I only wish the quizzes were after each section and not all at the bottom so I could see how well I was remembering everything. I also wish you had CCNP study info listed, I know a lot of what you already have taught here could be moved into that course as well, minus the basics. Keep on doing what you are doing, it's great! Thanks again.
For other people that are wondering why the interfaces that are trunked are not showing up while doing "show VLAN brief". "show VLAN brief" only shows ports that are access-ports. So if access mode hasn't been turned on, it will not appear in the list of ports. Great videos Keith. Thanks for creating them and the Labs.
Once again, a great, challenging and entertaining lab. I got further clarification on switches and VLANS. I feel like I was slightly mislead by the instructor. 🤣🤣 I won't spoil it for any new comers taking on this lab.

Excellent stuff. I didn’t know the Vlan access/trunk commands but was otherwise able to get this working by putting all the active switch ports onto VLAN 10. I then switched the various trunking ports back to trunk mode via the config. Was really useful to learn these commands after watching the full video and re-do it correctly in CLI. I learned a lot, thank you.
Thank you for doing this Keith. I've always had some friction when it comes to lab and I've started to lab with your PT videos and they are super helpful. Please keep them coming.
Great series! But I have a newbie question at 11:37 : I was wondering why we don't set up the interface Fa0/2 to VLAN 10 too, and also why it doesn't show up in the VLAN brief ? Are the interfaces between two switches special ?
Hi Keith, I'm taking a CCNA course and I'm following your videos along as well. I have watched this video on VLAN and practiced but I'm confused with something I have noticed. My scenario is: I have noticed on SW1 we created a VLAN 10 on port Fa 0/1 but not on port Fa 0/2, on SW3 we created a VLAN 10 on port Fa 0/2 but not on port Fa 0/1, on SW2 we created a VLAN 10 but did not assign any ports. My question is: Why did we not create the VLAN 10 on the other ports that are connecting the devices and why did we not assign any ports on SW2 to VLAN 10 yet the Laptop was able to ping the server?? Each class has a fixed range of private ip address and few reserved address ranges. Anything other than private and reserved is a public ip. Please refer to RFC 1918 for more info.
Hi. I was interested on understanding why, without making any config on the lab, just fresh open, the first time you turn on the laptop it gets a link-local IP address because of a failed DHCP attempt but if you turn off the laptop and turn on again it never gets an IP. And more interested on understanding why with a fresh opened lab, no changes, I power on the laptop and then I do a power cycle devices (Alt+S), then the laptop gets IP from the DHCP server and laptop is able to reach server, though laptop is supposed to be on VLAN 1, server on VLAN 10 and SW1, SW2 have no VLAN10. On this stage, I can reboot the laptop and always gets the IP though it takes one or two minutes to obtain it, sometimes after showing a link-local IP address before obtaining the IP from DHCP. Thanks.
I found why. When the lab is fresh opened SW1 Fa 0/1 (ap/laptop link) is in VLAN 1 and SW3 Fa 0/2 (server link) is in VLAN 10 and they can't reach each other. But when I power cycle the devices SW3 loses VLAN configuration on Fa 0/2 so both laptop and server are on VLAN 1.
I tried same topology but couldn't reach server IP from laptop. In my topology, connection to AP isn't up either(it is showing in red color). I checked and compared configs of all 3 switches with yours and found that in my case in sw-1 and sw-3 additional configs are coming for gigaEthernet 0/2(sw3) and 0/1(sw-1). I found that when I do any config for fastEthernet 0/1 or 0/2, same configs are being copied on gigaEthernet as well. Could this be the reason for AP not able to reach server/switches? If not, what else should I check? Please someone help!!

