Amazing, isn't it? As a huge Johnny Cash fan, I was thrilled to watch this tribute show when it first came on and it sure does not seem like twenty years ago. I wondered at the time what Kris must have felt like to hear someone sing a song he had written as beautifully as Trisha did. The whole show was great. It is available on cd and dvd if you want to hear or see it again.
It makes me crazy somedays what people don't notice. Trisha Yearwood has that perfect blend of beautiful tone, raw feeling and downtown phrasing. Country music fans don't get a lot. She's a great singer who made beautiful albums. Had some hits. But Trisha was slept on, all the damn time. I love this song and she's perfect for it. It takes a growl and a long phrase. She's not perfect - which makes it perfect. Coming down. Gutsy.
I actually feel that PATTY LOVELESS with her unique style voice would have been much better .But Trisha was not bad .Her voice is not powerful enough for that particular song .SORRY Trisha. ELIZABETH xxx❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I have to agree with the first commented, yes she gas a beautiful voice but this is a song about loneliness and wondering if you have anywhere to go. You have to have those same feelingds to truly understand the power of the words IMHO this is the greatest song or poem written in this century.
In Ireland 🇮🇪 I prefer Kris kristophenson and Johnny cash singing it as them 2 men have walked the line seen done wore tge t-shirt. God bless kris today with lyne disease ..and roxanne cash singing with kris kristophenson is beautiful too RIP to the man in black
Onky one KRIS ..never will we hear anyone ..hes the hero legend..rip johnny cash onky Kris and johnny has the rrue feeling brought to us the people have the rrue neaning to the song. Kris kristophenson has Lyme disease 2023 but when he sang with Roxanne cash i cried in ireland ..as roxanne cash is a true honest grounded women like kris a grounded nan but johnny cash daughter roxanne sings beautiful with WALK THE LINE BY HER DADDY THE MAN IN BKACK .RIP HERO JOHNNY CASH .
I lived the life.Sank to almost rock bottom.Lower than where Kris was when he wrote the song. And I lived my life like I was on permanent holiday..I still had dignity.I totally relate to Trisha.

This is a tribute people! Jonny Cash would be honoured to hear Trisha and Kris cover this song I'm sure they both have experienced hard times before making it...Well done Thanks For being real love you Trisha 💖
Love this so much. Thanks. Trisha's husband, Garth Brooks, has put her vocal abilities in the top 5 female voices in the world today. I live in the UK and not many people here know about the divine voice of Miss Yearwood. 💐🎤
Lyrics: Well, I woke up Sunday morning, With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt. And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, So I had one more for dessert. Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes, And found my cleanest dirty shirt. An' I shaved my face and combed my hair, An' stumbled down the stairs to meet the day. I'd smoked my brain the night before, On cigarettes and songs, I'd been pickin'. But I lit my first and watched a small kid, Cussin' at a can that he was kicking. Then I crossed the empty street, 'n caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken. And it took me back to somethin', That I'd lost somehow, somewhere along the way. On the Sunday morning sidewalk, Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned. 'Cos there's something in a Sunday, Makes a body feel alone. And there's nothin' short of dyin', Half as lonesome as the sound, On the sleepin' city sidewalks: Sunday mornin' comin' down. In the park I saw a daddy, With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin'. And I stopped beside a Sunday school, And listened to the song they were singin'. Then I headed back for home, And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'. And it echoed through the canyons, Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday. Do do do do do do do do, Do do do do do do do, Do do do do do do do do, Do do do do do do do
Johnny Cash released this song live when Kris was a struggling song writer, the producers told Johnny to sing ‘ wishing lord that I was home ‘but Johnny blurted out ‘wishing i was stoned ‘and Kris was forever grateful.
All time fav rendition of this song. All time. If you like it also check out Dave Matthews/EmmyLou Harris performing Long Black Veil. I think they sang it for a Cash tribute (perhaps this one but don’t remember). But it’s wonderful as well
