, and he also is unaffected by Chuck's Father complex.
2. not everyone realizes this, but the "training fight" that they do to choose Raleigh's pilot partner isn't about winning, that's why he was having trouble with finding a partner. Drift Pilots are supposed to be in sync, and to find a right partner, you need to find someone who can fight you beat for beat. if Raleigh could beat his sparring partner with a big score lead, or vice versa and Raleigh got his ass kicked, it's obviously proof to how the two don't have the same state of mind, but if you could play beat for beat and get a perfect tie, that shows how much the two could read each others minds and show how in sync they are. that's why Mako was perfect as a partner, unfortunately, Mako's inexperience with the drift soured their first test piloting in the middle of the film as she got caught up in her memory.
You think Gottlieb and Newton's relationship was weird in the movie. Wait until to see the fan art...so much fan art😮
Do i wanna know?? 😂😂😂
And also too much fanfiction
2:49 if you like the narrators voice (Charlie Hunnam who is Raleigh in the movie) he has some good stuff out there. “King Arthur:The Legend of the Sword”, and “Sons of Anarchy” TV series. “Sons of Anarchy” is a good series about a motorcycle gang in California. It lasted seven seasons. 11:21 this isn’t intense really it’s flirting. They’re doing the dance of love. 13:27 this is what happens when you have two competing fields who think their way is the right way. 17:00 one thing I don’t like about this movie is the Marshall tracks Raleigh down for him to help fight cause Raleigh is just like him but he treats Raleigh like a newbie. 18:46 though in this case he’s not in the field seeing real time what’s going on so the ones in the field sometimes have to make a judgement call.
Love seeing this in the theater still wanting for a gundam movie someday
The giant monster fights genre go way back in Japan, Godzilla being the earliest one I think, they coined the term Kaiju. It’s what inspired franchises like Ultraman and Power Ranger.
lol speaking of miss hearing things... I thought it was "today we are cancer in the apocalypse" not "today we are cancelling the apocalypse". Glad you enjoyed it.
21:45 He’s the illegitimate offspring of Godzilla and King Kong. 😆
The baby kaiju pretty much self strangled itself, accidentally without realizing.
10/10 video for Lola. All videos with a good kitty are 10/10
I LOVE PACIFIC RIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I really love this movie. I love that they had the great robots versus monsters battles, but more than that... they understood on a fundamental level that those battles wouldn't mean anything if we didn't have a powerful connection with the characters first and foremost. They got that, and they worked very well with it. And Del Toro was very conscious about including the small alongside the big, like when the Jager's back heel bumps the post at the dock, and a seagull flies off of it, or the Newton's Cradle gets bumped, causing it to start. It's just that kind of a little pallet cleanser to bring you back down a little bit, so that you don't just get overloaded with up and up movement.
Mary, regarding The Transformers movies; if you ever decide to give the 1986 Movie a watch I would recommend watching several select episodes of the original's season one and two (season three are post movie episodes) available on youtube so as to experience the same whiplash we as kids felt when it debuted.
"It runs so slow."
It looks that way because of how enormous it is. A Jaeger can cover more than 30 meters with a single step, so you'd be struggling to keep up in a car even when it's at walking speed.
Guillermo: **kicks down door** "What if... big robot punch big monster?"
Producer: **slams down briefcase of cash** "Fucking sold!"
Hola Mary. Love your channel. Greetings from Puerto Rico.
Too bad they never made a sequel to this movie.
6:45 This is the film that really made me think about that. The Englishman is playing American. The Australian is playing English. the American is playing Australian lol
Mary hope you keep watching the American pie films we all want it :D
