You know, I heard Robben Ford play over one of those little Roland Cube transistor practice amps, and guess what? He sounded exactly like Robben Ford. That was the moment I stopped chasing someone else's dream.
Thanks Brian. Brent is my favorite! So everyone knows the major hits Brent played on, but for a little bit off the beaten path check Wade Hayes’ “Old Enough to Know Better” and many songs from The Mavericks’ “What a Crying Shame”, or just turn on a 90s country playlist, and 8 out of the next 10 songs will have Brent on them
Brent is the goat imo….theres been no better country player with so many credits and who continues to work everyday on albums, tracks, no disrespect to Danny gatton or anyone else, theyre legends as well.
I saw him play with The Players in Nashville in 2005 in a little nightclub. Talked gear with him in between sets. I had no idea who he was at the time. It wasn't until some time afterward that I discovered that I was talking to freakin Brent Mason. He was super nice and I'm actually really glad I didn't know who he was because we just had a great conversation - likely would have been different if I was star-struck. Zero ego detected - amazing considering his chops were enough to make you want to quit guitar entirely LOL.
Brent has always been my guitar hero since the 90s. I've always chased after his tone and could never get there. I finally found a stereo widening effect recently that got me really close. Everyone seems to have their own way of finding that tone. I guess the player factors in there as well.
One of the greatest, I've had his signature hot wired pedal fixed in my pedalboard since the start, and today it's still there, and Brent seems an all-around god dude ( same for Brian) greetings from Spain
Nice work, Brian! Brent is an amazing player. The fact that this is in a recording studio and you're hanging with him leads me to believe you're working on something cool with him that we'll see one day...
I built a guitar a few years ago, a Tele /Strat hybrid, and I purchased a second hand pair of Brent Mason Tele pickups, which really sound fantastic. I'm not a country music guy, so this is the first time I have actually seen Mr. Mason, I wouldn't have know him if I tripped over him in a music store. He's gotta be doing something right if he's been a Nashville session player for so long, nice to get his perspective.
Brent is such a monster player. He has done a lot of practicing and studying music and has a huge library of ideas to draw from. Im nowhere near that level lol.
How about a good video explaining and demoing the Brent Mason Hot Wired Pedal and what its good for? Andf how does it stack up to a couple of your other double pedals?
I think one tries too hard to be exactly like their "Guitar Hero" losing their own identity in the process! - A note here or there; "Does it matter?" Be yourself, absorb ideas but evolve your own identity! Brent Mason has his own unique identity for good reason!
Brian @wampler_pedals , @8:49 what is that little riff from? I know I have heard that in a song somewhere and shazam won't find it for nothing. It's a song somewhere, I am sure I have heard that before.
Thanks for the awesome video. The question I have always wondered is "Have you ever played a solo, or any part, just to mess with the road band that is going to have to figure out how to handle it in a live performance?"
I always found that I was 2 different guitar players, depending on how I was feeling at any specific moment. The times that I receive the most compliments is when I play with a little anger and attitude, especially in country chicken pickin'. It took me a long time to realize that.....I can see it in Mr Mason as well.
Dumb question but is the rewired a new version of hot wired? I was going to buy the hot wired but if this one is its replacement .. I may just buy the new one …. The hot wired is killer
Actually, TBH, I would much rather sit down with a pedal designer like Mr. Wampler and ask some questions about tone, gain and what beer makes it all sound better. lol!
One of the world's best guitarists in the country style perhaps, at least in the USA, among the well known guitarists, because he's not "one of the world's best guitarists" in fusion, nor in rock, nor in metal, nor in bossa nova, nor in classical, nor in djent, nor in tango, nor in flamenco, etc. You know what I mean? Great guitarist within his respective style, though.
Bruh Brent Mason really just sat here and gaslit me - i just sunk an hour learning the solo from this vid only to go back to the OG recording and find out it’s actually played differently 🥲
Ohhhh, Peter. 😂 If you *only* knew how many professional and popular guitar players I work with that are dear friends of mine you’d walk that back a bit. Brent, here, is one of the most recorded guitarists in history. And, by the way at, I don’t think there is a contest for “best” guitarist, so folks like Steve Vai, or Buk, Guthrie, Mayer, Paisley etc…. They all are great and have identifiable USP’s and such.
If you do a little research, you will quickly discover that Brent has a catalogue of hit songs that he has played on that is endless. “Best” normally has NOTHING to do with virtuosity. It has to do with a guitarist creating memorable parts that will stand the test of time. Brent has done that. Thank you to Brian for doing this interview with him. I thought it was fantastic.

Thanks, Brian, that was the best TH-cam clip I have seen in years. Loved your ability to get Brent to open up a bit. Two good guys, thanks so much.
The king. 👑
Amazing, thanks for this interview! One of the most sonically recognizable players of the ‘90s through today
Brent is such an incredible guitar player and composer This was great. Thanks for posting

Great solos in those tracks! Allow me to add Martina McBride’s first hit single, “The Time Has Come!”

Brent is a favorite of mine, should be a favorite of everyone! Thanks Brian!!
Humble and awesome.

Great post! Gotta love some Brent Mason! Thanks for the share!

Great interview. Straight forward and to the point of what players are interested in hearing. Thanks 👍

Very insightful, thanks Brian ,this is the only place we get to see great country guitar in Australia.
Grown to love Brent from all my years at woodshed guitar experience. Just awesome down to earth fellow that loves music and his wife :)
Yeah man. Special group of fellas

Awesome interview!

Brent Mason RULES!!!!

Da man!
I spent the 90s playing his licks every other song.
HOLY $#¥T! Amazing playing and brilliant insights!
Great video. Thank you for that. So Brent plays with a thumb pick in combination with the other fingers?
Yes
Hell ya! I can only imagine what a thrill that was :)
Amazing, thank you 🙏
I still feel sum fun when i heard my brothers son, age 8! Playing the whole Kill em all album by Metallica with solo parts included.....
Great player, great guitar!
4:00 "That's good!" You can tell he has a lot of practice saying that to people 🤣🤣🤣

Can we have the 50 minute version now please? :)
Pleeeaaaaassseeee, tell us there is another hour or two to this interview… please!!!
Cool. Next maybe Brent Hinds???
Video ended to quickly for me. I was enjoying it!
Boy, that went by really fast.
The thing I like most about Brent is that he often seems befuddled by his own abilities... 😂
Actually, TBH, I would much rather sit down with a pedal designer like Mr. Wampler and ask some questions about tone, gain and what beer makes it all sound better. lol!

You need to listen to a hell of a lot more guitarist if you think this guy is one of the best…broaden your horizons.
Regardless, he gets the call for session after session and gets paid.
Ohhhh, Peter. 😂

Big bedroom guitarist energy coming out here!