Great Lab! I got mine to work but i did a running config on all the switches and noticed only SW3 had vlan 10. I turned it into a vtp server and turned SW1 and SW2 to vtp Mode client. Vlan 10 showed up in the database but had to still configure access port for vlan 10 on the switches. Overall it worked at the end but i want to know if they way i troubleshooted this would of cause other issues in a real environment?
Thank you for the question Converge World. On a VTP client, you can not locally (at the CLI on that switch) create or delete VLANs. The client can only update or delete VLANs from it syncing with the VTP information from a switch acting as a VTP server. Hope that helps.
I have to guess that the file is no longer available to download. Still appreciate the information. I'll try to just recreate the example in Cisco packet tracer to work on.
I completed this but there are no entries on SW2 MAC Address table ? Why would this be the case? SW1 also does not show the MAC Address of the Laptop, Why is this ?
Thank you Jakezxz1 for working on that lab! Hands on practice is one of the best ways to build your skills, and get better. Thank you! Another fun way of resolving missing vlans is setting the switches with missing vlan as vtp clients and the one with vlan 10 as server. They were all in the same vtp domain.
Hey Keith, i would like to know what ver of Packet Tracer are you using for these labs ? My Packet Tracer isn't supporting your files and would like to know if i can get the version you are using. Thank you !!!
Thank you for the question D D. At the start it was 7.1 I think, then I went to 7.3. The newer versions are free from netacad.com, and are backwards compatible, so if you have the latest free version, it should be able to open up all PT project files.
@@KeithBarker hey Keith; you are the best instructor i have ever come across. Good day man and pls keep that enthusiasm on your video; it’s what makes you unique.
everything was fine till creating VLAN 10 at SW 2. It is created however my pinging is not working, I thought about manually assigning port 1 to VLAN 10 and it says VLAN mismatch. Can someone please tell me what is going on?
Thank you for the question Saifssj. The links between SW1 - SW2 - SW3 are trunks (in the downloaded lab I provided). If you assign one of those trunk ports as an access port in VLAN 10, instead of a trunk, that is what would cause an error. Thank you for doing the lab. Take a few minutes, download the lab again, and go through it step by step in the video, and let me know how you did. Happy studies.
Thank you Keith great an informative lab. Similar to some people I cannot see trunking on any of the switches so I just setup the ports of each switch to VLAN 10, another problem is the password of the Wifi AP was set to TKIP instead of AES. One more problem I faced and still facing is that the server DHCP pool handing out IP addresses starting from 10.67.83.32 ! (which happens to be within its own address .. ). If I try to create another serverPool1 and assign start of IP address to 10.67.83.40, it would let me, but it won't allow me to remove the original serverPool for some reason. But hey, solving problems is half the fun (& learning)! FYI, I'm using the latest PT 7.3.0. THANKS AGAIN.
Where do I start with these commands? It seems you have a list of commands that are just rattling around in your head, however, where would I go for those and what they do?
Thank you for the question Josiah Abernathy. If you are at the beginning of your CCNA studies, you may want to hold off on the labs until you have gone through some of the CLI commands in the book or video series you are studying. These would include: enable configure terminal and configuration of interfaces and routing protocols. Just take one step at a time, as you come across these commands in your study material, and use PT for free to practice them.
Thank you for the question. The DCE side of the connection traditionally will provide the clocking signals used on the connection. The DTE will use those provided clocking signals.
That was fun! One question: At one point I had only vlan 10 allowed on the switches (excluding vlan 1), and the ping didn't work. Why is that? If the native vlan is vlan 1, doesn't it get access to all communication, so to speak?
Thank you for the question voiceofreason314. Not sure about that situation, but if you have something like that again, you can save a copy of the PT file (during the situation), and attach it in a DM to me on Discord and I would be happy to take a look.
Hey Keith. I had worked on this for a long while and tried to problem solve this but I keep getting a native vlan mismatch on Switch 2. I also cannot get a successful ping. How do I fix? Thanks.
I got it! I persevered and resolved this! Thanks again Keith. If you read this (since you have a million posts to read), I am really getting to enjoy this after nearly 3 months of studying for the CCNA!!

These would include:
enable
configure terminal
and configuration of interfaces and routing protocols.
Just take one step at a time, as you come across these commands in your study material, and use PT for free to practice them.
Off subject but, what's the difference between serial DCE and serial DTE links?
Thank you for the question. The DCE side of the connection traditionally will provide the clocking signals used on the connection. The DTE will use those provided clocking signals.
Did it. Thank you sir. ❤
Thank you for working on that lab! Hands on practice is one of the best ways to build your skills, and get better. Thank you!
YOU are the best ever :)
Thank you Fawaz Al-Motairi
I have difficulties opening the file ,it’s telling my packet tracer isn’t compatible with it,please what do I do?
Thank you for the question fasiku deji. You will want Packet Tracer 7.3 or higher. Free from Netacad.com
@@KeithBarker And this is when I discovered Packet Tracer doesn't contain a way to check itself for updates. I should have upgraded ages ago. Thanks!
Couldn't open the .pkt file . Any solution?
Thank you for the question Sonali Biswal. That normally is due to the version. I used version 7.3 of Packet Tracer, so you would want that version or newer to open the PT files I provided at thekeithbarker.com
Happy studies.
Keith mate, it would be nice for you to link your website
Thank you for the suggestion, will make a better effort going forward.
@@KeithBarker cheers, loving the content
Good stuff!!
Thanks!
Hi Keith, what's the Packet Tracer version you are using? I tried opening your lab with 7.2.2 and 6.2 but none work. Thanks in advance!
Thank you for the question Alex1990CV. I used 7.3 from Netacad.com

You know how to make complex topics simple
Plus the packet tracer output, phenomenal
What's the website URL for the labs please someone?
