  • Aged 28 Sarah Höfflin won an Olympic Gold Medal in Slopestyle skiing for Switzerland. However, to get this far she followed a very unusual path. After graduating with a degree in neuroscience and realising she didn’t like the 9-5 lifestyle, she decided to dedicate herself to skiing ultimately representing her country. Today she is an example for young women wishing to compete in a male dominated field, that everything is possible if you work hard enough. To achieve her goals she had to face challenges and make sacrifices, which shaped the person she is today. In her talk she highlights the importance of matching ambitions to your abilities bringing forward examples from her life in entertaining and insightful ways. - This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. I don´t know why.. but this actually really helped. I put such high standards for what I want to achieve in life.. i get depressed when I work hard and people just take advantage and then I still don´t grow professionally or they just don´t really care and they go with their favorites/friends either way.. and of course I get depressed every time.. I kinda just really needed to hear this.

Margarida, we just never know who or what incident will make an impact on us and gets stuck in our mind. You’re a young professional, ignore the noise and go for your goals. There’s a reason people say “it’s lonely at the top” . Best wishes!!

No expectations. Just enjoy what you’re doing.♥️

Good concept. I feel like another way of doing this is to create your big ambitious goals and then crystallize them down into small actionable pieces. Then, forget about the big goal and just focus on the small steps required to get there.

Having high expectations is bound to disappoint. Lowering my expectations in all facets of life has improved my sanity.

I relate to this in so many levels. Having high expectations make us delusional. Thank you for this talk, it helps me keep my sanity 😊

I’m 56, free styled skied, support my kids and grandkiddos what ever they love to do in life, it’s their own journey, they have me always cheering them on... 💖🕊💖 Be the one that does doing what you love, bit what others expect of, that’s their own story, it’s not your own story. 💖

I'm 25 years old, just did a Masters' in English and really want to be a sports journalist simply because that will mean I can watch and go to all the events I can. Perhaps this dream drives me too hard because you first should do something for your pleasure and not the needs of others or a given timeline.

I do that with movies. It helps to make the movie a little bit better. Maybe I should do this with finding a job or dating.

Hey again I was thinking about this theme and one of the most disabling things there is ,is probably disappointment when we set our expectations too high and don't achieve them we open the door for disappointment, maaaaan ! How many times did I fall for that one ,the good news is the Lord always pics me up let's me know how much He loves me and I don't have to impress Him any way thanks young lady feeskeing is my favorite. I have high expectations due to being controlling. I am controlling with family, friends and that makes me a stiff man with no freedom. I'm seeking this cause maybe i'll find love out of all this high expectations thats pulling me back from being free.

I've read somewhere that the audience does not want you to be nervous because it makes them uneasy. When I hear her voice trembling, I sense a certain amount of apprehension.
