    Did anyone have DNS not work in the lab? I can get to the website VIA IP. But DNS isn't working. I tried turning on and off the service and tried from fresh lab. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue. A Record is present. Update: seems to be a bug.

    Hi Keith, I have just started watching your videos, as I am on my Notice period currently holding no offer in hand.... I have just practiced a lab which you are showing in above video. Keith I have customized this LAB and I have not configured it via VTP. I have used static VLAN config.
    this works well with that....Kindly post some videos on VRRP and HSRP scenario.

    Thank you Keith for doing this. Those little tips/motivation bytes in between make your content even more unique and personal. Please don't stop doing it, ever:)
    I have a question here - If I configure the ip helper-address under the int Gig0/0 as opposed to inside the subinterfaces individually, shouldn't it work since it should apply to all the subinterfaces under the main interface? - It didn't work for me though. Your thoughts?

    • @KeithBarker
      @KeithBarker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the question Anitha Soundararajan. Only the interfaces with IP addresses on them, including each of the sub-interfaces, can be a DHCP helper (if configured). In that case, just ip helper on a parent interface, would not enabled that feature on the sub interfaces. Great question!

    Hi Keith. Thanks for your awsome Videos.
    I have one problem though. I cant find the right playlist. I am not in the "Cisco CCNA 200-301 | 175+ vid Playlist" and up to this Lab (video 12 in the playlist) ther was no subnetting mentioned, no DHCP, DNS... configuration, and also no ROAS... I also checked the "sloth" playlist form the video description but then I also get to this one.
    Is it possible that there is an error with the order of the videos in the playlist?

    • @KeithBarker
      @KeithBarker  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for the question @DaiBataieFrate.
      Here is a playlist, just for subnetting:
      ogit.online/subnet
      For other content from me here on TH-cam, one strategy may be to:
      Go to my channel
      Use the search, within my channel
      Search for the keywords of the topic you are looking for
      For example, that search using "DHCP" results in this:
      www.youtube.com/@KeithBarker/search?query=dhcp
      This shows DHCP related content from me regarding:
      DHCP
      DHCP Snooping
      DHCP Relay
      and more
      Happy studies!

    Why the two connections between the switches? I left only one and it worked! thank u!!

    • @KeithBarker
      @KeithBarker  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for the question @FaberLSH.
      With trunking, you can use a single connection, but won't have any fault tolerance if a single interface or cable or connector fails.
      With EtherChannel, we are logically treating the multiple connections as one logical connection, and when using 2 or more interfaces in the EtherChannel bundle, it provides its own fault tolerance as well to avoid a single point of failure.

    Hello Keith! First of all wonderful channel, I really appreciate the content that you produce and inspires me everyday to study and work on things that I love to do. It is very motivational and eye-opening to building good habits and having a good attitude overall.
    I have one question about SVIs vs router on a stick.
    Reading online, I see that both help us communicate between different vlans, the difference being that SVIs are used on a Layer 3 switch and you would use a Router on a stick with, well a router. Both enable Layer 3 communication but, when should you use a SVI and, when should you use a router? Anyone looking through the comments can answer, I'm just curious on what the difference is because at first I tried to create SVIs on the router on this lab and could not get it to work, looking online I saw it was only for L3 Switches. Thank you!

    • @KeithBarker
      @KeithBarker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the question Jacob. If a multi-layer switch is available, use SVIs. If only layer 2 switches exist, then as a last ditch effort, router on a stick could be used. I have videos on both in the master playlist ogit.online/sloth
      Happy studies!

That is to measure twice and cut once. Hi Keith, If you connect two layer 3 switches to run etherchannel. Can you run them as trunks in between to carry multiple vlan traffic? I believe this is only between layer 2. Would you only configure on layer 2 vlans

    • @KeithBarker
      @KeithBarker  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the question Melvin. Multilayer switches have the ability to run L2 and L3 Etherchannel. So etherchannel at layer 2 could represent a single VLAN, or at layer 2 could be trunking to support multiple VLANs.

    What is the thing dhcp look for when it receives the pakcet. Does it assign address based on what vlan is coming from ?

      Yes, that's correct.

      Short answer, yes.
      For a bit long (not too detailed though) answer, read on - consider this topology, DHCP client -- DHCP Relay Agent -- DHCP server (client and server in different subnets). Now the client would send DHCP discover (source IP as 0.0.0.0) broadcast.
      It will reach the relay agent, which substitutes source IP which was 0.0.0.0 (this is not the 'yiaddr' or 'Your IP address' field which DHCP server uses to place the offered IP) as its own IP (so that DHCP server can use this to unicast to relay agent).
      In addition, the relay agent also fills in 'giaddr' (gateway IP) as the interface IP on which it received the DHCP discover (say, gig1 with IP as 192.168.1.2) from client.
      DHCP server uses this Gateway IP address to determine the VLAN from which DHCP discover was received and then offer an IP from that pool. HTH.

      Hello everyone. What I can't understand is how can dhcp server decide what ip assign based on vlan when is Port is not a trunk port and in dchp configuration there is no reference to vlan. Thanks for any answer

      @@manderlini DHCP server offers an IP in the same pool as the 'giaddr' that DHCP relay agent fills in (this is the interface IP on which it receives DHCP discover broadcast from client) and unicasts the DHCP discover packet to server. Does this make sense?

    I am currently in Germany. I am doing a CCNA boot camp in the German language. So I have to learn CISCO concepts and german IT-specific language at the same time. Your videos are being extremely helpful. I like to way you explain, the visuals you use, and your enthusiasm while teaching. ✓
