Brent wrote the book on bad ass country playing! I can remember in the 90's his playing being on every song in the top 10. This went on for years. One of my heroes for sure!
You're too funny...Mason will play entire songs and circles around 99% of the guitarists in the world today. Top of the A List in Nashville session players.
That B-Bender is a Joe Glazer bender. I has an arm that is attached to the neck plate. When the arm is pulled upwards (guitar neck downwards) the B string is raised up to a whole step higher in pitch.
Really? So are you the top guitarist in Nashville? Are you on almost every record that was put out since the 90's? Are you a top recording artist? Do you pack every room you go into to play? Brent Mason is not only on constant call in Nashville, but he also is on constant call in New York and LA. And you are?
Had the pleasure of meeting Brent in '89 I think it was when he played in a union Hall with a chap named Terry Wedding? I think his name was. If I remember it was in either Boonville Indiana or Evansville. They were awesome. Got his autograph. I think he was only about 18-19 at the time.
In response to your comment on the Brent Mason video demo-ing the Xotic boosters, the reason he has a funny looking bridge saddle is probably because he has a B-bender installed.
Has he got a B-Bender on there? it looks like it when he does a high bend, but his strap appears to be attached to the neckplate and not the front strap button
Marvin, He does have at least two CD's out. One thing to watch out for is there are two Brent Masons , the guitar God we love & a singer songwriter of the same name but not the same as this ax smokin' Brent.
i think its sort of like a g bender in the way that its mounted on the back, but its controlling the b string. he might have it set that way because he plays pretty high up and it would be an awkward bend if he had the conventional b bender.
I wonder if Brent finds it harder to get inspired by others since he's such an awesome guitar player. It's not just the guitar. He can make even a piece of junk guitar sound awesome! 😁
He plays simple single melody lines all the time. Listen to the stuff he does with George Strait, Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn, Zac Brown Band, Toby Keith, Blake Shelton, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, or any of the other superstars who pay him big money to come up with the giant guitar hooks on their biggest hits. In his videos, he shows how to play the more difficult stuff, because that's what people want to learn.
I wonder what his take is on the Roland VG-99 guitar processing unit.I like it.I've played with probably every pedal and processor, and it is very effect-ive,no pun intended. It is a bit of a learning curve to really get into it,and you can't play just any guitar thru it until you install a special pick up.Thanks XoticGuitars for the cool upload!
@Fishies125 But wouldnt the amp mic pick up the single coil buzz? The amp is where the buzz is heard from so it looks it would be magnified with a mic. Just wondering. Thanks for responding.
great demo! great player, can't say enough bout the EP.Booster,it's like adding another spk,,&12 watts to your amp..traded away my tube screamer, just don't use it,seem to get the warmth from my amp and ep.blend,,and yes harp blowers,it's a great enhancer to your mic, turned on just a pinch,,punch-U-ation!
+Joe Schmoe i have no idea who brent mason is, but i bet his strings were like less than 20 bucks and probably his picks are probably the same as everybody else. getting to the point. it would be a really rare thing if some guitar dude was playing high end boutique-y gear before he got famous. gigging musicians get dick for pay and most of them wouldn't or couldn't blow 10 grand on a rig. it's the doofuses and speculators and gear nerds that come later that drive the prices up for cheap and common gear. the soviet green big muffs were the cheapest muffs in the 90s. like 50 bucks new, compared to the 200 or whatever that vintage ram's heads or pi or whatever were going for. so every regular dude who wanted a big muff, got the green one. a few years later, nobody would give you 20 bucks for your used one. 10 or more years pass and those dudes from the black whites show up with the old green ones. and now you'd be lucky to find one in good mechanical condition for less than 300. stupid.
It' basically a 1968 Telecaster pewter grey finish, i think that's not the original finish though.. he put a seymour duncan hot stack (i think) in the middle position which he can blend in and out with the 3rd poti, the one between the regular volume and tone poti. Also, he put a regular Seymour duncan mini humbucker in the neck. That's as far as i know😊
@Fishies125 Thats what I would like to know how do to if you can tell me. I have had that problem before in a studio. It was so bad we couldnt even use it. When the guitar and buzz are both recorded in the same mic, how can you seperate them? Thanks.
TB-I can be thick sometimes, and I didn't get your post until I went back and re-read my original. Yeah, it always slays me when people who can't touch a player's busted strings tries to criticize someone that is out there doing it.
Hi ! Which Duncan pickup (or anything not too hard to find because I don't live in the US and around 100 $) would you recommend to get his tone in the bridge ? Thank you telecaster dudes !
