How hard must it have been for this man to sing that song. He sang it because of his love and strong friendship with Johnny Cash. I have nothing but the upmost respect and admiration for this great songwriter and what he has given to the world. Why in the name of god has he not been honoured by the Kennedy Centre.

Always reminds of my dad,,big big drinker,,wasted 30 yaers of his life looking into a glass,,but then found soberiety & for the last 20 yrs has been my top man,,,God bless you P.... love this song...kristofferson nails it..Beautiful.
"The Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken" takes me immediately back to any Sunday morning in my home in the 60s. Off to Sunday school, then to church service, and home to mom fryin' chicken. Sometimes she would invite the pastor to dinner and that meant the whole spread, chicken, mashed taters, corn and homemade biscuits. Ahh, sweet memories.
Kris is indeed the North Star. I once went to the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, CA and found out that Kris was the featured performer that night. I was so thrilled I teared-up! He did not disappoint as he's a consummate showman. He was a brilliant star in very humble surroundings that night. If you ever have a chance to see him play DO NOT miss it!
Remember... THIS is the song a then unknown Kris landed his helicopter on Johnny's lawn to give him a tape of in a desperate attempt to get his music known. Johnny recorded it, and Kris "never had to work again". Thanks, Johnny. For everything, but especially for helping this unknown kid get the start we are all grateful for. Legend to legend...
Poor Kris you can tell he is tearing up the whole time he is singing the song. He's having a hard time singing the song. I can't believe it's almost been 5 years since Johnny Cash died. He's one of my favorite Classic Country singers, and I listen too him as much as I can.
One of the best written songs ever. So many classic lines in the song but my favorite is "And it echoed through the canyon Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday." Powerful words, the genius of Kris Kristofferson!
Soooooo magnificent never ever be words Soooooo poinient a true master piece and also a genius but all his lyrics are soooooo heartwarming and only Kriss could write them❤❤❤❤❤
Kris' words brought tears to my eyes. Johnny Cash was the North Star. You could find your way by following him. What great men--Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard. Ain't nothin short of dying half as lonely as no sound of Johnny Cash, Kris, Merle, Waylon, or Willie.
You can feel how moved he is when he talks about JCash and mentions that he was the North Star...I love his lyrics, his way of singing and his being so humble. This song is a real masterpiece!Keep it up, Kris. Lots of people love you.xx
Kris Kristofferson you nevermet me and had you... I could have told you how your song prevented me from suicide... I've listened to you since I was twelve and then nothing until I was 50y years old. Dont you dare leave me I need you xxxx

I got sober 16 years ago and this song meant so much to me at that time when I was struggling to find my way. I don't know if Mr Kristoffersen had a problem with drink but this song is just so insightful . . . what a powerful, powerful song. 10 thumbs up for this one!
Yes Kris had a very bad problem with booze and at one time a problem with drugs but, be over came both greatest song writter ever to me! What made him start the booze and drug he had stage fright!
I was going to say, anyone been there , I,ve been there . There is so much insight in this song . When he,s singing it flashes me back . It really reminds me where I never want to be again . I have 14 years alcohol free , and I still have to fight urges ,seldom but they sneak up . Last summer it was hot and I got done sawing logs into firewood , I thought wow what a cold crisp Budwiser would do to wash down the grit . I could taste it . I stopped and prayed and thanked the Lord that I was clean.
Thankfully and by God's grace I've never been there. I see many on the streets of Orlando who are struggling with substance addiction. I don't know how I missed that curse as alcoholism was in my family. So very thankful.
I lost my Dad (He was my North Star) just two months before Johnny passed. I know the pain Kris felt singing this for his great friend. I'll never know how he got through it, I can't even listen without breaking down. God bless you Kris and the love and respect you showed Johnny.
This his song is my most favorite song of the all kind of music that I listening, from baroque music, rock, country, and others... and I often singing it. Thanks Kris for all his works as musician and movie actor. 👍
Front pew of the Salvation Army mission...snow's falling out side and it's 26 degrees. The smell of stale beer, urine and sweat permeates the air to the accompaniment of the hacking coughs heard from every corner in the room....and then silence as this grizzled man steps to the podium and sings Amazing Grace...and the place just falls apart. Thanks Kris, we'll never forget your gift to us on that cold winter day long ago.

