That happened to me. What happened if I can’t change the housing, just yet. Can I still drive it? If so for how long?

Thanks for the question, it did not seem to affect things. We had to continue to drive the car until the new part came in. You are still getting flow, it's just not draining down when removed so it makes a bit of a mess.
good luck on your Mercedes project.
      Cheers!

I had one of these cars and it always annoyed me that Mann did not include the crush washer with the oil filter.
My BMW filters always came with a crush washer.

Thanks for the comments Dave, we don't understand why they are included with some oil filters and not with others. The good news is that they are cheap and easy to get.
Since we buy from FCPEuro, we just send back the old ones and get new ones from free.
      Cheers!

Does it take 5w40 or 5w30? Dealership said 5w30. Thoughts?

You know why that's broken right? Because of that perfect spot to place a maintenance item in the engine compartment. Wonder who was that joker who designed that? I bet ya anything he or she has never ever worked on a car, not to mention changing engine oil!!!! At least in my 745i, the filter and drain plug were on the bottom so you don't drip oil all over the engine......

Sometimes the Germans get the engineering right and other times they completely miss the mark. It seems like the pervious shop must have started it crooked and then just kept cranking it down and snapped the tip off. Then they just leave and don't even mention it to the owner, gotta love it.
Thanks again for the comments, Cheers!

that's not problem of the design, its problem of the mechanic who overtighten it. But to be honest this parts is cheap...

@@user-kr8tp3ko8z You are probably right, these guys go crazy with tightening things.
The OEM part is only about $45 so it doesn't break the bank. It was just frustrating when you have to stop in the middle of the oil change to go get a replacement part.
      Cheers!