How does the sound quality change during the video? There are times when hes not playing that I can hear like a single coil buzz, but when he starts playing it goes away. How is that done? Thanks for any info.
Great pedals great playing but that buzz when your not muting the strings is not great, maybe a great addition would be a ISP Decimator G string that would get rid of the noise
Man when you're playing and you need your amp to go to 11, but your playing all this fast stuff.....hit the pedal that takes you to 11 :-P....ha ha...Brent's THE man!
The conclusion is... When you need of clean and crunch boosters for your amp, both RC Booster and EP Booster are complementaries. OMG, give me more money. ha ha.
Why would anybody who plays guitar in public for money be embarrassed to show up to the gig with some basic pedals? I think if you used that stuff with bad taste or it sounded bad then it would be one thing but he always uses pedals to great effect!
i could listen to brent play all day, even when he's just noodling he's very inspiring!!
Brent wrote the book on bad ass country playing! I can remember in the 90's his playing being on every song in the top 10. This went on for years. One of my heroes for sure!
Brent Mason, IMO, is one of the best guitarists on the planet!
that isn't an opinion it's a fact .
Without a doubt , non-negotiable FACT lol 😆
I have that exact same EP booster and knowing Brent uses it makes me so excited.
putting guitar down... crawling in to bed... crying self to sleep
I feel you bro!
what the hell, all i do is shit after see this video.
You're too funny...Mason will play entire songs and circles around 99% of the guitarists in the world today. Top of the A List in Nashville session players.
nicehairdan Brent mason is the master
Brent is one hell of a guitar player. Hands down one of the best players around.
Brent is such a great player and always seems so humble . Rippin' with a thumb pick !
It is INSANE how good Brent Mason is on the guitar
Damn! This is one GREAT guitar player!
Chill guy for such a guitar monster. How does he play that fast fingerstyle... I’ll never know.
That B-Bender is a Joe Glazer bender. I has an arm that is attached to the neck plate. When the arm is pulled upwards (guitar neck downwards) the B string is raised up to a whole step higher in pitch.
Yea.....no more to say. Brent is AWESOME !!
This guy is so cool..awesome musician!
such a great musician
Timbre maravilhoso, Brent mason é demais.
Really? So are you the top guitarist in Nashville? Are you on almost every record that was put out since the 90's? Are you a top recording artist? Do you pack every room you go into to play? Brent Mason is not only on constant call in Nashville, but he also is on constant call in New York and LA.

He’s unreal. Great tone is from the hands. That dude could play a cheap squire and it would sound amazing.
THE only thing that I can do as effortless as this guy plays... is eat a twinkie
I'm calling BS. There's no way you can eat a twinkie this well.
Hear that signal roaring back after the compressors done. Whew! That things earning its keep.
Damn my ass gettin old: I saw the title read Brent Mason with a booster and Ry Cooder so I immediately clicked lol
He does
Phenomenal player!
Pretty sweet.
what a player!
I wished he would make an album with just him playing instrumentals.
Marvin, He does have at least two CD's out. One thing to watch out for is there are two Brent Masons , the guitar God we love & a singer songwriter of the same name but not the same as this ax smokin' Brent.
Is there a tuition video for the riff at 1:10?
Love this pedal by itself . For slapback ,it pairs well with the new Maxon ad999.
Its a good circuit.
theres just some guys that im just like, 'stop it already! you dont need to practice anymore!' lol
Great playing.
Brent is a great player, needless to say, but, seems like a cool guy, too.
Dear Brent,
Thanks for the Bandmaster settings.
i think its sort of like a g bender in the way that its mounted on the back, but its controlling the b string. he might have it set that way because he plays pretty high up and it would be an awkward bend if he had the conventional b bender.
The amp that Brent is using is a BF BandMaster... You can freeze the vid in the beginning and see it.. I have a late 63 BF BandMaster... great amps!
I wonder if Brent finds it harder to get inspired by others since he's such an awesome guitar player. It's not just the guitar. He can make even a piece of junk guitar sound awesome! 😁
Good view of the board at 2:26. Nice.
great guitarist!
Brent Rules one of best!!!
It's the tip of the mountain for speed and dexterity. Can't be easy holding your balance for very long, up there.
Brent can make anything sound good hahah
If Hank Garland and Jerry Reed had a kid it would be Brent Mason.he is the coolest
God damn I need to pick my jaw off of the floor. That’s some wicked skill.
Im a complete metal head, who knew that a clean tone could be so bad ass.
Most everybody else.
Badass!