I sure can relate to this song - spent far too many Sunday mornings like this after loosing everyone and everything who and that meant the world and all to me. Due to my alcoholism, and other substance abuse, those terrible conquences became my life . But, somewhere along the way I found a God who had the incredible mercy to deliver me from that 34 years of living hell. That was nearly 14 years ago -- The consequences of my addictions and the bad choices that went along with them can make still make the line "and there's nothin' short of dying, quite as lonesome as the sound, of a sleeping city sidewalk... and Sunday morning coming down" all too painful to remember, but I thank God that for a very long time I haven't had had to live that way. If any of you out there reading this can relate all too well to the words of this incrediblly truthful song, due to whatever reason -- have hope -- there is a higher power -- the Highest power -- who can change you and your life no marrer how hopeless to may seem. Hold on and keep saying 1 more prayer - you CAN become a walking miracle... just like me. God bless you all - and especially you Mr. Kristopherson. Your song makes me remember where I never want to go again. Somedays I still need that reminder pretty badly and because of you it's there.
Many people can connect with this song about alcoholism and/or triumph. It does not connect with me. What is amazing to me is his writing this song! It is so visionary to me, every line I can place an image, and of course the words and phrases he used. And, it is such a Johnny Cash song! It is no wonder why Cash picked it. And, Me and Bobby McGee!! Wow!! RIP Kris Kristofferson!
I remember when Sunday Mornings were special. Family and friends gathering for a morning and a kick-ass early supper at Grandma's. Life was easy and living was easier.
Kris and Willie were two of the greatest in many generations. Their use of metaphors and imagery, along with their message have yet to be topped in this century.
This is a song that makes sense in so many ways . I've been here a few times my self and it always makes me think of good old days. I've changed now , but them days was still some of the best ....

Kris Kristofferson was a Rhodes Scholar. Which means he was some sort of genius. He could have gone on to become the Prez.of the U.S of A. but he chose the hard struggle to make his name in music. Good choice.
i lived near the cash family and john was a different person in front of public but at home he was not a happy fella. nobody hated john more than john. just fyi
I saw Johnny Cash perform live twice in my life when I was young & busy with life. Learned to appreciate his genius & his wonderful music as I got older!
It's a song that encapsulates the realization of loneliness. When you wake up to nobody and see the world of paths not taken and dreams that never came to be. It's a beautiful work of art. A snippet in time manifest in song.
I’m 32 and I grew up with my dad listening to the Highway men they are almost all gone. But I still get chills when I here kris sing. And my dad has been gone for 5 yrs now and when he drew his last breathe. He looked at me and said I’m headed down hill like a snowball headed for hell.
Wonderful voice! 👍💓🎸 Well, I woke up Sunday morning, With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt. And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, So I had one more for dessert. Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes, And found my cleanest dirty shirt. An' I shaved my face and combed my hair, An' stumbled down the stairs to meet the day. I'd smoked my brain the night before, On cigarettes and songs, I'd been pickin'. But I lit my first and watched a small kid, Cussin' at a can that he was kicking. Then I crossed the empty street, 'n caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken. And it took me back to somethin', That I'd lost somehow, somewhere along the way. On the Sunday morning sidewalk, Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned. 'Cos there's something in a Sunday, Makes a body feel alone. And there's nothin' short of dyin', Half as lonesome as the sound, On the sleepin' city sidewalks: Sunday mornin' comin' down. In the park, I saw a daddy, With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin'. And I stopped beside a Sunday school, And listened to the song they were singin'. Then I headed back for home, And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'. And it echoed through the canyons, Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday. Do do do do do do do do, Do do do do do do do, Do do do do do do do do, Do do do do do do do
Thanks so much for posting these wonderful live videos. Almost breaks your heart to see him fight back his tears. One of the great ones we are fortunate to still have with us and what an honor it must have been to see him
A little background on Kris Kristofferson who I have followed since the 1960s. He was a Rhodes Scholar and an Army officer, a helicopter pilot. One of his first attempts at song writing was a song about an officer on his way to Vietnam who encountered war protesters and saw them as a dirty group of undesirables. Later he resigned his commission and became anti-Vietnam War. I also served in Vietnam and while there learned what a farce it was and that is one of the reasons that I have loved his music so much.
Kris landed a helicopter on Johnny Cash's yard to give him a tape of his songs when he was trying to break into country music. His lyrics are pure poetry
.....at Lake Tahoe, 1987, ''for the good times''... and all the memories of an era long gone,...those memories to keep of the GOOD TIMES for sure.,Thank you, Kris for some great memories..

