Hey Keith, so grateful for this vid - was having the same problem and it was absolutely doin' my head in 😂.
This seems be the same case for an integrated unit, like say the 829.
I'll be duplicating this lab with a Cisco 897VA in my physical lab kit, so will be interesting to see if it's the same for the real stuff too 😋.

Happy birthday 🎊 to the OGIT. I notice that in a real router with EtherSwitch Module, you can also use the regular VLAN command even if the contextual help is talking about ISL... I suppose that packet tracert support only the VLAN DATABASE command.

Hi Keith, you're doing amazing stuff for beginners ! Thank you so much for that. Would you consider to explain why we should use logical SVI's in stead of psyhical layer 3 interfaces on a switch (with no switchport command) or any loopback interface which is logical too ?

Hi Keith. Thanks, for the wonderful videos. Can you please make a packet tracer video on Cisco.WLC configuration by using wlc 4404 controller. Actually, I am using mentioned controller in my campus network, with with bunch of 3502 aps. My clients drops the wifi for 5 seconds and than it comes back automatically. Is there any wlc configuration issues?
4404 WLC with 3504 APs, man those are ancient devices! Anyway, I'd start isolating the issue if it is SSID-specific, location-specific (any particular meeting room/floor, etc.), client-specific (identify the device type/client wireless adapter) and whether the client drops off of wireless or loses L3 connectivity, etc. Then capture the client debugs (you can keep the debugs running for a test client and wait for the issue to appear) on WLC to see what's going on.
"vlan database" command on the router is applicable only on Packet tracer with switch module in the router or is this something we can use in actual enterprise network using putty ???
Thanks you for the content. Although informational, I am still confused about a few things. They are as follows:
1- Why would I put a switch module on a router, if, as you said, the idea is for a router to be involved on a vlan when I could use a multilayer switch with routing?
2- Going back to another video and lab; If I have a multilayer switch, connected to a router, with interface vlans on them, configured as default gateways, then how does one get the MLS to get traffic to the router of the interface in which it is connected? ( I have been wondering about this one for a bit)

IOS is the operating system that can run natively on a Cisco router. IOU is IOS on Unix, that was designed to run in an emulated environment.

PC2 would use it's default gateway. That router (or multi-layer switch) would forward based on its routing table. For all the L2 connections between MLS2 and the other switches, STP would control which literal ports are used to forward. The costs for STP, and who the root is for VLAN 10, would be used by STP to determine the physical ports that actually forward the frames.

Arijit Das yes, I a real work you can install a switch module. For example this is my scenario: I have a Cisco 2901 router with ADSL Interface for Internet, 02 GigabitEthernet interfaces, but I was needed additional interfaces with PoE for Access Point and IP Phones, so instead of buy a real PoE Switch that will take space and consume more power, I have just purchased a PoE EtherSwitch module and plug-in inside the Cisco 2901 and voilà, job done.

Hmm I did this on real hardware with the same 4 port fast ethernet wic in my 1841 but my vlan 30 is up but down at layer 2.....I have to lab this again...
Well i figured out my issue as I didnt realize the port fast ethernet 0/0/0 is read from right to left on the wic card... But now when I create the vlan on the 1841 from vlan database and do a show vlans it says the vlan does not exist and I get vlan mismatch errors between vlan 1 on my router and vlan 30 on my switch...
I put the port's on the switch port module into vlann 30 but when I issue show Interfaces trunk I don't see the port's in vlan 30...
Correction.... I found the vlan on my router, I had to use show vlan-switch command..
I fixed all the issues... I wasn't changing the native vlan to 30 on all of my devices and setup eigrp.

Thank you for the question Yassen Af. Unless the router has a switchport module, (and is not a multi-layer switch), it would not support an SVI (switched virtual interface).

A device that primarily makes forwarding decisions based on Ethernet layer 2 addresses, is a switch.
A device that primarily makes forwarding decisions based on IP layer 3 address is a router.
A device the can do both is commonly referred to as a multi-layer switch.