@Fishies125 But wouldnt the amp mic pick up the single coil buzz? The amp is where the buzz is heard from so it looks it would be magnified with a mic. Just wondering. Thanks for responding.
Brent for PRESIDENT !
great demo! great player, can't say enough bout the EP.Booster,it's like adding another spk,,&12 watts to your amp..traded away my tube screamer, just don't use it,seem to get the warmth from my amp and ep.blend,,and yes harp blowers,it's a great enhancer to your mic, turned on just a pinch,,punch-U-ation!
why is there so little brent mason material on youtube?
@ 2:10, he laughs at the most subtle of mistakes.. C'mon man that was nothing!
Great pickin..!
Brent mason uses a $50 tremolo. I had no idea
10 or more years pass and those dudes from the black whites show up with the old green ones. and now you'd be lucky to find one in good mechanical condition for less than 300. stupid.
biergutt good point. But as for his picks, he uses a thumb pick and uses all his fingers to rip through those tawngy country licks.
I can't identify it. Which one is it?
Can anyone ID that guitar and what's been done to it? I absolutely love everything about it.
That's as far as i know😊
Ahhhh... and there’s that B-bender.
Bridge pickup is a Seymour Duncan "Vintage Stack".
YES!!!! i just heard BRENT MASON make a small mistake......God is REAL lolol
@poplex222 Pretty sure he's still with them. That is his original Fender that the Valley Arts was modeled after.
Yeah, it always slays me when people who can't touch a player's busted strings tries to criticize someone that is out there doing it.
it's a lick from one of his songs called Hot Wired...
Love this geezer!
Can anyone tell me what the largest unit he's using is? Looks like some multi effects unit
Can anyone tell what the black pedal between the volume pedal and the Boss compressor is?
+OldManAP It's EWS Fuzzy Drive.
Hi ! Which Duncan pickup (or anything not too hard to find because I don't live in the US and around 100 $) would you recommend to get his tone in the bridge ?
Thank you telecaster dudes !
That pickup is a Duncan 5/2 tele bridge. Stock item.
***** Thank you ! eventually, I bought the Jerry Donahue Duncan pickup and I love it
I'd sell my soul to the devil to play like this. Always been a big fan of James Burton.
Holy crap.
What does EP and RC mean in pedal?
Saqib Saqib ep = echoplex (as in the tape echo effect) and rc = really clean
How does the sound quality change during the video? There are times when hes not playing that I can hear like a single coil buzz, but when he starts playing it goes away. How is that done? Thanks for any info.
*MONSTER* player
C'mon man, save some for the rest of us!
is it no longer a valley arts for brent?
what i would do to play like that.
LOL... in my wildest dreams, I'm not even half that good. Smokin finger work.
Is that ep boost last in the signal chain?
And the tabs are?
Great pedals great playing but that buzz when your not muting the strings is not great, maybe a great addition would be a ISP Decimator G string that would get rid of the noise
that's probably the lighting causing that buzz. lights wreak havoc on a live setup.
What Fender amp is that?
Band Master
Insane playing...... Rig hissing like a cornered cobra, no noise gate?
If I hear that same run one more time...
Man when you're playing and you need your amp to go to 11, but your playing all this fast stuff.....hit the pedal that takes you to 11 :-P....ha ha...Brent's THE man!
Brent... your a monster.
Brent Mason is to Country Rock, what Lukather is to Pop Rock.
RC Booster. Been there, done that. Returned. A TC Spark is zillions of times better.
lol yeah theres alot of badass players who play clean
Just a little bit.
lol
Thats definitely a Line6 unit with a paint job not of the factory. What it is tho cant say...Maybe a DL4?
i like the guitar from what i see it looks like a g bender
is this guitar a g bender?
b bender
GuitarFreakNation Fender BandMaster :D
That guy can pick like nobody's business. The tone sounds kinda muddy, though. No spank or top end.
Is it just me or does Brent look like Gerard Butler with less muscle and glasses on????
The conclusion is... When you need of clean and crunch boosters for your amp, both RC Booster and EP Booster are complementaries. OMG, give me more money. ha ha.
b-b-b-b-b-b-bad!
LOL!!!
Piri pipi pipi piri pipi pipi.
Why would anybody who plays guitar in public for money be embarrassed to show up to the gig with some basic pedals? I think if you used that stuff with bad taste or it sounded bad then it would be one thing but he always uses pedals to great effect!
Awesome playing!
Is it just me or the bridge saddle positioning suggests the guitar isn't intonated?
JESUS FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!
HUH?
too bad he is miced badly, can't pickup the good highs
