    Keith, I love this idea. In some of your videos on cbt nuggets you have us blow away the config and recreate them in different way to try different techniques out. Will wiping the config remove the vrf as well or is there a way to make these management consoles persist between configuration wipes?

    • @KeithBarker
      @KeithBarker  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you for the question Bryan Hutchins. In a word, yes. If we erase the startup-config, then reload, the entire config will be toast.
      One solution would be to create a basic config, with the VRFs and IPs (int he VRF) in place, save it, and then copy the startup configuration file to a different name such as start.txt, then you could copy the start.txt to the startup config, reload the router, and it would come up with just the config you need for the mgmt.
      Happy studies, and thanks for the insightful question Bryan.

I have one of those giant clear tubs and it's full of 1 gallon ziplock bags with USB (types separated), power cords, display cables, random connections I never use, mice, webcams. I feel like I could start an eBay store straight from that box and stay afloat for a while LOL

    Hi Keith, if I'm studying the CCNA 200-301, is setting up a network topology like yours sufficient enough to learn everything I'd need to for the exam? Great video. Thanks.

    • @KeithBarker
      @KeithBarker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, absolutely. All you need is either PT software (free from Cisco) or a few routers and switches. At a minimum 3 routing devices, and 2 switching devices.

    What ? I’m confuse. How many routers and switches do I need in order to set one up for a home lab? Just so I can practice getting better CCNA lab.

    • @KelvinTran
      @KelvinTran 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't **NEED** to set a home lab up to complete your CCNA, it would be perfectly adequate to use Packet Tracer or other virtual solutions. With that being said, there's some aspects of higher level certifications that you need equipment to lab, and there's a certain novelty aspect to physical gear. In that sense, you can get as many as you think that your particular design will need to be effectively accommodated.
      Virtual gear is actually preferred to physical gear when it's possible because of its scalability...if I want to add an extra router to serve as a BGP route reflector in a CCIE lab, it's much easier for me to drag out a new router in CML, GNS3, or EVE-NG compared to spending $100 to wait 2 days while a UPS machine throws around my router like a game of hot potato.

    • @vsonic86
      @vsonic86 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kelvin Tran hi kelvin, thank you for your response. Do you think it possible to pass CCNA exam by just watching CCNA course videos and do the lab but ignore reading the book?

    • @KelvinTran
      @KelvinTran 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@vsonic86 You can pass the CCNA if you learn the content. However you do that is up to you.

      That is always fun to do a protocol "cross vendor". Way to go!

    • @KelvinTran
      @KelvinTran 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nice job, dude! Juniper's OSPF syntax is fun! I actually quite like their show ospf database command, especially the show ospf database [LSA type] (e.g. netsummary, external, etc.) commands. I like that unlike IOS, it doesn't choke you with the details of the LSAs if you decide that you want to filter by LSA type...
      Now, their BGP syntax can be shown the door by a horse...

    Keith, I'm a big fan and a CBT student. I have (3)1941 routers in my home lab and your vrf method is working great on all of them. However on my (3) 3750 switches I'm having some difficulty. They are running IOS 15 and it spits out % Enable CEF globally before configuring VRF on any interface. The sub options are distributed, line card, load-sharing, optimize, and traffic-statistics. Which should I choose? I've googled high and low and can't figure it out to get vrf working on my lab switches. Thank you sir!