Im 19 users old turning 20 next month I've been listing to johny cash and all the country legends for about a year now and all I can say is this is the best music in the world I listen to rap rock metal hip hop everything and this is what I consider the best so many legends and their personalities there is nothing like it almost all of these people are gone and it's like looking into another world a world I wish I could be part of
Heartfelf rendition by Kris, you can fell the emotion through his gravelly voice. I like to listen to this on a Sunday morning as I recall my "stupid" years.
Richie Rich Kristopherson was a teacher at West Point in the Mid 60s and quit and moved to Nashville to write songs. Ledgend has it that he landed an helocopter on Johnny Cashs lawn and gave him this song.
Richie Rich He was a musician before he was an actor. He was an officer in the U.S. Army before that.He was a little bit unique. His family actually disowned him because he left the military to pursue his musical career.Funny world isn't it?
Cash had salvation and that calmness it gave him exuded love...I don't do nobody's religion but mine, but I'd say Rev Cash carried the message, he was the story teller with a sweet daddy bass to his voice that soothed us, made us feel protected. now its our turn to be the old guard. He gave us a good example of redemption, his job here finished. ✌
If Kris Kristofferson had never done one single other thing, his writing this song would have made him a towering figure in country and folk music.
Are you forgetting Bobbie magi?
Awesome song. carried me thru some bad times.
How hard must it have been for this man to sing that song. He sang it because of his love and strong friendship with Johnny Cash. I have nothing but the upmost respect and admiration for this great songwriter and what he has given to the world. Why in the name of god has he not been honoured by the Kennedy Centre.

There will never be another generation of singers like Cash, Kristofferson, Haggard the music they are putting out today cant hold a candle to this.
Ray Oliver Totally agree. Sad isn't it?
Ray Oliver it sure is.is.aussie is no better
So very true. I'm not even sure that some of the songs they call sing today can even be described as music, yet alone called country music
There will be no sentence written that I agree with more👍👍
Don't forget Willie
If Mr. Kristofferson only wrote this one song he would still be a genius.
Always reminds of my dad,,big big drinker,,wasted 30 yaers of his life looking into a glass,,but then found soberiety & for the last 20 yrs has been my top man,,,God bless you P.... love this song...kristofferson nails it..Beautiful.
Wow, I have never heard it that way before ...... "looking into a glass". That is a phrase for the writers!
Same for me, but with hush puppies and iced tea.

Wrong song. Kris said no one ever recorded the song in that demo tape. He said John liked to embellish the story.
Poor Kris you can tell he is tearing up the whole time he is singing the song. He's having a hard time singing the song. I can't believe it's almost been 5 years since Johnny Cash died. He's one of my favorite Classic Country singers, and I listen too him as much as I can.

It is so visionary to me, every line I can place an image, and of course the words and phrases he used. And, it is such a Johnny Cash song! It is no wonder why Cash picked it. And, Me and Bobby McGee!! Wow!! RIP Kris Kristofferson!
The one and only Kris Kristofferson and the greatest country song ever written
Hope Easter
Kris is such a brilliant songsmith. For the genre he is very original yet authentic.
If you can get that mix you've nailed it.
Of all of the Rhodes Scholar country music singers, Kris Kristofferson is my absolute favorite !!
This is a song that makes sense in so many ways . I've been here a few times my self and it always makes me think of good old days. I've changed now , but them days was still some of the best ....

