Woof, never realized how complicated this was. With that said, this tutorial made complete sense; it's complicated, but with patience, is very very doable. Also explains why I didn't have much luck with the pre-mixed stains. Saved me a lot of time and headache! Thank you!

Thank you so much, I am restoring a 60s Lane end table and have to restain the top and want to get as close to the original as possible. I have no idea where to begin but now I feel like I have a starting point now.

This was a great tutorial on matching and just getting the color stain that doesn't come in the premixed cans.

Any idea on how to find a stain that’s purple?

Just did a quick Google search, and dozens of different companies make purple wood stain.

Be aware that every time you test the color, you are taking a small amount from the mix, which will trow off the ratios. So, when you scale up, be sure to test the batch, and tweak as needed.

Good timing here. Trying to dye plywood shelf’s to match cherry hardwood case. Unsuccessful so far.

It's a process, especially with natural woods because they are always darkening as they age.

@@Benham_Design now I’m thinking applying cherry veneer to the plywood. Then at least theoretically the finish with a natural hard wax finish such as Simple Finish or Rubio should be close. Thoughts?

Not knowing all the details of your project I can't say for sure. But if you have the room for the extra veneer thickness, that would solve the color change problem