I grew up on this man's music. I'm such a big fan of the singer and the songwriter. "Darby's Castle" is one of my particular favorites.
U Know I Look Back In the years and remenber these songs and think how good it was back then
Rest easy, legend. Thanks for being the soundtrack to so many events in my life.
Kris Kristofferson was a Rhodes Scholar. Which means he was some sort of genius. He could have gone on to become the Prez.of the U.S of A. but he chose the hard struggle to make his name in music.
Good choice.
He and his ideology would be good for this country. Would be awesome as our leader. He chose to be an advocate for vets instead.
I concur.
Brian Vittachi .Also a helicopter pilot in the US Army.
Joseph Mellen - so true. Also an army ranger.
dude signed up for NAM as an Army Ranger Helicopter Pilot... his family disowned him... he was OUTLAW country
saw Kris in Belfast a few years ago. It was a wonderful experience. love him.
John was a North Star, and you could guide your ship by it. ..........So sweet .Great Job Kris! RIP Johnny. See ya on the other side of Jordan.
Kris, John, Waylon, Willie, Merle. In no specific order.
Johnny Cash is rocking out in heaven .........................
i lived near the cash family and john was a different person in front of public but at home he was not a happy fella. nobody hated john more than john. just fyi
My Mom enlightened me to this fellas philosophy and I happened to get hooked on what I thought was his truth......
I love this this man ..his tunes are so real ..best singer i have ever heard ❤❤
+Paula Mcmullan me too
+Paula Mcmullan have you listened to Waylon Jennings?
I love Kris too, but in my opinion Johnny Cash is the best.
you bet! Paula McMillan Saussy Gustafson. never will be.
I saw Johnny Cash perform live twice in my life when I was young & busy with life. Learned to appreciate his genius & his wonderful music as I got older!
One of the best country music songs of all time.
thank you. this reminded me of the happy childhood I had growing up in a house always filled with music. Bless you for that.💕😥🙏
Sunday's always were always rough this song seems to capture that feeling. D
You can tell how much Kris loved Johnny Cash as a friend he is very teary eyed and choked up during this performance. RIP Johnny.
So much emotion. My all time favourite. So rare... So beautiful.
Celtic woman
It's a song that encapsulates the realization of loneliness. When you wake up to nobody and see the world of paths not taken and dreams that never came to be. It's a beautiful work of art. A snippet in time manifest in song.
When country was _country._
Good Morning America...Thank you so much, I LOVE country music
Kris, Johnny, and this song are a blessing from God.
I’m 32 and I grew up with my dad listening to the Highway men they are almost all gone. But I still get chills when I here kris sing. And my dad has been gone for 5 yrs now and when he drew his last breathe. He looked at me and said I’m headed down hill like a snowball headed for hell.
這首歌超輕鬆、超好聽、超懷念當時年輕的種種情景。

Wonderful voice! 👍💓🎸
Well, I woke up Sunday morning,
With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt.
And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad,
So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes,
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
An' I shaved my face and combed my hair,
An' stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.
I'd smoked my brain the night before,
On cigarettes and songs, I'd been pickin'.
But I lit my first and watched a small kid,
Cussin' at a can that he was kicking.
Then I crossed the empty street,
'n caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken.
And it took me back to somethin',
That I'd lost somehow, somewhere along the way.
On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cos there's something in a Sunday,
Makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin',
Half as lonesome as the sound,
On the sleepin' city sidewalks:
Sunday mornin' comin' down.
In the park, I saw a daddy,
With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin'.
And I stopped beside a Sunday school,
And listened to the song they were singin'.
Then I headed back for home,
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'.
And it echoed through the canyons,
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.
On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cos there's something in a Sunday,
Makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin',
Half as lonesome as the sound,
On the sleepin' city sidewalks:
Sunday mornin' comin' down.
Do do do do do do do do,
Do do do do do do do,
Do do do do do do do do,
Do do do do do do do

You have the best country Singer in Amerika , Johnny and June i Love this Singer Love from sweden
+John Love, Thank you some of this info I never knew.

Nice story god bless you brother
Kris landed a helicopter on Johnny Cash's yard to give him a tape of his songs when he was trying to break into country music. His lyrics are pure poetry
.....at Lake Tahoe, 1987, ''for the good times''... and all the memories of an era long gone,...those memories to keep of the GOOD TIMES for sure.,Thank you, Kris for some great memories..
The lyrics in this song are brilliant.

Sunday Morning Coming Down....
2015...Counting Down!
Beautiful voice, sad lyrics, great artist. Poetry in music!!
love his movies and his singing.
I knew he's always been a good actor! But I didn't know he sings too!
